The 10 Gayest Cities In America

- What percentage of the American population do you think is gay?
Now when experts ASKED Americans what percentage of Americans are gay, the results were perplexing. The latest poll indicates that we think many many many more of us are gay than actually are gay. Americans estimate that 30% of women are gay and 17% of men are gay.
That’s really high. The actual estimated gay population in America is 4.1%, which is up from 3.5% just 8 years ago.
10. Miami, Florida 4.2% gay
Now, let’s compare Miami to our least gay large metro in America, Birmingham Alabama, which has an estimated 2.6% of adults who identify as LGBT. That’s only a 1.6% difference, which might be a little surprising.
Of course, if you’re going to measure the city with the actual largest gay population, it would be New York City, which has an estimated 272,000 gay residents. But as a percentage of the city’s population, New York City ranks 17th overall.
9. Denver, Colorado 4.6 % gay
In 2016, 63% of youth were comfortable interacting with the gay population. A year later, that number was 53% and now, it’s less than half. The only age group that has a growing acceptance of the gay community are the elderly.
8. Los Angeles, California 4.6% gay
There’s entire websites devoted to the gay lifestyle in LA. Of course, west LA, Hollywood, Brentwood and the surrounding communities are very much gay friendly places. California is one of the main destinations for the gay community in the US.
However, according to polls, a city’s gay-friendly climate isn’t necessarily the main draw for gays. Only 12% of LGBT adults took into consideration how gay friendly a city is when deciding to move there.
7 Salt Lake City, Utah 4.7% gay
Salt Lake City, Utah has two gay city councilors, a lesbian mayor and a pride festival that hosts more than 40,000 participants every year. And Salt Lake also has an LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce, too.
6. Boston, Massachusetts 4.8% gay
If you look at a map, Massachusetts has a high gay population, like several other areas in the New England area. Maine, Vermont and New York all have high gay populations, too. Connecticut, however, remains very traditional. Interesting.
5. Seattle, Washington, 5% gay
Seattle Washington is unsurprisingly one of the gayest cities in the nation. Here, the gay population is 5% and also growing. Seattle passed San Francisco for the most households composed of gay or lesbian couples at 2.6% - and is the only U.S. city with more than 1% of households being lesbian couples.
4. New Orleans, Louisiana 5.1% gay
New Orleans is home to Halloween New Orleans, a three-day festival that’s a major draw for the LGBT community. This is home to the Gay Easter Parade and, of course, Mardi Gras, the over-the-top parade that’s a must-see no matter your sexual orientation.
3. Austin, Texas 5.4% gay
So many gay Americans are moving here that there’s a website called Gay in Austin which features things to do, meetups and advice on where to live.
Austin also boasts the Austin Gay & Lesbian International Film Festival as well as a gay and lesbian chamber of commerce
2. Portland, Oregon 5.5% gay
Portland elected its first gay mayor in 2008. An out bisexual Portlander is Oregon’s governor; an out Portland lesbian is the state’s Speaker of the House. Rainbow flags fly everywhere.
1. San Francisco, California 6.2% gay
It’s probably no surprise that San Francisco ranks as the gayest city in America. Here, 6.2% of residents are gay, and about 1.5% of the total population is in same-sex marriages. San Francisco is a non-discrimination haven. Equality and fairness rule the day here.

