As a PC gamer, I thought the whole point of consoles was to be dead simple for the consumer to buy, grab, and go play. Going the steam machine route with tooooons of different systems would be an absolute train wreck imo. At that point consoles lose what makes them enticing in the first place, the simplicity.
I don’t think it’ll be any less simple than watching a show on Netflix, besides maybe having a controller around, because cloud gaming means you don’t need to download the game on those systems, you just need to log in and you’re good to go
@@cristopher8186you'll wake up soon... Maybe that Bot is processing reality faster than your brain. It's simple... put gaming everywhere, eliminate the need for one box. Ppl want Xbox to sell Xbox when Xbox wants the sell of Xbox to be on steam of revenue but not exclusive to it. PlayStation will literally be following suit, their games are already on PC Nintendo the most emulated company ever. So they are already everywhere they just receive no revenue for it lol
Im 30 years old. I remember when Xbox first came onto the scene back in the early 2000s. From that to where they are now is extremely disheartening. From a platform that took so many risks to being labeled as a subscription service today. How the mighty have fallen man
So, clearly this is Jedi-Marketing, right? Playstation: We have an upgraded system! Pay nearly double to see if you can tell the difference! Nintendo: We have an upgraded system! We won't tell you about it, so don't ask! Xbox: We have an upgraded system, ... don't worry, you don't need it! Ok, got it.
Meanwhile... Atari: Here's the 7800 again, now with HDMI and wireless controllers. At this point I'd rather keep playing on the consoles I've got than upgrade to a newer system. Maybe I'll buy the Switch 2 when it comes out.
nintendo hate talking about their next gens openly they like the reveal and the showing it off when its ready etc, sony and xbox love telling us about the hardware that has barely improved, nintendo atleast this gen are going switch but also its more powerful because our system can barely run a pokemon game properly and zelda is the height of graphical we can do without blowing the system up, so we listened and will make a system thats powerful but with our ingenuity that makes us better than xbox and sony. thats my take anyway
@@Soraking007 okay let’s stop blaming the switch hardware for the Pokémon games running like shit that’s not game freak, but you may have some points regarding the Zelda games.
Don't know what you are talking about for ps5 pro. It's a bit expensive sure. But the games I have and tried, I have seen massive gains in all kinds of ways. HFW if you don't update it has access to ps5 base performance mode and runs that at 105fps (during actually gameplay and not looking at the sky), after update you get fidelity mode at 60fps basically. Can easily see the difference. Ffvii rebirth is night and day difference. Eiyuden chronicles which ran like shit on ps5 now runs fantastic (the opening is still taxing but never leaves the vrr window so it looks smooth). Tales of arise graphics mode is 60fps now (skits are in the 50s and is pretty erratic though but since itsin the 50s its in vrr). Ffxvi while can't get to a locked 60fps spends a lot of its time now in the mid to high 50s when it was stuck at low to mid 40s before. But since it remains in the 50s it's vrr is active so it's nice and smooth. I noticed plenty of differences. This machine is more of a fps focused machine. If you care about frame rates while not playing at super low resolutions then this is for you. If you have games that don't run so great on ps5 they will run either much much better or be locked 60.
Remember back when Don Mattrick was fired and Phil Spencer was named as his replacement, and Xbox fans said that Phil Spencer would save Xbox, and even in the years following, Xbox fans worshiped Phil and said that he saved Xbox? Yup. How wrong the fans were. This was the plan all along. At least with Mattick, the most he was going to do was have Xbox making movies and TV shows, to more compete with Sony on their ground, and those movies and TV shows were going to be streamed exclusively to Xbox. So, Mattrick wanted to strengthen Xbox exclusivity and strengthen the console. Phil wanted to get rid of exclusivity and make everyone not need the console.
