Hey Guys! Loving the comments! Regarding the lines there are a few ways to rig/de-rig stern to rocks… also you can consider floating lines or sinking.. I chose to use sinking mooring lines as they stretch and there’s no risk of them getting snagged on the propeller when leaving in a hurry 🤣 it was hard to show in the edit but there were rocks not just behind us but close either side so it was important to head out straight and quickly which is why I avoided doing this in the dark. I think floating lines would have been in a right mess, wrapped in and around the rocks, by the time I got back to them with the swell rolling in. Whilst I edit I reflect on all my actions not just as captain but as a father, husband…often cringing 😅 but with regards to the actions took in this video the only thing I would have done differently and would advise (depending on swimming ability) is to have left the lines until later… on the flip side it was good fun! and the lines and second anchor are worth a few hundred pounds and make up part of our safety equipment… if the weather changed for the worse I might have wanted that equipment elsewhere…. The main thing is to make plan and don’t dither! I have seen few skippers (mainly in ports) that freeze when they need to act! We hope you all continue to enjoy the show! See you on the next one 🤙⛵️🦋

Hi Ross, Laura and Boys! Its amazing how the weather can be so overwhelming sometimes and these days, it seems even more bazaar than ever. I thought the rigging you had setup was brilliant and I do agree with you Ross, the only thing that might have been done differently is just waiting and getting the lines at a later time. However, that being said, with that front coming in like it was, you might have had to clear out of that area, and doing that might have had you back tracking a bit to recover your lines. Thankfully Ross, you have a strong work ethic and great perseverance! My empathy is with you Laura when your Anxiety gets the best of you. I completely understand, as I have dealt with Anxiety for quite sometime, and also having had been there for others with their Anxiety as well. I always, always, put my full trust and faith in God in all that I do. He gives me Strength in his Faithfulness, God gives me protection with his Hedge of Protection both above and Below. Ugh…that feeling of worrying about the safety of your loved ones when you know they’re in a possible dangerous situation. You’re so on edge! Though the huge relief when you hear from them or see them is so overwhelming. I have five sons & a husband that serves in the military. I felt every moment with you. These boys! 🤨 Thank you for sharing this intimate moment Laura.❤️
Well done in a difficult situation, Ross. Laura, your concern is completely understandable and well foundedl Glad everyone is ok incuding Holly Blue. Really enjoy your vids. All the best...
Thank you so much guys for sharing how the real life is with all the ups and downs. Life ain't wonderful and glossy all the time. Stay safe in wonderful Greece🇬🇷
I don't see any lapse in analysis, thinking and reacting to the challenge at hand here. It was not clear at first why you let the lines drop into the sea, but realizing that your priority was getting the boat away from the rocks makes total sense. Whenever we go through unplanned challenges, I always try to sit down afterward and analyze what I could have done differently to avoid any unpleasantries. What about a knot or loop that allows quick release of the stern lines from the rocks? Nice episode.
Great episode. Appreciated the reality of the situation. The island hopping and swimming are fun but for a moment i felt really there with sea and the wind and the threat of nature.
Talking to a camera in those worrying times, is like talking to another person for reasurance, uploading those feelings is sharing it with 32000 people is a great move, helping others to decide if this is the life for them.
We wondered often about mooring and attaching lines to the rocks. Something we are not keen on, firstly because we've never done it, and secondly because of the treacherous Mediterranean and how she does just what she like when weather is variable. Glad to see your smiles at the end of an unpleasant situation.🙏🥰🌅⛵ Stay safe, as it only takes one horrid scare to finalize an adventure.🙏🥂
No adventure is complete without a little adversity 👍. Don’t worry about tying to rocks it’s very common around here and usually fairly predictably safe - this really was a total random occurrence and we’ve never experienced anything close to this in our whole 3 years as liveaboards! It’s a magical thing to have your own private pool behind the boat 💙
I’ve been there before. It’s really stressful, but these are great lessons and Ross handled it like a champ. You’re a good captain for your family. Cheers
Oklahoma gal here!! Such a precious family!! I’m 60 Urs old and never seen beautiful blue waters so thank you for sharing!! I pray Gods Angels watch over and protect each of You!! Many blessings to You All!!! 💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞
Don't be scared Laura. You're got Ross by your side. Mr. Cool, Calm and Collective. You know, Johnny on the spot, Jack the Lad and all that. Just give Ross a couple of beers and he's ready to save the day. PS Laura you still look very beautiful when you wake up in the middle of the night, scared and worried.
