BMW S1000RR vs European rivals

- In February we tested the BMW S1000RR against the Yamaha R1, Honda Fireblade, Suzuki GSX-R1000 and new Kawasaki ZX-10R and it dominated the test.
This week we put the BMW up against the Europeans - the Ducati 1198SP, KTM RC8R, Aprilia RSV4 Factory APRC and MV Agusta F4 1000R - to see if it can maintain its dominance of the 1000cc sports bike class.

Thank You SO much for keeping it raw and leaving the audio of the bikes vs. some music track. Wonderful review!
Please please please for the love of bikes someone start a motorbike channel with proper bike reviews and people actually getting excited about bikes rather then just reading the sales booklet out loud and saying what the manufacturers want you to say. have some damn passion! Everytime I watch an MCN video I end up not wanting the bike just because of how boring the damn video is.
+The Mighty Dash watch 1000ps.
+jerryx2000 Isn't that in German :/
The Mighty Dash the also have an english channel
+jerryx2000 Brilliant I'll check it out :D I was wondering if I was going to have to get some people together and start a channel myself XD this is much less effort :p
The Mighty Dash where are you located. I would be interested. I often try new bikes but still love my '05 ZX6R.
Nice Video MCN! The last 10 seconds made me think of something..
You guys should totally record the sound of all the supersport bikes under full acceleration and have an audio library on your site.. I could listen to those engines all day! (and night)
Seriously, Do it!
That Aprilia sounds absolutely like an enormous shitstorm on a warm summer evening ^^ I love it!
However, the L-Twin sound on the Ducati is still the best imo ^^
Don't ask me how but I was lucky enough to put a deposit down on the new Aprilia RSV4 APRC SE way back in November. I was initially gonna get a Ducati 848, then an S1000RR. But when I saw the RSV4 APRC first announced I knew it was something special and different. I think it's the closest thing to a modern day Honda RC30 in terms of performance and exclusivity. And Lord knows I let that one pass me by. Not again. Anyway shipment should arrive in late April. Can't wait.
08 zx10,,,sold,,,,08 Cbr 1000rr. Sold,,,,just purchased 2010 aprilia RSV4R. Loving it. Great rides all around. I love the looks of the F4.
waiting for them to actually use the MV AGusta F4RR
This video was very well done!!! More like this!!!!!
oh my god! I love all of them! Thanks for sharing this!!!
The commentator on this video sounds like my Automated banking when I use phone banking lol:)
switching the bikes to te super corsa's sc2 is the best choice ever!
u guys did e great coverage!
great vid guys, more like this plz
00:33 - "Willy control" heh
Italy, Italy ! The best bikes in the world come from italia mates
Italian is always beautiful & expensive. Japanese is always affordable & reliable. And German, well it will always be what others have to compete with. The Aprilia is wonderful but wait for BMWs retort especially with the Kawasaki H2 being released.
When that blade drops it's game over.
Without seeing the end of this video, the one I was cheering about was the RSV4 and I became totally amazed when the RSV4 won the test because for me the APRC worths its weight in gold.
The last image is epic !
I'm going to hold out an see what Honda's RVF1000R has to offer before I buy either of the two top bikes "BMW , aprillia " . I love my CBR 1000rr and wanted to upgrade to BMW. I think rsv4 is a bit small for my 6"2 225 lb frame. Though great bikes indeed. Keep up the great videos mcn
the aprilia and ducati are just stunning
Good review.. Thanks guys.
its like being at a funeral listening to these people
Just compare any of these bikes against bikes from 10yrs ago...amazing how far thigns have come.
Great REVIEW!!!!!.....greetings from Argentina!. go BMW!! (Gs800 owner ;-)
I really wish MCN could sort the sound on their videos.
Well said man. This is all that matters, unless you are racing these bikes. But even if you are racing them, you will put aftermarket parts on them. So again, very good point! =)
@tose023 I wanted the Beemer to start but the dealer wouldn't budge on price, so I bought the RSV4R, I really like it for the engine, very snappy, how did you like it compared t the new BMW?
thats the way to go...for me Ducati, but all are fabulous bikes!!!
The mv agusta has always had the coolest looking factory exhaust
the sound of the F4, music to my ears
WHEELIE CONTROL. NICE. NOW I WON'T MESS UP POPPING A WHEELIE :D
why are all mcn videos so low quality, even on 720p it looks like 480
+Oli 325 I know right, it's like they film it on their phones... probably explains the shit audio too, everytime the wind is above 1mph it sounds like a tornado!
At the start of the video. what bike is that which is in front of the guy talking?
s1000rr for king!!! even the aprilia seems the best one... nice vid
You cant go wrong with any of these amazing bikes!