@@G360LIVE I certainly don't think Phil has saved Xbox. But I think he was right to pivot away from making the console your everything. Making that box a jack of all trades and master of none was a poor direction. Whether Phil's direction is any better or not remains to be seen. But it's been clear for a long time that Xbox as a console was never going to beat Playstation. What Phil did identify is that, at least for now, Windows is a dependency for PC Gaming largely. So blurring the lines between console and PC gaming is a space Sony weren't heading
@@kengoku3498 Because the competition is dead. Sony and MS want TV, PC and mobile owners to play their games and use their stores, the consoles are just "clothes" now, you can get the body elsewhere. Nintendo will go down the same route once investors force them to, something that could have happened by now if Japan wasn't so closed, eventually the only way it can save itself is if it goes private like Steam.
But consoles are generally dying if they are not named Nintendo. PS5 is not growing the brand any - and the attach rate is lower than it was with the PS4 despite selling more consoles. So MS is transitioning to it being a broad brand. Heck, Death Stranding can be played on console or PC with all data shared. That is the point.
At least the Wii U had exclusives that you could only play on Wii U (obviously before the Switch ported 90% of its library, but at least you still have to buy a Nintendo system to play the games and they aren't being ported to Xbox or PlayStation)
@@cameronramey9667 Agreed. While we see it as beneficial for PS. They may think that the word Xbox next to a PS could be dangerous because they are still competing with Xbox. If there was no Xbox console then maybe they would think differently.
I'm old enough to remember when people insisted that "just a few games going multiplat" didn't mean Xbox was giving up on hardware. If the writing on the wall were any larger and clearer, you could see it from the International Space Station.
dint atari have something cooking 10 years ago and they just keep silence too? i knew what they were doing was not going to work, they already were years late to the game and everyone was already seated (ps4 and xbox and pc) so if they did revive they would need artwork combine with specs and money to make it alive just barely. the artwork would go into making a good UI and the specs would be to run what a ps5 and series x can and the money for paying devs to port it to your console. that takes a big team so i can see why they went silent or they could have tried to ouya approach which we know how that went or stadia which im shocked people played red dead 2 on that laggy device.
Except Sega left us with the Dreamcast, a machine that had great games like Jet Set Radio, Skies of Arcadia, Shenmue, Soulcalibur, Power Stone, Virtua Tennis & Crazy Taxi amongst many more. Xbox acquired all those studios to simply become a software company, makes sense. They were bound to realise that gamepass would plateau at some point. They could only operate at a loss for so long, so making up profits by selling their studio releases on other systems was logical. I just wish they had more fighting spirit this gen, last gen was crap but I thought they would make a comeback & it seemed like that early on when they began acquiring studios, but their hands off management has lead to lacklustre quality & quantity. This mixed messaging of everything being an Xbox will only lead to more people switching to Playstation or Nintendo who have exclusives & also Xbox titles. Next gen is going to be an interesting one with Xbox on anything with electricity, PS6 with no disc drive & many other money grubbing moves to fleece us customers with one main competitor out of the running. So it all boils down to Nintendo, usually the most wacky & left field of the three, releasing an upgraded version of the Switch I wager. Strange times for console gamers of a certain vintage, I remember having your system & games exclusive to the system, having loyalty to the system you loved & sometimes secretly after playing a friend's rival system, wishing you had it instead😂
Microsoft's current plans are insane and make no sense. Subscriptions only attract so many subscribers and only if they're subsidised/super-cheap, so Games Pass is never going to conquer the world. Plus, MS is keeping content flowing by paying a ridiculous premium to rent games for it and buy companies, but they have the worst track record of the world for mismanaging projects and studios. So, even after spending all this money, it's VERY unlikely these investments will pay off long term, even if Games Pass could actually grow infinitely, which it can't. It's going to be a lot of fun watching it continue to flounder and fail as it has continued to consistently so far without exception.
Exactly, said from start when gamepass hits saturation there's only 2 options left , lower development costs and/or increase monetisation to continue growth
This isn't just a subscription service. They are moving the whole console on the Cloud. Soon you can buy games on the Cloud, both first party and third party Imagine this scenario: you have a PS4/XONE and you want to play GTA VI: you can buy a PS5/XSX for 500 dollars or... play the game on your laptop with Xbox. No console required.
Microsoft is basically saying your wallet is an Xbox so get ready for subscription Services/Cloud gaming because we’re tired of losing money and making physical consoles isn’t helping the bottom line.