Yoh those creaking sounds make the hairs stand on my neck!!! I know you like being lose to shore but its often the worst most scary place during large swells
Great Vlog I was tearful with you Laura I would and have reacted the same way as you say they are your loved ones. Mother Nature is very unpredictable 😩🥲 glad you are all safe. Loved the diving love to you all xx
Any rough. Night at anchor that doesn't drag is a good night.Been there done that reset two Anchors each time for four times in the night that dragged in force 11 in Ireland in a reasonably sheltered river bay set up with good mud grip . Worse single handed had to do it manually as no windlass and one an Chor was CQR 15 kg with 40 metre all 8 mm chain and the other was 15 Meyer of 10 mm chain and 50 meter 20 mm rope .I don't think the second anchor really dragged. but I was trying to get closer to island with deep pocket that stopped 5 ft waves and currents of 2 knots plus so best to reset each time . After that slept like. Log for few days too much workout for 6 hours and probably sweated out 10 kg and me a old 60 year old plus on a 30 ft 3 ton 1968 narrow sail boat with long keel not expecting this in September
Bit of advise mate 🙏 Throw the CQR overboard! We had a 25kg CQR which dragged 50% of the time! Our Rocna is much better but personally now I’d go for a spade type anchor without the roll bar as this can clog up when anchoring in mud and weed which turns it into a block rather than a dug in anchor….. I love the beer in Ireland and Irish! all the best Ross
Hello, A great moment in a cruising life but also a scary one when the real life at sea show you that the danger could be everywhere and close to you I understand very well you reaction when you where scary because nobody wants having their relatives involved in a dangerous situation… I hope to see you next in a better place with a smile on your face Bye and take care
Wow thanks for empathising with this - it’s very true - managing anxiety with fybromyalgia is hard enough let alone chucking in sailing and adverse conditions 🥰
@@SailingHollyBlue yes I do sympathise with u Laura. We spoke some time ago about fibromyalgia and how bad u were in uk and sailing the world helped u to improve your fitness but u still get fibromyalgia flares. Your life& your story is an inspiration to me - to never gave up and that anyone can change their life if they want to
Next time, you tell Ross to wait until better weather to collect ropes🙂 no rope is worth the risk to get crushed against rocks. And no ropes are worth the fear that you had to face. 🙂 but thanks for honest video 🙂 next time you take command 😉 looking forward to next episode from you guys ⛵️⛵️⛵️
was thinking the exact same thing, leave the rope and come back when the weather cleans up. Whilst I understand the ropes are important to their rigging its still just rope so as Bjorn says not worth even considering trying to get them and your efforts should be just on getting the boat where you need it to be.
I couldn't have kept my sanity staying anchored that close to the rocks with that wall cloud coming in. In the States those wall clouds can come with some scary winds. Anchors may have held, probably would have held, but would it have been worth it? I think you made the right move getting in deeper water. I enjoyed seeing the two perspectives, one from mom and one from dad. lol, it's the same in my house.
Awww guys, this was a hard watch! We've been in a situation like that before and I was exactly the same as you Laura. Glad it was all ok in the end. loads of love to you all xxx
Thank you for sharing these moments with us , your videos show us a beautiful life you and your family have , a life style that is only an envious dream for many of us , but to show us your raw emotions when things aren’t all plain sailing, excuse the pun , is so brave of you . Thank you . 😘
Good Sunday morning guys!! You were right but I had a feeling your emotional well being was being pressed to the limit and in this case you were. You knew the dangers and were overcome when all were safe. As I said, it’s ok. Internal pressure being released and you got back to normal. I was actually waiting for you to say… “you do that again and I’ll kill you!!” 🤣 Your family love dynamic is strong, always make sure it stays that way. It’s beautiful. With that being said, till next week when we can see the fish that were caught being cooked, be safe, be happy with much ❤️!
