As soon as you switched over to the Shure the top end just died. The Wave DX sounds pretty good without messing around. And as someone who is about to take a ton more Zoom meetings with my job, and doesn't think his $35 Hypercast mic is cutting it anymore, this review was super timely! Thanks Cody!
Top-tier review, Cody! I can honestly say, if I had watched this BEFORE I bought my SM7B, I would have waited for the Wave DX. As a Just Chatting streamer, the Wave DX would have been perfect at a quarter of the cost. As always, thanks for making this!
This is great for streamers! I think they hit a homerun with it. I'm still eyeing a earthworks ethos but this Is going to be my go to recommendation for streamers. This video will be a great resource for people looking for quick information on getting this mic. Great review!
I picked up the earthworks icon pro. Definitely prefer the clarity over the re20 as my voice is naturally a bit muffled sounding. I think they reduced the price of the ethos a ton right? Isn't it only $400 rn? I do wish I had a SM7B sitting around to compare with though.
I was already interested in this and now I think I'm gonna have to pick one up, you really can't beat it for the price point! Been using the Rode Pod Mic and it's okay, but it's just missing that certain something. This sounded pretty good out of the box. Great review!
The Rode sounds really good too! I didn’t have one to compare but I really like where Elgato is going with their ecosystem and the integration of has with WaveLink.
Absolutely! You weren't kidding that all they need is a PC and Monitor and they'll have everything. Wavelink looks really cool, was tossing around the idea of picking up a Wave 3 until this came out.
thanks for this review Cody! I'm curious to know what you would think about using this mic for karaoke/singing streaming? I currently use the HyperX quadcast and it's constantly cracking when i get too loud.
The elgato is so top endy....there's a lot of mics that sound like that sadly. I like the aesthetics for sure ..and can't complain a whole lot at 99 bucks. Nice straight to the point video.
I have a Sony XLR Audio handle. It is a pretty simple device that allows me to plug an XLR cable in and connect it directly to the camera via 3.5mm cable.
Thank you for the review. For a 4th of the cost of the SM7B this does seem to be a mic worth picking up. I do wonder how it sounds VS my Audio Techica AT2035
I just bought an Elgato DX before watching this. Just curious, why did you give it 3 stars for performance? The mic sounds way better than the SHURE 7 personally speaking.
@@CodyRiffs but what about it’s performance is a 3 star? I mean, I read in a written review that it’s most beneficial when hooked up to an XLR mixer. Also, there’s downloadable software for it and it works with de-essers software too.
@elgato - Cody's reviews are SO helpful. Partnership vouch, for sure.
Thank you!

Yeah it’s pretty good right out of the box!
Great quick, concise review!
Thank you!

Don’t be too mad - you still have an awesome mic!

SM7B is versatile for sure. Definitely needs to be EQ’d to suit the users voice though
For real if El Gato made a Labtop streaming PC it would be easy $
As someone in the market for an XLR Mic you sold me on the Wave DX. Great video!
Awesome!

I thought of something else they could make since recording that. A desk. And a chair. I dunno…the possibilities are endless lol
lllllllllllllll
I have to try this Elgato Wave DX. To my ear, it sounds better than most of the expensive muffled microphones on RUclips.
It’s definitely more “dialed in” out of the box

I’ve sang with this mic plenty of times on stream and haven’t heard any complaints yet!

Yeah, I like that Elgato has a built in EQ with WaveLink. And yeah for $99, it’s really good option. Thank you for the comment!
Good review, I actually love your videos. You should just go full youtube haha
I would LOVE to, believe me! Lol. Appreciate the kind words.
what audio interface did you run it through if u don't mind me asking?
I have a Sony XLR Audio handle. It is a pretty simple device that allows me to plug an XLR cable in and connect it directly to the camera via 3.5mm cable.
For sure going to consider this mic.
Let me know if you end up getting one!

Very welcome!

The rating is relative to other dynamic mics. It’s a solid mic all around, not incredibly versatile. Fine for streaming.

I think it's dialed a little better than the rode pod mic but both are great mics just go with the cheaper one imo.
I think they are both $100 so probably just comes down to brand/aesthetic probably!