To be fair, Gamepass is pretty much the best game service out there currently, reasonable price, good service, good selection of games, what else could you ask for.
Xbox is still Xbox. The console still exists. It just has a broader play these days. You just don't need an Xbox to play Xbox games. I see it as a nice to have. I love my series X, but it's nice that it also works on my (gaming) Laptop or Z Fold 5 for the times I'm not at home (where my Xbox lives).
I literally made a video on this exact topic two weeks ago, I like the idea of them licensing the xbox software like windows, more options while still having many of the advantages like consoles while providing more competition like PC manufactures do, maybe they will release the OS as a sort of gaming version of windows
Maybe that's the idea. Maybe they see SteamOS as becoming a threat to them eventually, and so they want to push XboxOS as a thing. The reason Xbox was even made was because Sony was threatening to turn the PS2 into a PC, which is a direct shot at Windows. Microsoft makes most of their money from Windows. So maybe they see SteamOS (which is Linux-based) as eventually growing from gaming to a full PC OS that would compete with Windows. And Steam is so popular, so much more popular that Microsoft has to sell their games on Steam and not just the Windows Store, that it's conceivable that the Windows OS could get a huge drop in support if Steam has their own PC OS to offer.
@@FlamelXXII or just not labeled it all. Businesses and industries change and grow. It makes no sense to compare it to past moments, when the industry has changed so much from that past context. Xbox is evolving past the traditional console market and viewing it from the lens of the traditional market leaves people to hold irrational views
From a purely business perspective this is mildly brilliant. Instead of competing with how things are they are trying to defend a new set of rules. From a gamer perspective I am not thrilled with streaming but From a business POV... this kinda makes sense.
Xbox consoles going the way of the Zune. The writing has been on the wall, go to pc while you can bots, leave before its too late, you will still be able to enjoy all the xbox games still.
Why would I jump to pc If everything is an Xbox. I can use a fire stick or a tv or my regular laptop etc. If high end consoles are dying the regular masses are not going to by a $1K PC?🤔
The idea of third party manufacturers making a variety of different Xbox hardware all using one system software is brilliant, that could be a literal game changer
I've been wondering if Microsoft would do something like Steam Deck. That the next Windows 12 will have a "game mode" so that you can start an XBOX mode. Kind of like Big picture mode with Steam.
I've seen multiple friends of mine, that don't play games, think "my phone can play aaa games now". Then they try one of these streaming services and the battery gets hot AF and run out of juice in 40min. Then they remember it's another subscription and cancel it in a month. These same people were willing to buy a Switch for the portability though. Just saying...a handheld.
I'm trying to understand the technical logic here. This doesn't seem right because streaming a game requires little to no processing power from your phone or any other device. All the computing power is down on the cloud end. Your phone is literally just streaming a video feed from the cloud.
@@MarquezDaniel Streaming just makes it possible to run a video on the phone, it's not free. It's still going to use juice like any other app. Sure, a brand new Iphone 16 Pro Max can stream a video for 2 weeks without recharging. But, most casuals xbox is trying to reach have sh1tty phones from 5 years ago.
Why is that a problem if you can play Xbox everywhere? That's what Microsoft wants. Only enthusiast who are willing to spend 800 Dollar will buy the expensive Xbox, everyone can play on lower end hardware. That's a win, not lose. This is how gaming should be.
Why would they panic, if they have the player base across all other systems? That's the strategy, being less reliant on a single hardware. Basically like Valve (with Steam).
So they turned the Xbox brand into a service… which mainstream consumers will equate with netflix, hulu, etc. This is brand confusion at its finest. The mainstream consumer won’t even make 2 and 2 and think of game streaming. Only gamers will know what it is, and they’ll be turned off. Just who are they trying to cater to?
Is it that hard to figure out? They are wanting to capture some of the mobile market, and make game sales there, and probably a push into China with cell phones/streaming AAA games as the main draw.