Sad, that was a difficult time for you guys. In the end, the family was together and safe. Not fun and games all the time and this was proof that struggles do exist, but in the end your beautiful family makes it through with love and faith.
Oh what an emotional episode. While watching it I really felt anxious about the safety of all of you and of course of your swimming home. Happy to see that at the end everything was fine. But what was this white rainbow? Never seen something like that. I really appreciate that you share also these very real moments of your boat life, thank you. One last question, when did this happen? Always fair winds to you! 🤗
I don't think some people realise, it doesn't matter how capable you are on your own, there are moments when all you can do is wait but your body is pumping out adrenaline to get you ready for action so it needs a release. Pretty sure you'd cope with anything you had to and thanks for sharing all the amazing memories
Thanks for your positive and realistic comment! Under those circumstances it’s a case of ‘you had to be there’….SOME people also forget that a first mates job is to wait for captains orders and a mothers job is to keep her children calm and safe….double pressure! 😆. Thankyou for your support and watching! X
It is way past time to spend more time learning about the boat and how to handle emergency situations and less time strutting around. What if Ross didn't come back from his dive? Could you raise or release anchors and free the boat? These are things you need to consider. Be fierce, not fragile. It was your limits that were tested. Weaknesses were evident. Tough love.💪
Yep. I know exactly how to do those things…..it was Ross diving alone that I was worried about 👍. Less of the ‘strutting around’ thanks….I do a whole lot more than you will ever know.
@@SailingHollyBlue Careys Travels made a similar comment about your skills. Hopefully, dear all wives strut around for their husbands in private...more than you know.
@@nooneanybodyknows1321 I realise any attempt to enlighten you about my sailing capability (that you see & know very little of) is probably futile so I wish you only the best and hope you continue enjoying our content 👍😉
Big ups to you for pulling of the Mum part of this situation! Hard enough keeping it together on your own! Let alone doing so while keeping two wide eyed boy feeling safe & loved throughout the ordeal!! Well done Mum!
Love you both, such lovely people. By the way. There are some people who say that there is no difference between man and woman. How they react to the same circumstances. Well look at Laura and Ross. Such great fun to watch.
Haha thanks for the comment and yes in our case for sure!! I (Ross) am most anxious when put on a stage in front of lots of people!😅 where as Laura will rock the stage, weather it’s singing, dancing, presenting or public speaking… It takes great character to show your vulnerable side and I have a huge respect for her in this regard. We had in (real time) another situation yesterday in a port where she really stepped up and showed her strength as a sailor which really shone through… We try to keep it real, show you all the journey and part of the fun is seeing how we all progress… I wouldn’t change her for the world 🥰
I guess it’s the price one has to pay every now and then for the great days. You don’t set out for the bad ones but when they come up you just have to deal with them I think. Looks like Ross made the right call to me….. though I think I might have left the lines for a better day…. But then again the skipper is fitter than I am!! Stay safe crew 👍
Good episode, we've all been there. Allow first mate to do more captain tasks, I think the fear is about being in charge of children and home if dad is away when things go Pete Tong.
100% it was a combination of worry for Ross, mental exhaustion at watching the boat whilst he was gone, trying to keep it cool and the overwhelm of responsibility! A pressure cooker….took me a few days to recover from this one x
Laura, I loved your thoughts about your husband being away from you. Wow. You are a woman to true to the woman inside you. I am a research scientist. I study human connection. One of the only as far as I know. I don't study how to fix broken relationships. I take the opposite approach. I look for what works. The concern you showed for him was real love. This is simple. When you care about someone, AND you are not working with them, then you worry about them. Laura, this is the rule. We create real love, an idea beyond emotional love, when we work together. You were not working with him. He was off doing.. whatever. So you worried. You are a real hard core woman. The way women are supposed to be. Thank God for those of you who are authentic. Keep working together. Observe if you will the four words of your spirit (heart). Respect, trust, hope, gratitude. I admire you and your husband. You were worried sick. This is the way women who love their husbands are when they are not with them. This is real love Laura. Good job. You are living by those four words. You and your husband. I wish the best for you. You are on the right track.
