    Alan Lewenthal deserves much credit for his dedication to restoring the 69 Z28 to factory specs. The man lost money but gained an enormous reputation for getting it right the first time. Love the man's passion, Kudo's to Alan and his shop people for putting an American classic muscle car back on the street!

      John Hancock those stripes are so wrong it's ridiculous. Considering we haven't even gotten into details and something that big is already incorrect... It's the first thing and I'm betting it's not the last. An actual $100k restoration wouldn't have these sort of screw ups. Saying he "got it right" is exaggerating quite a bit.

    Great show with little drama but it is still a reality show. This is not a $100,000 restoration. He paid $7000 for $800 worth of quarter panels, we are not that stupid.
    No way he took a $40 grand hit to just sell it either. It sold for what he had into it at the most.

    This is the first car restoration TV show I've seen that shows the truth in the fact that he lost money. Car restoration is a labor of love, not a profitable business like flipping houses. The only way a car like that could sell for a hundred grand is if it was an unrestored original paint mint condition time capsule that some nut job drove from the dealership to their basement forty years ago.

    False claims. All of the 'risk' is on the show. Someone got lucky and picked up a "z-28" for a price that even at the final strike is too rich. The owner did not lose $40,000. All expenses are covered by the contract with the show.

  • @my31and37
    @my31and37 9 лет назад +25

    Talk about wrong info...the Z28 wasn't a "street racer" or a drag car. It was a designed as a track car to compete in the SCCA trans am series in 1967 , that's the whole reason the engine size was capped at 302 cubic inches, in order to fit under the 305 cu inch limit. Likely why the previous owner swapped in the big block to go drag racing. Unfortunately the restorer was dreaming to think he would recoup 6 figure restoration costs on a Z without its "born with" engine. Not a very wise move, and the 40 grand loss is proof of that.

      +harpguy1 Really, it was rated 290HP @ 5800 rpm but would easily do over 7000 rpm and had closer to 360hp. With the off road package it made about 460hp. I had a DZ 302 in a 70 chevelle and ran low 13s with smaller 1.94 double hump heads. Put a bigger cam and 750 duel feed holly and shattered the aluminum wheel at the track. Not saying these cars today don't make them look like grocery getters but they were fast for their time.

    In '69, the 302, 327 and 350 could have all came with the same 618 casting block. The only difference in these three displacements was the stroke. It's convenient that they do not show the actual DZ suffix code.

    My dream is to have a 69 Camaro built pro-tour. I would just get a Dynacorn body all new sheet metal. Also born and raised right down the street from Fisher Body Flint, MI.

    I bought a black on black 69 Camaro with a 327 4speed for 900 bucks cuz it had a factory steel cowl ind hood and rear deck spoiler . It was pretty beat up , one quarter literally full of bondo, motor on its last legs , used a quart every couple days.The Saginaw whined like a puppy. But it was all intact, all there factory FM radio nice interior , looked great wet at night. I found some as new Z28 badges in the box and bolted them to the correct places. First kid that saw it nearly creamed his jeans and gave me 3200 bucks for it. Back in 84 that was a good flip , tax free money. In retrospect , should have rebuilt the car and kept it how many black 4 speed 69 Camaro's do you get to own in life. One of many I should have kept.

    I thought the dz 302s were to compete in the trans -am/ can - am. Like scca type racing. Hence the cubic inch and hp limits. Also would have been cool to be able to show the build sheets and the options sheet for this car. With a ultra paint code z/28 rs provenance helps get that extra cash on the back end. Helps to know the exact paint codes

    PARTS...and LABOR (staff) , THEN pick an auction by what that auction house SELLS. NOT in Atlantic City where the sales are older classics. Musclecars sell at B+J, and MECUM.