@@Matt-Brannan Do you know that the biggest reason why the Wii U was a huge failure for Nintendo was because consumers thought that the Wii U was just a big controller with a screen that connected to the Wii that they already owned? That's why the mainstream consumers who bought a Wii didn't buy a Wii U. They didn't connect with the fact that it was a new console. So yeah, sometimes these things are hard for the mainstream consumer to figure out. They're not really paying attention like we are.
@G360LIVE because wii wasn't marketed to gamers. The. Majority of sales where bundled with wii fit. People bought it at Christmas. Played a party game then never played it again. Wii u didn't hit the same cultural relevance because they mainstream fad had passed
@@JustFeral Don't be naive. Xbox is the Xbox console. This is the death of the Xbox console. Microsoft makes money, not Xbox. If Microsoft chooses, and they likely will in the next few years, they can drop the "Xbox" name and change to "Microsoft Gaming" or "Windows Gaming" or whatever they believe will sell better as a brand name. Microsoft isn't married to "Xbox". Not long ago, Matt Booty reported that the "Xbox" brand is stressed; consumers are seeing the name as a negative. So yes, we'll likely see a name change soon. And yes, this is the death of Xbox.
I mean, almost all console developers (aside from Nintendo) sell their console at a loss, in order to make up the loss by selling games after getting customers into their ecosystem. So this seems like they're expanding the concept of the xbox ecosystem to include other devices, which has been in the cards since GFWL and now Gamepass, so this seems like the next logical step in that vision.
That's not necessarily true anymore. According to Sony's CFO, the PS5 stopped selling at a loss in 2021. So, after less than a year they were making a profit on every console sold.
It's actually the opposite, it's the least logical step. The losses MS is likely to make funnelling endless content into a subscription platform that will need to be run at a huge loss/deficit just to not bleed subscribers faster than it can acquire them means that it's a disaster for MS. The execs running the show don't have a grasp on what they're doing at all.
That reminds me a bit of the 3DO, though they were still reliant on specific specs. The issue was the 3rd party hardware manufacturers couldn't sell at a loss because they wouldn't recoup anything from software.
@@SakuraAvalon Yeah, they have a handful of first party titles, Minecraft being a big one that's already on every device. They also own Activision Blizzard, so CoD, Diablo, Overwatch, etc as well.
As a Xbox customer I genuinely don’t care. Just let people play as much games as they want. Exclusives r stupid and I’m thankful it’s starting to fade out
There was already a theory that Microsoft was going the 3DO route by allowing other manufacturers to build the next Xbox. Essentially, Microsoft will release a new system that has baseline specifications. Then, PC manufacturers could build PCs with an Xbox-branded version of Windows that contains, at a minimum, the base line specs Microsoft sets forth. They could build more or less powerful setups as long as they don't go below the minimum specs Microsoft sets in place. 2026 keeps getting thrown around. It does make sense, as Microsoft will probably not want to compete against what is supposedly going to be an extremely powerful RDNA6 (Most likely RDNA 6.5) PS6 come 2028. Mainly because this will be a vulnerable time for Microsoft since the Xbox brand is extremely tarnished now. Trying to market such a thing is going to be tough enough. But if they wait till 2028, the PS6 will easily drown out anything they are doing. This model failed, however, for the 3DO. Plus, Microsoft cannot even get the Xbox application they have today for PC to work correctly. Their marketing isn't good, and their messaging is always all over the place. So, I think 2026 will be their last stab at any semblance of hardware. It's going to be decently powerful, but not at the same level as a PS6. Plus, Xbox on PC will essentially be just a glorified version of what we have today anyway. I just don't have confidence that Microsoft can pull this one off. My expectations are very low. So, if Microsoft surprises me, that's great! But otherwise, I really think their next system will be a dud.
It's a good plan, but it doesn't work without exclusive Xbox games. For example, if I'm Samsung, why would I build, market, and sell an Xbox that people have no reason to buy because all Xbox games are also on PC, PS5, and Switch 2? This isn't the movie industry, where all Disney movies and all Paramount movies play on a Samsung Blu-ray player. Sony and Nintendo have exclusive games that make people want to buy their hardware. If a person can get Xbox games on other consoles, then they'll buy the other consoles. There's no reason to buy an Xbox console, which means there's no reason to make an Xbox console.