Beware flat water and no wind. It will clock right around and pound you all over the place when you least expect it. You will have to either relocate immediately or lose you boat.
I take your point, there is stress in all families, and noone can protect children from it all the while. The difference here is that these children aren't mixing with lots of other kids and adults as they would in school for example, or with family, or with neighbours to balance that out. As parents you have a much greater responsibility here.
Picture this if you will. The last 24 hours for us. We just got back from an afternoon out playing with some local friends kids in a pool, last night we had dinner out with close friends (one of which is their homeschool tutor), a buddy boat with two children who the boys are making friends with just rocked up next door, we have a meet up every few weeks with other liveaboard families, they have local friends on almost every island we’ve visited and we have 8 members of family visiting for the whole of September. The boys also have a lot of surrogate ‘grandparents’ from our 2 6 month stints in marinas during lockdown when there were many many friends made both young and old. We tend to not film time with friends and family because those times are for us to enjoy, not for us to think about filming. Did you say something about them not mixing?!
I can imagine the worries can be overwhelming but at the same time you cant let it rule you or it'll eat you up if you let it. Maybe its time for a break from the sailboat IDK ???
I am so glad Ross is okay. Laura kiddo you just need to stop and take a breath. I understand why you got upset. But remember the little ones. If they see u upset they will get upset. You are a rockstar. So happy you lot are safe .
@@SailingHollyBlue thanks babe you know I can only hold in stress for so long and then it’s got to come out! Negative feelings are toxic to keep inside x
It's life on sailboat ⛵️, not always peaches & cream sometimes its a Rocky road ,,yes I'm eating ice cream as I'm writing this ,but you got thur it ,so keep calm and carry on
Must be wondeful to have a partner that cares so much about you. As for the storm, ropes ect, hey ho that boating. You did everything right, so no drama.
We often worry needlessly but it's ok when it is for loved ones or self in some respects until it affects our ability to act with a calm mind...we do our best nevertheless
Nothing to get you going like the wind direction changing on you and all of a sudden putting you on a dangerous lee shore, that was your wind protection a few minutes before. . That's certainly got our adrenaline going a few times when it happened to us. But, all's well that ends well.
That looks like a flat calm at the height of summer in Cornwall ! And that impending storm is sea fog. Surely you've come across plenty of that in Cornwall guys? There's nothing like a spot of dramatisation!👍
Not as dramatic as that fog and certainly not the unpredicted swell that came out of know where…not ideal when backed up to rocks 😂 . That area of Greece is not known for these waves during the summer months it was totally random!
man! My wife would have been like "You're an idiot! I knew we never should have bought this boat! I knew we should have never set sail on this MAGICAL adventure! Good! Thats what you get for going out in this shyt!!!" Im just now realizing my wife might not love me hahaha
😂 😂 it takes a certain kind of person to be petrified but still want to stick around….this life isn’t for everyone but you know it’s for you when the tough times don’t put you off the overall awesomeness of it all 👍⚓️🦋
I'm probably going to add to the comments below, and would have just left the two shore ropes there & recovered them later. Poor little Laura left on board with the responsibility of the two boys, plus the boat, plus the unseen uncertainty of you, and the uncertain weather, was just a wee bit too much for most, especially with a front rapidly approaching. However, you were a little trooper Laura & although being fragile, you handled it well. Ross, think Laura needs to give you a good spanking..!! Just spare her a little more consideration in future. That's worth a lot more than a few metres of rope.. End of lesson..
Never Go Sailing IF YOU CAN'T COMPLETELY TAKE OVER AS CAPTAIN AND SAIL THE BOAT YOURSELF! YOUR KIDS NEED YOU TO STEP UP AND BE STRONG ENOUGH TO FULLY CONTINUE THE DREAM IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO THEIR DAD! SO LEARN EVERYTHING THERE IS TO KNOW ABOUT THE BOAT, BECAUSE, ONE DAY, YOU WILL HAVE TO COMPLETELY TAKE OVER! He Could Break One or Both of His Legs, OR WORSE! Get On With It and LITERALLY LEARN EVERYTHING THERE IS TO KNOW ABOUT BEING HIS LEGS!