Those that haven't ridden the Aprilia don't have a clue. The chassis is awesome and the midrange power of that motor is simply unbelievable. Look for yourself in this video, the rider on the Aprilia could out-accelerate the S1000RR at will at track speeds - at 250+ the S1000RR will take it but it isn't by much. Dyno plots are for jerkoffs, the bike is the real deal. Having ridden one I am stunned at how planted the Ape is and how strong its brakes are... it's a race bike for the road.
Exactly!
Who cares whether the Hayabusa is heavier than the 1000RR?
Or anything like that?
As a civilian, I pay the most attention to the bikes handling, looks, and everyday usability.
I'm glad we agree.
My 2007 R6 has been awesome. I haven't had any issues whatsoever with mine. It has a small tick noise which I hear is not valves but from the chain tensioner. Thought it was an issue until I found out all Yamaha's make that noise. Have never once had an issue with it. Will scream to all day long.
I don't know where you get the money to buy those bikes, but I really hope you MNC are going to do this versus every year. Hooowooooo!!!
what was the average speed they were going?
This is one of the best Review ! Much appreciated and good ratings although I would grade higher n prefer Ducati over BMW ! :)
I guess that the anti-weellie wasn't working at the end... :) LOL
MV Agusta F4 is just a beautiful bike!!
I don't really care for the MV nor for the color scheme on this RSV4 but the RS sounds amazing in person (as do the other bikes). However, I'm really getting soft spot for twin (and V4) engines.. That sound, damn!
I'd still buy the Duke in a heartbeat.. :9
@klitcrew
thanks, he even states that its austrian in the video.
really nice bike from them as well
BMW S1000RR is still our favourit ... can't belive that the Aprilia should be faster ;)
@dexndi I'm only sharing the opinion expressed in the video, the Ducati won the three years following the Superstock 1000 Championship, yet in the video Ducati ranks in third place. However Aprilia and Ducati have a tradition in sport competitions is absolutely greater than BMW and among other things should be noted that on 15 August 2010, Aprilia became the most successful brand in motorcycle racing history, surpassing fellow Italian MV Agusta with a record 276th victory.
I back horses based on the colour that the jockey wears, I think the colours are the main difference. There was less than a second difference and all bikes are capable of 3 times the normal speed limit. What a choice.
what year was the mv f4?
My 47 yo, 5'10", 165 lb godson has them all albeit not all the same year
but they haven't changed that much other than the 1098R to Panigale.
Track day - 1) RSV4 factory aprc se and then 1098R, 999R and Pani
Ducs followed by BMW S1000RR and the MV F4 1000RR. Fun to ride
1) 1098R and then RSV4, Pani, MV (stops foot traffic), BMW. Yep, the
smile factor counts a lot. CA hwy 243 up San Jacinto 1) 999R, RSV4,
1098R,Pani, BMW, MV. All have full on race ecu's, Ti exhaust etc -
MV dropped 40lbs. IHO.
I want to see this test done with Bimmer sporting an Ohlins get up and Aprilia wearing Sachs suspension...If Aprilia still wins, I will bow to it
that's also true, but i was just talking about the race track, not about a simple road. I've been driving bikes in more than 2 countries, and I know the road is not a safety place to play around. If you wanna ride for fun, the road is okay, only if you don't play smart and you think you're in Moto GP... But If you wanna have fun doing like a pro, then get a race track.
@Pilotak47 well, as they stated, they had a test-driver do the lap times for them because he knew the track... the MCN guys just tested the bikes for their usability, feel, handling and capability.
can someone tell me what a wheely-control ist? does it prevent wheelies?
@luigibattista10
Glad u said that
I just ordered one !!! Yehaaaaaaaaaaaa!! so cant wait !!!
Love the feel of the bike, seat position, tank width, everything. Red and White !!!
well, I wouldn't know where to begin, maybe the new mono frame, the ohlins suspension, the superquadro engine, the desmodromic valves, the magnesium alloy, the carbon fiber, a 112 mm bore/60.8 mm stroke making its cam revs WAY shorter, and faster, the DQS ducati technology which lets you shift without clutch or throttle cutoff, also traction control, ducati data analizer (customizes depending on rider) and 195 HP?
@SilencedTomato As far as I know it works like traction control. The sensors can tell if the wheel is going to lift and blends out the power delivery, so you can get away as fast as possible.
It would be very interesting to see a 1000cc Triumph Daytona.
@67claudius So are you saying the bike that Max Biaggi rode is the bike you can buy at the dealership? Did you see the 2010 World SuperStock results? Those are the bikes you can buy (the bikes they are testing here) and Ayrton Baldovini won 9 out of the 10 races on the BMW.
great vid.
i am in love with the aprilia and bmw
@aukes 1,06 is a very very good time, consider that the record is 1,02 with a Ducati 1090R done by a professional rider, I can't believe they did 1,06,2 with standard bike at the very first time there
@tirrell81
Before you do, keep in mind that the 2011 RSV4R has A-PRC, lighter wheels/exhaust than the 2010, and is basically the same price as the BMW w/the sport package. I own a 2010 R, and with suspension mods and a Race ECU/Exhausts, it's flat-out the best bike I've ever ridden.