They are just following their typical microsoft strategy 101 which is software everywhere and it seems to working for them and besides historically speaking hardware has never been their strong suit like windows Phone, zune, hololens and live example being ofc xbox itself.
I’ve posted this elsewhere This shouldn’t be news. We wanted clarity on what we already knew and we got it. Officially. Now that’s it’s official there’s a problem? The console is but an option to conveniently play gamepass and purchased games on a tv. Don’t see the problem. Xbox making a handheld also isn’t a problem because like windows you can buy a surface or get another device you prefer. Microsoft gets the money from the software being everywhere. This shouldn’t be rocket science. This only an issue if the console sales are the measure of success. No. Revenue is and getting your software out there is the way to go for that.
Yeah, this wouldn't have been an issue if Sony had good internal policies. You can look at Nintendo, which hasn't really had direct competitor and how successful it has been for them. The Switch has been out for almost 8 years now and it's just now starting to get lower sales.
@@GetERektedThey made a proper one a few years ago. Signing Genshin Impact as a limited time PS exclusive got the $1B in it's first two years on the platform. And continues to be a top ranker on PSN until this day. MS was approached earlier but they rejected them lol.
It's already boring, just look at the difference between the second half of PS3 and the PS4 generation. Barely any first party games and putting more of a focus on live service shit. This generation has been awful from both sides, Console gaming will be lucky if they get another 2 generations if things keep going the way it is. Long live PC.
Imagine going back in time, to the heydays of Xbox(360), interrupting yourself while you were playing Left 4 Dead online with your friends or something, and then explaining what the next decade or so would look like for Xbox gaming ... never saw that iceberg coming that was the 2013 Xbox One presentation ... never stood a chance ... downhill into the dark Abyss.
Maybe this is them hinting at what next generation actually looks like for Xbox. An open platform that can be accessed anywhere at any time. On any of your devices. Basically the equivalent of Steam for PC gamers
Bingo. People keep bringing up Sega but never want to mention steam since it doesnt fit their narrative. "but why would I buy an xbox then" why would you buy a steam deck then? For portability? Okay there it is portability and on any screen. I don't understand how this is so ocmplicated.
Hahaha no. Microsoft has made it pretty clear they want to make PC gaming more like consoles by exerting more control over the platform, not the other way around.
As someone who left my digital libraries ditched Nintendo & PlayStation for Xbox this generation. I'm really curious how this is going to play out over the next few years. (Yes I know Phil Spencer doesn't think I exist. 😉)
Bet you’re really kicking yourself in the ass for ditchin Nintendo We get a new game practically every week while Xbox hasn’t released much Maybe u should come back
Sega was able to straight up tell everyone "We're done with hardware"... Microsoft can't seem to do the same. Admitting defeat can be a difficult thing I guess.
They clearly want to kill off the Xbox brand it’s blatant at this point, and no one should be impressed by this. Literally everyone loses, Xbox users, PlayStation users and partially PC as well. Less competition means more nonsense is to be expected, especially from Sony.
I agree as a big fan of PS, and a fan that found it fun to dunk on Xbox over the years. PS today isnt the PS I grew up with from PS1 to the first half of PS4. They are super safe, and making bad decisions, and are overcharging for everything. Xbox kept them in check in the last two gens.
It would seem the opposite. Xbox is a service and subscriptions brand. Everything is an Xbox, as in our platform is open for all gamers on all devices. They will still offer a console and handheld for gamers who want that option
@@jimmymac2292why would you buy that instead of a ps5 or PC , I bought a Xbox series x and I am saving to get a pc I can play every single game I have on Xbox on pc plus more
More devices, more gamepass subs, more microtransactions. More money for Microsoft. Even xbox games on ps5 Its very smart business creating an ever flow of money back into xbox to fund more gamepass games, acquisitions and support of indies. If I have more games to play on gamepass then I'm a happy camper
The point they're making, and have been trying to for years now, is that the term 'Xbox' doesn't mean the physical box itself. It's why they changed Windows Gaming to Xbox PC. IMO that wasn't the best move, because people DO associate that term with the console (namely because... that's what's the console is called)
Sega went third party as soon as they stopped selling hardware because they already had a huge library of games to bring over to other consoles. Microsoft needed Activision to achieve their own Sega plan. They're building up the infrastructure they need to move on. That's why this looks so confusing; the next gen plan and the exit plan are the same plan. Yes, they've got another generation of hardware coming, but since they've never made a profit on the hardware, its purpose will be to buy them the time they need to go full third party.