The problem with this list is that the gayest area of Los Angeles is West Hollywood which is technically its own city 😂
I know North Hollywood doesn't
It is not its own city. Its LA county. Even bel air our Malibu have to obey by county regulations. Like covid19 shut downs.
Don't Forget San Fernando Valley. Especially ENCINO TARZANA!!!
@@fernandoavila7066 cities and Counties are two different things , politically West Hollywood and The city of Los Angeles are two different cities but are all inside Los Angeles County . Again this is " politically " speaking. Overall it's the same thing
@@fernandoavila7066 Bel Air and Malibu are not unincorporated cities in Los Angeles county like West Hollywood, Beverly Hills or Santa Monica.
Bel Air and Malibu are neighborhoods of Los Angeles and not cities, that’s why they don’t have a city hall!!! Ignorant!!!
Small correction Nick.
That footage about Miami is actually South Beach (which is in Miami Beach) Miami Beach and Miami are two very different places,. Most people confused the two.
I agree. I thought it was south beach, too
How are you doing handsome man❤️
I grew up in Las Vegas, which is a very gay city. The popular kids I high school where the flamboyant gay guys that love glitter and Starbucks. Then I moved to North Carolina and discovered that this wasn't exactly the norm. Lol
Why in the WORLD would you move from a fun place like Vegas to a place like N. Carolina?🤮….do people there ask you what ‘church’ you go to? 🤣🤣

Maybe it's time to subscribe jean 😉
Can't forget some of the smaller cities like Northampton Ma, Provincetown MA at the Cape, and Florida Keys.
SF probably attracts gays from places like the Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming, etc. - where they are frowned upon/shunned/not accepted for who they are.
TheMilpitasguy Dont forget literally the entire south
The Bay Area in general is an attractive destination for LGBT. I myself, moved to the North Bay 5 years ago from Tulare County California and have stayed since. I know other people wanting to leave the more conservative parts of California like Bakersfield and Fresno and move to SF and surrounding cities.
@@totallynotme6720 Southern gays tend to usually end up in South Florida, Atlanta and New Orleans. Those farther North tend to migrate to a Mid Atlantic State. An observation. I've been around.
Nah, that’s just backwards talk. That Old slogan “You’ve come along way Baby”
That’s kinda similar with what happens with many lgbtq Utahns, since most cities and towns are overall pretty intense Mormon, Salt Lake City is very lgbtq and very Democrat. It’s like a little safe blue spot in an ocean of red for us, that’s why I’m planning on moving there as soon as I can. Then once I can I wanna move out of Utah entirely, preferably to a blue state where my vote will matter.
such great coverage. thank you so much 💕
Hii
Maybe do one with towns and smaller cities included, there are many municipalities in those categories that are very high %. Provincetown, MA comes to mind.
How isn’t Atlanta not even mention on this list & not number 1 spot even 🌈🤔
I'm guessing you've never been to San Francisco..
Was never going to be anywhere but San Francisco as number 1 lol

I thought that Atlanta was the southern capitol for gays.

Oh Doooooood! For real? Why even get married if one can't be committed?
Let me tell you something very hilarious when I was young I was a go-go dancer in the cage and I dated this guy he was an ironworker and I do my God was he ever built but we we went with our relationship was really platonic we were buddies that's the kind of relationship we had well anyway they open the club across the street from where I worked and it was called Club Center in Atlanta Georgia that was a transvestite act out of every vowels it was a drag Club drag queen club and I had never seen what a drag queen Club was like and he said excuse me he got up and went to the restroom I thought I said there about 10-15 minutes and I asked the waitress which was it he did she see where the Jill and went that I was suing she said oh yes honey he left was so and so and he left me there in that club was they dragged for a drag queen and I was pretty but after I got over the shock of it I was not in love with him thank God I wasn't because that would have been at the kicker because he was he did he had it all he really did except I just wasn't in love with him that was quite an eye-opener for me especially special at that young age I do believe the lights turned on so I'll be a little bit that's what I started really seeing things through a different lens and I took my rose colored glasses off
But you have to understand and realize I'm the one that kept pushing him to take me over there cuz I was curious to see what was going on and the whole time he was not going to he didn't want to go over there because he knew what it was and I didn't I have to laugh about it I did later

Hi Nick!
I was thinking it would be California?
Some of the other States that were mentioned I didn't think they would be that highly in numbers.
Thanks for sharing! Very interesting!

