Those ah beng phone shops who processed new line sign-ups without verifying the identities of their customers should also come under prosecution. So long as someone can produce an id card, they would accept it for signing of new lines without even ascertaining whether the guy in front of them who produced the nric is the rightful owner of the nric produced. They just want business, or who knows, they are a party to the gang.
Ya there is a law about that now but this crime happen around 2012 to 2013 where the law was not implemented in Singapore yet.
So how would you go about verifying whether the IC really does belong to the guy who presented it to you?
@@et8633 - - - Just like how a bank teller would verify your Nric when you want to start a banking account with them.
1) Compare the photo in the ic with the person in front of you.
2) Roughly guage the age of the person in front of you with the year of birth in the Nric to see they make any sense. For example if you have Mark Lee seated in front of you and the Nric he produced shows his year of birth as 2000, reconfirm with him if that was his Nric, if he insists, you can call the police right away. If the year of birth in the Nric roughtly matches the person in front of you, but the photo has roughly a 75% resembrance, as the Nric might have been issued long ago.
3) Explain to him that due to the difference in look from his Nric photo, ask him if he has any other forms of ID verification like a driving license, company's employee pass ...etc.

Avoid walking alone in secluded area, arrange family member, etc is not enough. Once you being attack you got to retaliate by defending ourself. But what happen next?? Do We the victim face prison time?
If you attack as an act of self defence, you will face little to no punishment.