@@goldmemberpbyeah, well, Sony hasn’t been doing so great and Microsoft senses that long-term the industry will be shifting towards PC gaming as-is. Microsoft’s plan was always to try and kill off the console niche because they knew it would hit Sony Computer Entertainment right in the balls.

I've realized how bad this was going to be since I bought a New 3DS, PS4 and Xone S at the same day in 2017. First I quickly tested my 3DS, inserted a game cart, and immediately begun playing, it even came pre-charged. Then I hooked the Ps4 on the TV, paired the controller, inserted a game disc, and immediately got to play. With the Xbox one I repeated the same steps as above, but the console wouldn't EVEN BOOT without giving it a wi-fi password to download a system update. Several GBs and hours later, the console booted, but would not run the disc, it asked me to install the whole BD disc in the HDD. Several GBs and hours later, the game booted, but refused to play unless I downloaded a ridiculous amount of game updates. Several GBs and hours later, the game started but wouldn't play unless I had a mandatory Microsoft/Live account. After the creating an account, the game finally started and let me play something (the game was Forza MS 7). The game looked good, but I realized the cars didn't have rearview mirrors. By this point I had spent several hundred dollars on this piece of sh*t, wasted a WHOLE DAY trying to make it work (cuz my connection was trash that day and this P.O.S. REFUSES to work without internet). I swear to GOD I almost threw it out of the window. I'm a game collector and currently have more that 26 consoles, from all generations. The xbox one was so embarrassingly BAD, I sold it it after 2 weeks, and never bothered to own another xbox. Literally the WORST gaming experience I had in my entire life. Never Again.
Yeah but how the hell is it going to work I mean I can't just go home and plug my TV in the wall and get a great experience I mean I have some ridiculously good internet and to be quite Frank it does not stream games worth a damn so somebody's going to have to make this make sense
There have been a lot of companies that have dropped out of the console gaming space but this has got to be the most unique surrender I've ever heard of. Writing has been on the wall for a while but you've got to admire their ability to spin getting out of the hardware market as a positive. Calling other companies devices by their own company's name is a funny move for sure
The 360 feels like a lifetime ago. I was a huge Xbox fan back then. Switched to PS4 after the Xbone reveal and never looked back. They were just never able to recover from that disasterous reveal.
Remember when we wished that we could play console exclusives on other consoles? Now, we we are here and we complain. It's just video games it's not that serious.
Consoles used to be cheap enough where you could buy all 3 platforms for a little more than the price of a PS5/XSX, now it would cost over a grand to buy them all
Reminds of the "There's no such thing as a Nintendo" campaign that ran back in the 90s. Silver lining, if Xbox loses their console patent from Kleenex-ification, maybe Sega can reverse what happened with the OG Xbox, which was basically just a souped-up Dreamcast? I'd trust them far, far more, and their studios' current hot streak of the last few years and hope for the future with their returning IPs is definitely a sight for sore eyes...

Whether XBOX abandons hardware or not, there is a real demand for a Steam OS-like experience on Windows. Using Microsoft’s OS on handhelds (like the Asus ROG Ally) and living room PC is a chore, and Valve has now set an expectation of what a good system software for PC gaming should look like.
For me, it keeps showing that Microsoft and the folks running the Xbox part of the business have no idea of where they're going or a solid business plan 5 years out much less 1 year out. Just head-scratching decisions and frustration.