@imfreeasabird It is not how you think it is. MotoGP bikes have willy control but you can still see riders only on the back wheel. It doesn't let you lift your front wheel when accelerating out from a corner.
love the rc8r colours
my priority...ducati sounds best !
Because that's what the manufacturers want us to do! They create the demand, we think it's important and so they get to sell bikes each year! :)
Agreed. I've got an 03 myself.
Aprilia's RSV4 aint no joke! Cant wait to own the Tuono V4 R. Can't wait for the Panigale, but all these bikes mash though...
What happen to the anti "willie" control in the last coupla secs
@lazynature1 That's because you love "torque talk"
(I know how you feel, since I ride a Hyabusa)
Lap times don't lie - but they don't tell the whole story. Who makes you smile - that's the one to buy!
wow - one whole second between all of them - we have to seperate them in good and bad bikes :D
i think they all look great - just pick the one you like most + remind: abs is not a bad thing to have on streets - would've kept me from crashing 2 days ago...
at 06.22 says: But the Aprillia is my favourite here. Paid to love it!!!! But is ok, its not your fault MCN, i can understand because theres director of Aprillia is just behind the camera man.
@Knickknack93 thing is it's even worse on the road... position will kill your wrists and neck. Then if it doesn't excel on the track...why not take the RSV4? Not like that isn't exotic enough compared to the mv agusta
@crazyboy8875 So are you saying that they dont compete with each other in European markets?
Did you see how close those lap times were? You'd be a fool to take them at an absolute. So many different factors affect lap times. If they ran the Ducati more times, they could've gotten that to the leader, if they ran the BMW more, they could've gotten that to the top spot. When the difference is that small, the main message should be they're all winners.
Watch out, we got a badass here!!!
Ducati!
Great Video! shame about the KTM it does look great, I was rooting for the Ducati
I'll tell you what, I'm still buying the BMW. The RSV Factory and the other bikes cost way to much. BMW is perfect. Right in the middle. For what this bike can do stock. Its amazing. Now just add the every day mods. To damn good!
Well, even on a test, if BMW happens to win.. a Ducati is a Ducati. Some Corvettes have more horsepower than some Ferraris, but you wouldn't care about that if you had a Ferrari would you? You're buying an engineering legend.
@VL4TV I also understood "willie control" Hahahaa
I seriously don't get civilians / amateur bikers arguing about the fastest bike with the best lap time, acceleration, top speed etc.
I mean, the difference is MINIMAL, and no matter where you ride, or HOW you ride, it won't matter unless you're racing on a professional level!
So dear RUclips wannabe bikers, shut the hell up, and talk about something you DO know.
As for the buyers, screw the lap times!
Like @livebyreason said, buy the one that makes you smile!
You'll enjoy THAT one the best!
@canyonbyker That's right - the bike you ride out of the dealership is exactly the same as the bike in WSBK - NOT.
The new 10r owns all of these bikes! The S1 does come out the factory with less problems than the new 10r though. The gearing on it is nice, the bike has less restrictions on it as well. The new 10r is covered with all kinds of restrictions. Once you do away with that though, it'll destroy the s1 with ease. BMW gets thumbs up for making a good bike out the box though. Ninja all the way though!
Just noticed that the MV is the F4 R - not the full on F4 RR. MV didn't build
many and this is an apples and oranges test using the F4 R imo.
nice! Well I have a 2006 Duke 999, with the old tetastretta engine, not the Evo, but still very fast and agile on flicks and leans. I'm selling it to buy a new Panigale or maybe a new 848 Evo.
@SodeNoShirauki The Aprilia RSV4 won the 2010 Superbike World Championship with Max Biaggi, as well as the Constructors' Championship, BMW was the eleventh.
If I could choose one I'd go for the KTM. I'd never push a liter bike hard enough to care about it's track performance against another.
I don't remember you reporting any track times when you tested the BMW against the Japanese bikes
@macgibbon When you come out of a corner and go WOT, the bike suppresses the throttle to prevent too much wheelie, giving you the most acceleration. (equipped on RSV)
rsv sounds so freakin good!!
Ducati for me....... Expensive but more a well-rounded package I guess.... BMW or RSV-4 are 2nd best for me........ I like 'em both actually and a lot..... MV Agusta is the one I would like to show off about, other than Ducati for sure...... I'll take either of the BMW and/or Aprilia if I am to race on weekends...... But, Ducati is the one I prefer all these together!!!!!!!
I like the KTM more, no electronics to go wrong.
Right. Only mechanical. haha
0:33 these bikes can control your willie 😁
MV is a beauty
can you turn all those electronics off? just wondering :)
Aprilia RSV4 Factory APRC, as he explains in the video.
