You don't need a "Xbox system" to play Xbox if it's everywhere. Instead of buying the system, you could buy a PS5 or PS5 Pro (or the newest Switch successor). Xbox Game Pass coming to those systems means less systems for the customer to own to play certain games.
I think it's quite clear what they're marking is it's game pass an cloud gaming on any device you want to play on it brings more customers and get people that would never buy a console because they can't afford it that so xbox games are not limited to just xbox, or pc is quite genius, actually
It’s brilliant for money people don’t see it but we have to realize this is what Sony will be doing this will be what Nintendo will be doing in 20+years
this is the best marketing they can do. they cannot compete against Sony if they simply remain a plastic box and wait in hopes of people to switch their primary platform for them. so instead they will go to their platforms , that's genius. PC is also king , Gamepass is the best deal in gaming AND Sony is ALREADY copying them with PS Plus Game Catalogue (which is literally Gamepass) and with Sony games being on PC!
Also, switch was successful was because of its portability. The gimmick worked this time. The Wii U had great games but the gimmick was weak and felt unnecessary so no third parties really wanted to support it. I mean remember, SKYRIM on the go was one of the biggest pushes for the system’s eventual success

I don't know about that. Game Pass had absolutely been a game changer for me and having the option to continue my progression across console and laptop (when I travel) is a big advantage. Not to mention I'm able to buy a game once and have it available on multiple platforms.
Meh. This is why I'm dumping consoles next year and keeping what I have for old games. My Steam Deck is where I play mostly. Just need a good rig for max graphics should I have the urge
I bought a Nintendo switch 5 years into it's life cycle not because it was the best thing on the market performance wise, but because it had a big library of great games I knew I couldn't play anywhere else. So yes, having a great lineup of games was enough to sway me to buy 2 Nintendo switch consoles, not the other way around.

I understand where you're coming from. Microsoft seems to forget that exclusive games sell consoles. Many of use get a prime console for our favorite franchises. My go to is Nintendo since they have most of my favorite games. Microsoft focusing more on hardware over games doesn't make sense. True they are hurting for a profit. However, they did that to themselves. When you buy and close studios that made your best games your profits will suffer. However, Microsoft focuses on their streaming services. Having a handheld that can download the actual game or stream it works in there favor. However, they need to focus more on games than hardware. Don't get me wrong, another handheld is great. However, we got handheld PCs that can play must online retailers. So, it's a high risk with a low reward. The Switch works because it was the frist and people were a bit more forgiving at first. However, they need to upgrade in order to keep u consumers happy. Also, the still follow traditional gaming sales while incorporating some new ideas. In other words Microsoft is taking another big step without a steady foundation. We just need to wait and see what happens.
Exclusives sells consoles is a common misconception people always make. Exclusives are the last thing people worry about when buying a PlayStation or Xbox. Most people buy these consoles based on what their friends play on. The only exception to this is Nintendo since they will not port their games to other platforms.
@smartphonefan5226 most online games have cross platform. With your logic, consoles should not be selling at all. Because nowadays you can get a cheap gaming laptop at the same price as a console. However, that laptop will have better performance in every way possible. I have one older than the current gen and it still plays better than either Xbox or PlayStation. However, I bought a PlayStation for their exclusives even though many are on PC. I also bought it because not all of the First Party games are on PC. Many people have this mindset. That, or they are die hard fans of the company. As I said before exclusives sell consoles. Also, we need competition in gaming or else prices skyrocket worse than they have.
@nathanjustice4253 Thank you for proving my point. Cross platform makes the games accessible to anybody no matter what platform they are on. Your logic that consoles should not be selling due to cross platform is incorrect. Not everybody can afford a high end PC. Again, your mindset on exclusive sells consoles is still invalid, unless it's Nintendo. Sony and Microsoft can survive without exclusives. I think you are in denial that Sony is slowly building their own ecosystem just like Microsoft. Exclusives can only last for so long. Multiplaform is the future and even Sony knows it. The console fanboys will need to get use to it. Also, exclusivity is quite anti-consumer.
@@smartphonefan5226 I didn't say high end PC. I said budget PC. You can get one same price or a little bit extra than a console. Also, many people still get a PlayStation for the exclusives since they don't go on PC on release day. You don't work in sales like I do. I know how most consumers think. That's what Xbox needs to do. Limit exclusive on their console or streaming service. If they did that then their profit margin may increase. I get what you're coming at but you don't think like the average non-gamer you think like a die-hard gamer.
Yeah I agree with you. But the fact they’re able to keep the console around while being 3rd party even when nobody wants it shows how much money their business model is making
I own both ps5 pro & xbsx and this is honestly a sad day for us xbox fans smh. This feels like the beginning of the end. Microsoft seems to be pushing me towards pc but if i go pc im only using steam. Microsoft doesn’t understand that console gamers enjoy the unique experience of the hardware. We enjoy exclusivity as it leads to unique brand experiences. Most of us don’t care about the console war because we own & love both! We like our hardware as long it has value and means something. Xbox seems way too watered down, its losing its meaning to me. I don’t like where theyre headed, I gotta imagine tons of people feel the same way smh.
Exactly he's a console gamer and doesn't even understand what the problem is with Steam and PSN account linking. Many PC gamers like me refuse to link a PSN account to Steam because we know Sony is using PC gamers to say to the investors this is how many users we have on our platform. There is no reason why single player games need to be account linking.
Exiting game hardware and making the rift between ps and Nintendo vaster is not pro-consumer. I am begging you to think long-term, beyond the iota of effort it takes you to stay subscribed to gamepass another year. Those is bad for competition. This is bad for gaming.