It’s so funny to me that just a year ago, I heard people saying that PlayStation better watch its back once the Activision deal is done or they’ll go the way of Sega and now the one going multi platform is Xbox
How would Microsoft deal with the fact that, if they just license out the software, you don't have a fixed set of specs for developers. It would basically be a PC, as different manufacturers could have all sorts of different hardware configurations. It would take away one of the big draws of console gaming for both players and developers. May as well just go all in on PC gaming at that point.
I think this marketing is brilliant actually. This coming from a long time PS user. Never owned an Xbox before. But I think this is really setting the table for nexgen. They're making all the right moves right now.
I agree. They are utilizing their cloud to go after the people who can't necessarily afford the Xbox console. Game Pass is just not tied to just Xbox & PC. It's giving gamers more options. Xbox players who have the console will still get to play the games first and your achievements & games will continue to follow you ..business as usual. I would love for my friends on PS5 to be able to finally play Gears/Halo with me. I don't think they are giving up on consoles. It will just be another option to play their games. Only people I see who are really mad are fanboys. Console Wars been dead. 🤷🏾
They really aren't. It might seem that way if you haven't really given it a lot of thought, but Games Pass can't scale infinitely to become profitable. It's being subsidised currently (run at a massive loss/deficit) in the hopes it can achieve a monopoly that is incredibly unlikely. Nothing is certain, but it's almost certainly never going to be profitable in the way MS likely hopes.
Anybody can be whatever they want. I'm sick of you binary people with your console or handheld. If my phone or TV wants to identify as an Xbox who am I to say no. My laptop just identified as a 3DO. So brave. so courageous

As a PC gamer, I thought the whole point of consoles was to be dead simple for the consumer to buy, grab, and go play. Going the steam machine route with tooooons of different systems would be an absolute train wreck imo. At that point consoles lose what makes them enticing in the first place, the simplicity.

nintendo hate talking about their next gens openly they like the reveal and the showing it off when its ready etc, sony and xbox love telling us about the hardware that has barely improved, nintendo atleast this gen are going switch but also its more powerful because our system can barely run a pokemon game properly and zelda is the height of graphical we can do without blowing the system up, so we listened and will make a system thats powerful but with our ingenuity that makes us better than xbox and sony. thats my take anyway

To being an easy to access platform with multiple devices?
How is that depressive?
@@G360LIVE I certainly don't think Phil has saved Xbox. But I think he was right to pivot away from making the console your everything.
I think it's genius. Your grandchildren will play "xbox". Kids today don't care about these boxes..it's the adults..that do 😅
Microsoft's current plans are insane and make no sense.

I'm trying to understand the technical logic here. This doesn't seem right because streaming a game requires little to no processing power from your phone or any other device. All the computing power is down on the cloud end. Your phone is literally just streaming a video feed from the cloud.

Microsoft isn't married to "Xbox". Not long ago, Matt Booty reported that the "Xbox" brand is stressed; consumers are seeing the name as a negative. So yes, we'll likely see a name change soon. And yes, this is the death of Xbox.
@@Free_HugzDidn't you hear? The clouds are xboxes now
I mean, almost all console developers (aside from Nintendo) sell their console at a loss, in order to make up the loss by selling games after getting customers into their ecosystem.
Don't you have to make games for that to work?
Valve tried it, it was a total disaster, Microsoft won't do any better
They are just following their typical microsoft strategy 101 which is software everywhere and it seems to working for them and besides historically speaking hardware has never been their strong suit like windows Phone, zune, hololens and live example being ofc xbox itself.
Oh Stadia. I mourn the loss.
I’ve posted this elsewhere
This shouldn’t be news.

Yes, they've got another generation of hardware coming, but since they've never made a profit on the hardware, its purpose will be to buy them the time they need to go full third party.
if they do, Sony gets a effective monopoly on higher end consoles. A 700 bucks console is just the start before we get Apple level pricing
@@goldmemberpb Nope, Sony is in the backpedal. MS is going for monopoly by outspending its competition.
You can literally read it on Sony Leak, insights on how MS domination.
This is what killed the Steam Machine
My kitchen window is an Xbox. 😂
So xbox will become an app..