I think you need to get into understanding and handling the boat when Ross out. So you can protect the boys, yourself and the boat from any situation. That will take your stress away. And put a Walkie into the tender, just in case. Are you guys going to stay in the Med. or is going around the world on the map? Hang loose....
It was a case of ‘sit and wait’…..we were anchored safely and though you don’t see it (perhaps we will include more in future episodes) we brief what the situation is and what to do if things go awry whilst he’s gone…..but waiting for him to just return safe is sometimes the hardest mental battle of all…..it’s a situation which requires faith 👍. We never really know where we’re going we just make plans season by season depending on where the kids are happiest and where we haven’t been yet 😉
😂 Laura was prescribed anti-anxiety medication to help her Fybromyalgia but she refused it & instead manages it with lifestyle….but when events like this happen it can kick it off and anxiety is one of the symptoms she battles with.
@@paulklebaum1682 thanks Paul - I’m all good! Lucky to live this relaxed lifestyle - even though at times it’s FAR from relaxed 😂. No pleasure without the pain 😉
@@perfstaas7188 ok so the 4am waves crashing on the rocks behind us, the boat pitching madly, the captain being thrown onto said rocks, the swell in the bay (usually calm), the huge front of fog coming and a petrified emotional mum wasn’t enough? Sorry buddy that’s your lot!
I've not seen your videos before, but as someone who has worked with children most of my life, I would say you shouldn't be doing this. Clearly mum is very stressed at times ("Mummy's just freaking out as usual), and worried for the safety of dad (when he returns, "He's alive!"). These children will be experiencing a lot of parental stress, anxious for the safety of one or other parent.
Try watching some other episodes mate like our latest one… we show the rough with the smooth. Every family gets good and bad days where ever you choose to live… You can’t judge us accurately, just based on one episode! 😉
Another great example of the difference between a Man and a Woman...everyone take your place. Liked the music taste in the video. another thing it seem thta mom was not listening to the kids
That is possibly an unfair opinion/judgement to have/make - based on the fact that this was a difficult attempt to show an experience using just a few minutes of footage quickly shot over a period of many hours. What it DOESNT show is the many conversations and cuddles that happened in between picking up a camera....of which we can assure there were many. Glad you enjoyed the music though 👍

It's no easy to have fibromyalgia we get extra anxiety. I cried with u Laura
Your life& your story is an inspiration to me - to never gave up and that anyone can change their life if they want to
Thank you to you all for telling it how it is, take care and stay safe
Thankyou! That’s exactly what we hoped to achieve - less perfect, more realistic! 👌⚓️🤗
Hé doesn’t sleep. He tries to keep you calm.
If he panics, it’s over. Man knows it very well
Next time, you tell Ross to wait until better weather to collect ropes🙂 no rope is worth the risk to get crushed against rocks.
Thankyou! X
I was actually waiting for you to say… “you do that again and I’ll kill you!!” 🤣
Your family love dynamic is strong, always make sure it stays that way. It’s beautiful. With that being said, till next week when we can see the fish that were caught being cooked, be safe, be happy with much ❤️!
Nail biting, felt for you there. The power and beauty of the sea. ❤
Petrifying and awesome all at the same time!
I used to b a world traveler but got disabled...live the dream now. Thanks for allowing me along...
Thankyou! Comments like this make all the hard work totally worthwhile! Thanks for inspiring us today 🙌♥️⛵️
Mummy’s just freaking out as usual. LOL, we love you guys.
‘You had to be there’ lol! 👍⚓️
That rainbow 🌈 is still a mystery to us too! ⚓️🦋👍
Your. Videos awesome, professional and honest
Thanks! X
Big ups to you for pulling of the Mum part of this situation! Hard enough keeping it together on your own! Let alone doing so while keeping two wide eyed boy feeling safe & loved throughout the ordeal!! Well done Mum!