RGT asking "If I can play XBox games on other things, why would I buy an XBox?" I thought the exact same thing a couple years ago, and when Sony started porting PS games to PC. I knew the logical choice.
If by that you mean all of the companies are going to try to make their own hybrids within the next decade, agreed. If you mean everyone will be on PC only, just lol
@@gligarguy4010 Oh no no, definitely not the latter. I'm a PC gamer but I don't believe at all that it's the end all be all. Mobile, cloud gaming, PC, handhelds, etc are all taking over sections of the market so a console based future is slowly shrinking.
@@infernaltim Then yeah fair enough. PS6 might be the final "traditional" console, and Sony will probably follow everyone else in making their own hybrid eventually. But with the slow rate of adoption of PC gaming in Japan compared to the west we're a very long way off from a PC dominated future.
I actually like this marketing. Somebody was hired. As consumers, we think the consoles, but as a business owner myself, I would rather sell you a service over a good any day. You come back to a service, I can only sell a good a certain amount of times. I think this marketing is perfect.
Marketing an ecosystem is a clever idea. We are not living in the 90s and 2000s anymore. We need to move on from console exclusivity. Seeing more people have access to games is a huge win.
Mobile is the model of "games for everyone". Wait another 5 years and XBox games will be mobile games... Because if everything is Xbox, the most prominent device out there is not a PC, it's smart phones! You think a company like MS would cater the lesser of the consumer base? Just you wait, Xbox will be mobile games developer... Maybe with better graphics, that's it
@goonerOZZ That is a possibility. By that time, we will probably see more big games on mobile due to how fast mobile chipsets evolve. We have already seen older games being ported to mobile such as Civilization VI, Alien: Isolation, GTA The Trilogy, Fortnite, Grid Legends, Wreckfest, etc. iOS devices has gotten Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Resident Evil Village, Death Stranding, and Assassin's Creed Mirage. There have also been rumors that Valve is working on porting Proton to Arm chipsets which could open more doors, particularly on Android. Heck, we even got PC emulators up and running.
We've kinda reached a time where gaming(especially Xbox)is bigger than just a console. It's always a good thing to have options. They clearly just care that you're playing the games, not where.
I don't get where this idea comes from when consoles are still selling extremely well, the Switch is already the 3rd best selling console of all time. Console relevancy has not slowed down at all.
@tubguinace Right but there's still plenty other branches of gaming that are also pretty big, like PC and the handheld market. You don't think they'd want to capitalize on such markets as well?

Xbox Game Pass coming to those systems means less systems for the customer to own to play certain games.

Xbox has seemingly never understood the concept of the killer app, which is weird given that Microsoft understands it.
They never understood the concept that games are art.
Not true I know plenty of people who went out and bought a ps4 for spiderman. The Xbox One generation was the true flop. @@smartphonefan5226