Yeah basically 😂😂😂
Already has been for years
The 360 feels like a lifetime ago.
No. You wished for it. Others didn't.
Consoles used to be cheap enough where you could buy all 3 platforms for a little more than the price of a PS5/XSX, now it would cost over a grand to buy them all
At around 6:24 seconds I heard a ghost whisper "3DO"
I’m looking forward to getting the new Xbox next gen (PS6)
PS6 is likely going to get cancelled or delayed. If it arrives, it will be 2028 at the earliest, but not too sure it will arrive.
This is nothing new. We've been talking about this for a few years now lol.
This stuff was going on when Obama was still in the White House. I guess he's trying to capture the views of the goldfish brained redditors.
microsoft is turning into Redbox.
lol red box wishes they were worth 3 trillion dollars, Xbox specifically might fail but Microsoft is fine and worth orders of magnitude more then Sony and Nintendo combined.
@@williammoore1030stop glazing
@@metro9640 how is stating a fact glazing, I don’t even own an Xbox, and said that they could fail, Xbox isn’t Microsoft, and comparing a bankrupt red box to one of the richest corporations on the planet is asinine, maybe understand what your reading, or not just immediately throw out internet buzz words at people.
Xbox is a dead brand walking
This marketing stunt feels as confusing as the Wii U’s marketing campaign
The Xbox Series X is the Wii U of consoles this generation, just with more sales.
Whats confusing about that
They are telling you that you can play Xbox on multiple devices
Is pretty simple
@@Adamtendo_player_1the Xbox Series has until now not even outsold the WiiU. And I mean both versions of the Series.
It feels like a reverse "There's no such thing as a Nintendo" campaign.
@@LG555 WTF? Thats not true lmao, XS has doubled the sales of the Wii U already.
It has also surpassed GameCube and N64
For me, it keeps showing that Microsoft and the folks running the Xbox part of the business have no idea of where they're going or a solid business plan 5 years out much less 1 year out. Just head-scratching decisions and frustration.
Microsoft is a former shell of their selves 😑
My PS5 is a PS4 player... and, apparently an XBOX.
My Series X was a TOTAL waste of $600!

Welcome back Steam Machine
It’s so funny to me that just a year ago, I heard people saying that PlayStation better watch its back once the Activision deal is done or they’ll go the way of Sega and now the one going multi platform is Xbox
Hey spawnwave
Gamers: We want Halo with split screen
Xbox: You’re not an Xbox
This is an Xbox 🗑️ 😆
4 years still nothing to help sell Xbox
Focus on exclusive software
Give people a reason to buy an Xbox
How would Microsoft deal with the fact that, if they just license out the software, you don't have a fixed set of specs for developers. It would basically be a PC, as different manufacturers could have all sorts of different hardware configurations. It would take away one of the big draws of console gaming for both players and developers. May as well just go all in on PC gaming at that point.
Microsoft should ask Nokia how well that worked out for them when they tried it with N-Gage. (Hint: Not at all)
Maybe because the N-Gage wasn't a very good handheld
"Can that get confusing?.... Yes"
I'm confused already!
A damn joke lol. I told Xbox fans years ago the cellphone is your Xbox lol 😂
Phil Spencer grabbing his Ozempic be like: This is an Xbox!
A laptop is a laptop not an Xbox
A phone is a phone not an Xbox
Gtfoh
I think this marketing is brilliant actually. This coming from a long time PS user. Never owned an Xbox before. But I think this is really setting the table for nexgen. They're making all the right moves right now.
How so?
@@DashawnJizzle Gears and Halo are old.
@@Lon1anspiderman and god of war are just as old. Hell spider men is a 70 year old franchise at this point.
Similar to the 3D0, different manufacturers making the console.
I think it's a good idea having other manufacturers making the console.
Anybody can be whatever they want. I'm sick of you binary people with your console or handheld. If my phone or TV wants to identify as an Xbox who am I to say no. My laptop just identified as a 3DO. So brave. so courageous

The tagline should be “This is a halo machine” or “This is a call of duty machine” however those franchises are all but dead in the water