Thanks!
Thankyou that means a lot….I tried my best - that’s all you can do! X
We had in (real time) another situation yesterday in a port where she really stepped up and showed her strength as a sailor which really shone through… We try to keep it real, show you all the journey and part of the fun is seeing how we all progress… I wouldn’t change her for the world 🥰
Can’t quite grasp everything y’all say but I love hearing you say it😜
Haha thanks! ♥️🦋⚓️
That storm is just reminding you that you are alive!! LOL
Certainly did! X
Shoulda left the bloody ropes man. Ya freaked us all out. Wait for a calm day!!
Nicely shot & edited, great story telling, well done.
Great video guys
Thanks as always Todd! 👍🤗🦋
Love you guys.
Love your video ty
Ross returning in the boat "UH" best bit of footage to date!
Haha it did make me smile! Watching back… 🤙
Sometimes Rosses comments can be really funny😂 stay safe guys!
He says the most random things & we love him for it 😂 x
Communication?, walky talks ,then there are less worrying 😂🇳🇱👍 nice video
If you know a waterproof, shock proof, Laura proof brand - then let us know! 😂
Love your vlogs. I would have been the same. Such a lovely family 👪 ❤️
Thankyou x
I can imagine the worries can be overwhelming but at the same time you cant let it rule you or it'll eat you up if you let it. Maybe its time for a break from the sailboat IDK ???
Nah - with the rough comes the awesome smooths with sailing and that’s when you recover from the rough moments and come back stronger! We love it!
It all worked out!
Sure did!
I am so glad Ross is okay. Laura kiddo you just need to stop and take a breath. I understand why you got upset. But remember the little ones. If they see u upset they will get upset. You are a rockstar. So happy you lot are safe .
Laura was a rock star from the minute the waves started smashing us at 4am but she’s only human.
@@SailingHollyBlue thanks babe you know I can only hold in stress for so long and then it’s got to come out! Negative feelings are toxic to keep inside x
Ross I totally agree. We are only human. You guys did great. Laura was outstanding. I hope you all are safe.
It's life on sailboat ⛵️, not always peaches & cream sometimes its a Rocky road ,,yes I'm eating ice cream as I'm writing this ,but you got thur it ,so keep calm and carry on
Hope you enjoyed it! 🍦! The Aegean is particularly tough to learn to sail in….a baptism of fire but it’s taught us FAST 💨

She’s a 42ft Bavaria 👌

Rough go there!
Sure was Kris!
He not going to let anything happen to his family so hang in there stay safe guys
🙌🙌🙌♥️⚓️
Nothing to get you going like the wind direction changing on you and all of a sudden putting you on a dangerous lee shore, that was your wind protection a few minutes before. . That's certainly got our adrenaline going a few times when it happened to us. But, all's well that ends well.
Couldn’t have been more of a contrast than the conditions of the day before! 👍⚓️
Quick kids to the Hilton penthouse bahahahaha
You’re paying 👍
Ok
Weather modification at its finest!
With male logic and female mother bear instincts you all got it done and safety was accomplished. Jolly good you seafarers.
…..well I guess we did ask for feedback 😂. Though did you realise you left your caps lock on?
🙏🏻...
Thankyou as always for your continued support 🦋👍⚓️♥️
Ms. Holly so perty
👍🌊🎣⛵💯
@@SailingHollyBlue Sounds good, I look forward to follow your journey ahead. Be safe, See you out there 😃

😂 Laura was prescribed anti-anxiety medication to help her Fybromyalgia but she refused it & instead manages it with lifestyle….but when events like this happen it can kick it off and anxiety is one of the symptoms she battles with.

@@SailingHollyBlue The bade weather. Nothing more : )
@@perfstaas7188 ok so the 4am waves crashing on the rocks behind us, the boat pitching madly, the captain being thrown onto said rocks, the swell in the bay (usually calm), the huge front of fog coming and a petrified emotional mum wasn’t enough?

@@SailingHollyBlue just my humble opinion. Nice thumbails. I just surcribed. "
