This little girl will have very few close friends. She will be violent. She will stand over kids at school. And frankly, she will become the bully at school that her father is trying to protect her from, or so it seems. I feel sorry for anyone who thinks that substituting a dog for good parenting is okay. The dog should be allowed to live its life as a dog, not as a stand-in parent who thinks violence is the answer to his lack of parenting skills. Military minded people often lose sight of reality like this guy.

I had the privilege of owning a protection-trained German Shepherd Dog for a year when I was in graduate school. They are wonderful creatures! This video is very typical of what they are trained to do. If my GSD perceived no threat, he was a big soft cuddle bunny who loved children and positively squirmed in hopes of being petted by any child we came across. And with smaller dogs, my GSD would lean his nose down to touch the smaller dog's nose and make a human-style smile with his lips, curving them up as he leaned down to touch noses with any puppy or small dog. But if he perceived danger, he would start to bark and then, if I didn't give the release command, he might have bitten someone.
This only happened twice: once when a male neighbor, whom the dog didn't know, walked past us on the sidewalk outside the apartment building, carrying a golf club up over his shoulder, as if it were a weapon... My dog took one look and started barking, and would have bitten the man he perceived to be a threat, due to his holding a "stick" in an upright position, had I not pulled hard on his leash and given the "release, friend!" command immediately. My dog obey, sitting down with his body touching my legs. My dog kept eyeballing the neighbor with the golf club until he had gone into his apartment. The second time, it was raining outside. I was walking my dog in the park with my umbrella and raincoat, when some man started following us on the deserted park path, yelling out some other woman's name. The man seemed to be mistaking me for someone else, and was acting rather strange, following us and shouting some woman's name, as if he were Brando from A Street car Named Desire, shouting "Stella! Stella!", or whatever the name was. My wonderful dog turned around and faced the man who was following us, and gave one big WOOOFF! at him. All I had to say was, 'My dog doesn't like you!" for the strange man to stop following us and go away.
This dog was just wonderful, both because he was protection trained and also because he adored children and was completely safe around them. After a year or so, I moved to a different house with a landlord who didn't allow pets, so I gave this wonderful dog back to his breeder. His breeder was a police officer who was in charge of his town's police department's K-9 program, and who had a wife and seven home-schooled children. So this dog "graduated" from being my protection pet in graduate school to return home to the police man who had raised and trained him,. only now he got to be the family pet, cuddling and rounding up seven little blond children (their dad was ethnically German to have been raised, himself, in the culture of protection-training law enforcement dogs--but he was not a racist, I would point out, but rather an admirable, fair-minded man who loved dogs and children, nothing like the racist police officers who have sadly been in the TV news these past few years). So my dog returned to his original home after a year with me, so that he could spend his time entertaining these seven little children, who looked like they might be a set of those those Russian wooden dolls of graduated sizes since they were mostly girls, and each about a year apart.... while their mother cooked in the kitchen and so forth, while the children spent their time at home being home schooled. For my dog, this chance to return home to the seven children he had grown up with was like going to heaven....he had clearly missed them all deeply. He was a very, very happy dog to be "taking care" of all those kids in the policeman's family.
And the policeman and his wife were happy to have him back in the family. The policeman told me that on Saturday mornings, somehow this dog managed to entertain all seven children in their basement rumpus-room for at least an hour after they woke up, which allowed their exhausted parents to sneak in at least one more hour of weekend sleep before getting up to make them all breakfast! I speculate that eventually, this talented German Shepherd who used to be my dog, may even have learned how to bathe and dress and change some of the littler children in the policeman's family, just like the fictional "Good Dog, Hans" in the children's picture book.

I commend this video because at least this dad is trying to teach his daughter about potential Kidnappers as well as training his dog to protect her.She could be out in the garden away from the house so this could be a real scenario the dog being on the porch.