I'm surprised Washington D.C. isn't on this list. Also I thought Atlanta would be on this list too I heard Atlanta was #2 behind San Francisco.
Washington is a dead zone with no street activity of mention. I'm from there
When I was in DC in the 80s it was chockful of gays - lots of them "married" LOL - lots of bars and clubs too.
Hey Nick! I have a question about your PSA at the end. Is this a personal story? Another thing: All that music you had was on MTV when it first came to my neighborhood when I was in 8th grade; the first thing I saw on MTV was "Little Red Corvette" and it was at a friend's house because we didn't have that channel (I think MTV came on for those who had Cinemax).
I loved this narration
I know that you are only including large cities, over a certain population, however, among small towns, my state takes the cake! If you Wikipedia Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.... there’s an entire paragraph about how gay it is. It’s pretty damn laid back and super fun too. I grew up going there with my family and I still visit there every year. I am straight, but the gay community there keeps everything so nice and the vibes are always so chill and positive. It’s really a nice beach and I know that people don’t normally think of Delaware when someone mentions going to the beach, however Delaware has 14 miles of beautiful, clean beaches and 7 miles of it is an undeveloped & natural protected state park area and the rest is dotted with cute little quaint beach towns with nice boardwalks and shops, restaurants and attractions. It’s super nice. And JUST north of Ocean City, MD (which kinda sucks!).
Cool thanks!!
I’m born and raised in Washington DC and i can say that the gay population is just as large as it is in San Francisco. I’ve been all over the world multiple times lol. Atlanta and DC should’ve definitely been on here.
Seattle?
I agree on DC and Atlanta , yes.

What about the Wilton manor location in Florida?
When did this video "come out"?
I'd like to know exactly where these statistics came from, what questions exactly were asked and what the answer choices were, how the sampling was done, etc. Lists like this are fun, but usually the science is dubious and tends to confirm the bias of whatever group paid for it. From the gay male side of the question, back when I was better looking, my own experience seemed to indicate that the Kinsey percentages of gays and bisexuals were exceeded in reality - which would indicate that, unless there has been a drastic change over the past several decades, the statistics quoted in this video must be based on some very narrow definitions and some very dubious methodology.
Exactly.......how could Kinsey have discovered that the percentage of LGBT in the U.S. were 10% way back in 1948 and now only 4-6%??......Nah! Something’s WAY off.
How are you doing handsome man❤️

I didn't interpret this video as a rigorous scientific report, but rather Nick's casual collection of some random "data," which is to say, I agree.

Wilton manors, Provincetown, Palm springs, Chicago should also be on the list
I just found this channel from your other channel.

Wow I'm from New Orleans, but I've lived in Atlanta. I didn't know that New Orleans would out beat Atlanta when it comes to the South interesting
New Orleans is a "party" town. I've got photos taken during Mardi Gras that I took because I didn't think anybody would believe this was going on in the street and on balconies. LOL. I'm not complaining. It was a blast. I hear Mardi Gras is more "family friendly" now. That's probably why it's dying. That's a shame.
The south is like Frisco bay.....

St. Petersburg, FL used to be primarily a retirement city. Idk what happened.
I can always count on a good laugh during your videos, keep up the good work, especially the singing. I was very surprised by some of these numbers, i couldn't get any action in Italy to save my life. Also the numbers in Boston are suspiciously low, I couldn't even go to the post office without hooking up.I would say the percentage is much higher.
glad you like them! and yes, i think in cities like boston and atlanta there's a lot of people in the closet.
What happened in Denver transpired within the last twenty or thirty years. I started noticing in the 90s that the parade kept getting larger and larger.
It's massive now!
There's something about cold bushy areas, lol
I lived in SLC. People never believe me when I tell them it is super progressive. And the reason is exactly what you said. Gay people from rural Utah, Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada all move there, as well as many artists, musicians and basically anyone who doesn’t fit in where they grew up.
You are right I used to live there Very liberal indeed.
