Just finished similar upgrades on mine. Just installing a FR on this guitar and getting the action really low started making the harmonics on the stock pickups pop. I swapped the pickups for a DiMarzio Air Norton neck and DiMarzio AT-1 bridge (this set the closest retail pickups to the stock EVH/Axis pickups according to DiMarzio support) and upgraded the pot to a CTS 500k. Also put peraloid tuners on, I found a set of Gotoh's on ebay for about $50. The end result has one of my favorite guitars. Will be putting up a video on my channel by next weekend.
I had a purple finish one years ago, the headstock had been sanded back to bare wood so I downloaded and printed a scaled photograph of a purple OLP headstock from the internet and glued it to my guitars headstock then finished with several coats of polyurethane clear coat, it looked pretty good. I also fitted a cheap Floyd and it seemed to improve the resonance and tone. I sold it to a mate after all that work! I then owned a MM1FR which I regretfully swapped for a PRS SE Soapbar, they are pretty hard to come by now. I’ve just bought a beat up Red MM1 which I’m going to clean up and mod so looking forward to playing one again soon, great little guitars!
Can you send me any photos ..instructions or video of the install ..of the floyd and locking nut...I have a Piano Black OLPMM1 I want to do the same...lmk
@@Big_Uncle_Randy Well, It’s REALLY difficult, I bought studs which are like wood screws that are a Floyd Rose official part from Amazon and I pretty much destroyed them and the finish of the guitar getting them in…
I have found a red olp same red flame top and even flamed neck like van Halen a it's a olp not a music man and I'm thinking of building a cool hot roded one like this with a Floyd rose and some nice Seymour Duncan alinco 2 I love those pick ups
Agreed! He of should just shaped the pickup mounts to fit the Pickup pockets. It would have been easy just to put the new Pickups up against the old pickups, and use a marker to draw the shaping lines.
Hay Rob, I have the exact guitar (except color) and wanted to know what pickup's you chose? Thinking about a EVH Wolfgang (bridge) but I wanted to ask for your input, Thanks.
It's a Duncan JB in the bridge and I think I ended up throwing a Dragonfire brand in the neck. I can't remember because the neck was a last minute decision not to use a Duncan in the neck so I used what I had laying around.
@@nellawell4976 I have thought about it but I think the wolfgang pickups are like $150 and for years I have thrown everything from Duncan to dimarzios to dragonfires to GFS pickups into my mods and have liked all of them.
I hear ya...but think of EVHs Og Franky was a grand total of maybe 150.00 to build...but how did it change Rock and Roll HISTORY!..not so much the cost that counts...if it sounds and plays good...who gives a rip how much it costs...imo I love low cost guitars that end up playing and sounding like guitars that are ten times the price....you tend to bond with the guitar more...but that's just me .....kind of like the muscle car or lowrider scene I'm in...when you take a Chevy Impala SS that was 2800 new...then cherry it out and throw a 750 hp Chevy LT4 under the hood. 😆 🤣 the engine is almost 10 times the og price of the car..

The OLP MM1FR is hard to come by as owners don't wanna sell em. Ask me how I know!
Love these guitars.
The Floyd blade nut so not look even ir the bridge pickup and ring are off.
I passed up a left handed MM Axis 40 Grey Quilt 2 months ago on craigslist and cant stop kicking myself
I’m doing the Floyd conversion myself…and the OLP MM1 that I got already had DiMarzio pickups in it stock…

I've got a Bog Standard one and I love it..
Great job. I picked one up for $100 was thinking about doing the same thing.
Any luck with fixing it up...
@@Mr316niles I haven't really done anything to it yet. Thinking about putting some EVH pickups in it but have a hard justifying spending $300 on it.
Beautiful. My favorite color
Also...magic eraser is a great tip!
You could have rounded the mounting tab on the pickup instead.
Awesome.

Cost of installing the Floyd would have been more than the value of the guitar. But good video anyway.
