- With the BIG bike trip approaching fast I really need to clear the decks & reach a point with this project where I can order any remaining parts - in the hope they will arrive shortly after my return home. With a few hours free this weekend it's time to get the rest of this little Myford lathe stripped down...
Watch out, Andy makes a major mistake in this video & I soooo wish I hadn't!
Enjoy
Andy

Appreciate you including the mistake, hitting the cast iron tail stock. We are all human. When we get on a roll we tend to get irritated by the thought of having to make a specialised tool mid procedure… in your case it was to machine down a piece of brass rod to make a punch. You took it well ( swearing was deleted of course )
Looking forward to re assembly 🎉
😂every day is a Sunday for me Andy, I am semi retired, so I only work when I won't to 😂
Bummer but like you said, you can fix it. Looking forward to the assembly.
Andy.they do.do Whitworth sizes in that year.lol
As I thought.
A set of Whitworth spanners might help. On my Super 7 a lot of the threads are 1/4 BSF and nuts are also standard BSW/BSF sizes.
Yes, its a whole year ago!
Lol! I know! It's been a crazy busy year unfortunately
I hope the rebuild is coming soon.
The dial with the 4 numbers, is used in thread cutting. A good series on the tear down, I want to see you put it back together.
I still run an internal grinder made for ww2 still such a great machine. Made in the USA.
just watched all the strip down videos in one go. Absolutely loved them. Have you started rebuild yet ?
Unfortunately not yet. 2022 proved to be a very busy year with fabrication jobs so the little lathe rebuild got put on hold. Still need a few more parts but hope to get it done this year. Pleased you enjoyed the videos. All the best. Andy
@@AndyMechanic ok thanks Andy, that's great news 👍
@@AndyMechanicI'm looking forward to seeing the minor, but hopefully interesting repair and rebuild. 👍
Greetings from sunny Scotland.
I think your repair is a very good idea and will work well but then I really don't know anything at least that's what my kids think
Superglue 😆
the gauge with 1 to 4 is to measure for screw cutting
the magic hammer is looking a bit sorry for its self . lol get the new bits on her
Was it ever rebuilt?
Bad newws, wait till you here cost to regrind that bed ways, or prepare to re- hand re-scrape them, which is many many hours of specialized training.
Good progress on the Myford. Amazing that parts can still be purchased for a 1950's Myford from Myford.
How will you fix the tail stock.....maybe TIG braze it?
Have a great Christmas Andy and family.
Cheers Kevin
i have a 49 broken in the same spot, turn it backwards in the lathe and face it off flat, and then make a new ring, then drill and tap 3 mounting scres for it
Thanks :-) yes, sounds like a good plan. Cheers Andy
Watched you last video. I noticed your Mitutoyo vernier looked like a fake to me. That would explain why it gets though lots of batteries. Was it cheap on eBay?
No, it's definitely an original, had it for around 20 years! Lol
Any follow up?
Not yet, still waiting for the rest of the parts - very hard to find these days unfortunately
Cheers Andy
What happened to the Myford lathe?
The lathe rebuild is on hold until I get the Triumph & Go-kart projects completed, sorry...
Cheers Andy
five thirty seconds 🤣🤣🤣🤣
The magic hammer needs a new name.. I don't suggest Thor..
Just about to start doing one of these I can’t find your reassembly videos. Any plans on doing them in the near future?
I'm on with an old Bonneville at the moment, hope to get back to the Myford in a few months. Cheers Andy
This entire series I thought you were gonna surprise us with "I bent the lead screw when I dropped the apron" when the back of the tailstock bent over I cringed the same way I do when I hear nails on a chalk board.
This is one of the big reasons I clean stuff as much as I can prior to tear down.
🤮
