I love how she got right up there on stage, no stage fright whatsoever, and she OWNED it! She didn't try to upstage Carol, but she was playing right on her level, equally. She should have been in show business, because that woman had pizazz!

Oh my goodness I’m watching this after listening to the Conan podcast where he interviewed Ms. Burnett and she regaled them with this story. She said Ms. McCann’s family wrote her 5 years ago shortly after she passed and they said they played this at her memorial service. 😭 she lived to 100
    It was so touching 😭😭😭

And the family story is that the lady that asked "Is that Maude?" met Grandma in line for the show and Grandma was mobbed that day - we have pictures - she tried to tell people that she wasn't "Maude", but no on believed her, hence the "I'm beginning to believe it myself." This happened to her a lot back then - finally she shrugged and just started signing autographs!! She was a HUGE Bea Arthur fan, I don't think she ever missed an episode of the Golden Girls, but she looked more like Sophia at the end of her life than Bea Arthur. Thank you to Jricci9 for posting this for us all to be able to see it again!

This lady Terry McCann has it all over every audience member who ever made it up on stage with Carol. I just read the story of her from the lady in the comments and what a wonderful woman she sounded like. God bless her soul. Long live Carol Burnett!

I love how Terry initially denies the resemblance in a tongue-in-cheek way, then decides to just dive right into it... Even though Bea Arthur was still alive at the time, you'd think she was channelling her spirit with the way she said: "I got kissed by the most DARRRRLING little man...!"

I used to watch this show, with my nanny; it was our favorite. We were both a little lonely in our own ways, and always found comfort hanging out with each other. It tickled us both that Carol Burnett called her grandmother, “nanny”, too. Thank you Carol Burnett (and the rest of the cast), for the everlasting memory of hearing my (normally) stoic grandmother howl in laughter.

Reading down the line, its hilarious that Your Grandmother and the "little lady from New York" met in the line while waiting to get in, totaly funny! Mrs. Burnett is a genuine person, I wanted to add that, my older Cousin worked at CBS as an intern after she graduated College in 1977. She worked behind the scenes on several Sitcoms, she said if you were lucky enough to experience the Carol Burnett Show in the audience, then you had a grand ol time!!!

I read on another board from a woman who was in the audience that night, that although Carol and Terry did not know each other, the FIRST lady who asked "Is that lady Maude?" knew Terry and it was a set-up between Terri and the "Lady from New York." This was actually from 1976, not 1979. The segment comes from Season 10, Episode 15, and aired on CBS on January 15, 1977. It's more likely that the episode was taped towards the end of 76. At the time, Maude had started to fall in the ratings, currently in Season 5 of its 6 season run.

THAT was the sheer beauty of the show itself. Despite rehearsals, the success stemmed more from the originality that blossomed on the actual show night, ie. Tim's impromptu changes when he guest starred then signed on to the regular cast and the "interesting" and VERY Funny things that popped up when they bumped up the lights for questions...such as this classic and TOP NOTCH scene with Terry McCann. NOTHING like that was completely scripted then kids. That's the BEAUTY of a TALENTED troupe that can work with the humor among everyday reality and craft it into AMAZINGLY HILARIOUS COMEDY. Much like our modern day people do through Second City. Comic Geniuses have come through there like....Bonnie Hunt for example.

I was too young to know better when it first aired, but in later years I wondered if it was a setup between the Terri and the woman/ her friend who asked the question, (notice how Terri knew where the woman was from?) online sources say that it was a setup, though not all you read is true. Anyway, I figured she was trying to break into show business and used this plan for that. She could sing, seemed funny and as if she may have had good acting skills, so I would sometimes wonder if she made it with her talent.
Sorry to hear of her passing, but it's nice that her family had her for one-hundred years, or close to it. Wow. :)

Respectfully, it was not. I'm not sure how old you are, so I apologize in advance. Back then shows like this had full orchestras. Carol had something like a 17 piece orchestra. They could play just about anything on the spot. If you watch the ending, Carol screws it up because she thought Terry was going to end the song another way. Again, not sure your age, but back then these shows were not as "produced" as shows are now. I have friends who know Carol. I might not change your mind, but it was 100% real.
