• Vocal Coach FALLS IN L...
This is my favorite Kurt song, and it’s criminal how underutilized Chris’s magnetic voice was.
I live his version of "The Boy Next Door" but totally different vibe!
My absolute favorite Kurt performance! The lyrics perfectly show how happy he is to be back there with his friends and how much he's loving every little bit of it, while everyone else is mirroring his joy with the joy they feel in having him back. I love it.
Kurt barely got a chance to sing in most of the episodes, but when he did, it was very emotional. His character is very emotional and I liked when Rachel talked to him about his strengths, more specifically how he gave himself more when he sang from the heart and less with props.
He may not have got to sing a lot but when we did I broke out the tissues...except for pink trucks, I could barely get through that one
Chris Colfer's voice was MADE for Broadway.
This is definitely a top 5 solo from him. So underrated!! Love how they did the entire song too. Fun fact: this is Chris Colfers favorite solo he did because of how well it fit the situation. I don’t know why he always did that jaw thing. Maybe he had a jaw problem and or something. Also I think he opened up more in the recording studio and his lip-synching didn’t match up.
He was insecure about his teeth because the show and fans often mocked them for being small. He has since gotten veneers and I think it would have really helped him a lot with singing back then.
The part where she said he pulls and tucks around the 2:45 mark. You have to really know Kurt and his character to understand that’s a mainstay of his face. He’s not only doing that here. He does this in EVERY performance.
Kurt and the musicals are an amazing combo. In songs from musicals, his voice reveals from the best side. Chris has a lot of insecurities about his voice that he even asked to reduce the number of his songs in the final season, but I'm so glad that he asked to let him sing this song. This fits perfectly with all the character's experiences this season.
Chris got to choose this song for Kurt's return to McKinley and the lyrics fit his storyline so perfectly. His voice is just perfect for this. This is my #1 favorite song from Glee.
This right here is Kurt at his best, kurt does emotional soft songs better than anything else
Literally every dimension of Chris vocal talent and capacity is explored in this number, his low range, his high range, his dynamic range, his phrasing, its all here. But people forget this one.
I love his voice. This is one of my favorite songs by him in Glee.
BEST performance by him
Kurt's musical theatre performances were always so good! I mean... Rose's Turn... We saw so many times, this being one of them that the song selection was holding him back.
I still want "not the boy next door"
it has to be the full version though to get that big high note in the middle
Not sure if it would make sense or not but he is (or was very self conscious about his mouth and teeth, there's videos of him being asked by paparazzi at red carpets to smile and you can hear him say he didn't like his smile which is quite sad. Also about Lauren (the badass character you were asking about), she was unfortunately on Glee very briefly but despite the fact she had minimal screen time with him, her and Chris (Kurt) actually became best friends off screen and are still to this day.
Everytime I hear this song I just think it's a shame he didn't get a single performance solo
Right it angers me that all of the solos went to Rachel when he has this beautiful of a voice! He did get the duet with Blaine at Regionals so I guess that's something
Chris had limited vocal training due to his countertenor range. It was thought his voice would change, and no one would take him on as a client. He is a natural versus “trained” vocalist
this is actually my favorite kurt, it has a lot of emotions and u can definitly feel them through his voice.
this was the first time i heard this song. it's simply MAGICAL. his voice is ... ethereally out of this world! it makes me cry but in a good way. by the way, another MAGICAL song for kurt is 'bring him home' from les mis. (oddly i absolutely adore elaine page but never heard her sing this. i can safely say chris colfer's version is the one i love the most. )
This is one of my favorite Kurt solos. I used to fall asleep to this song because it was so calming and beautiful (I had a list of I think mostly Kurt songs to go to sleep to). This song fits him perfectly. I agree, we really needed more of this. I'll always be pissed at the writers who totally screwed over Kurt's character over the years and didn't give him many songs especially not songs like this.
This songs is amazing!!!! And Chris voice in here is precious!!!
Kurt is one of my favorite characters and chris colfer is absolutely amazing his voice is kind of angelic
This is one of my favorite Chris Colfer performances (and the longest). BTW, are you aware that Chris received a Golden Globe? Also, he is a NYTimes best selling author of 18 mostly children's novels, beginning with a six book series called The Land of Stories. Very talented man!
I think part of the reason Kurt is underutilized and held back until he starts to show glimpses of technical skill in this song is characterization; in the show, he's just come back from Dalton where he'd gone through a bunch of character development and is returning to McKinley a stronger, more confident person - thus the musical direction changes to reflect that growth.
That, and Chris Colfer had gotten more experience and training by that point, combined with the fact that Chris was so young when he first started that his vocal chords hadn't finished developing in the early seasons. On that note, I'd love to see your thoughts on the ways each cast member's voices and technical skills have changed from the first season to the last.
He did get quite a few good solos early on though, he did Rose’s Turn, A House Is Not A Home, Blackbird… so I think they knew what his voice could do but as the show went on they wanted to do more pop music which didn’t fit his voice as well. I don’t know why they had him singing stuff like American Boy when he is so much better at ballads or musical songs
@@ThatRomyKate because Blaine 🙄 the showrunners were so obsessed with DC.
Chris/Kurt sings this emotional song in his amazing tone and what a positive review too!! I'd love to hear you review a cast song Just The Way You Are (season 5) and You Are Not Alone and Love is a Battlefield too

FINALLY YOU ARE GOING TO REVIEW THIS SONG
My all time favourite glee performance, sung it to death when i was 9 and now 23 still in love
Unfortunately, I believe that a lot of viewers made fun of or critiqued Chris for his smile. He seemed to become incredibly self-conscious regarding his smile, especially whenever his teeth were visible. I'm not sure if it was ever mentioned somewhere but there was definitely a change from season 1 and everything after that, even to this day, to a degree; many of his photos or smiles in public don't show his teeth, or at least not as much as during the first season.
yeah, you’re right. he has vertical maxillary deficiency, the opposite problem people have when they show a lot of gum when they smile. basically the length of his skull in the area between his nose and top row of teeth is shorter than the average person.
If u liked this kurt song I recommend either Rose's turn or hold your hand
I like both the pop songs and the Broadway songs. Blackbird is one of my favorites. My youngest child, also, a Beatles fan, prefers Kurt singing Blackbird to Paul McCartney singing it. I think that the vocal coaches on Glee likely have a lot to do with the techniques used. I've heard complaints about the overproduction in the studio and lip synching. The Glee cast performed in concerts, so hearing them sing live might be different. Amber Riley is just as terrific live as she was on the show. I think Chris is still performing, but he is not in the limelight the way that Lea and Darren are.
From what I remember hearing, he's very self-concious about his teeth, so he purposely held his mouth to hide them. I don't know if that happened in the studio recordings to, but in the filmed stuff he purposely did that.
You know that’s probably the reason. He does get more confident and shows his teeth more as the season go on.
This is my favorite Kurt song out of all of them.
"When the teacher is grading her favorite student's test" personified.
there is an unreleased recording of 'seasons of love' that the seniors were meant to sing in season 3 but never happened, you should definitely review that!! it is only a vocal track but it is still so good (and you can compare it to the released version from season 5!)
My favourite!!!!!
Can Review Kurt from glee " le jazz hot"
I doubt that he held his mouth as tight when he actually recorded the songs but his choice when acting was to have Kurt's facial movement when singing certain notes be that way. Very happy that you liked him doing this song.
Here is a video of Chris singing Somewhere Over The Rainbow last year at a fundraiser. If you want to hear him singing something recent and as himself, not as a character. ruclips.net/video/RC8ceuRK3Jk/видео.html
He was very self conscious of his mouth because people would make fun of him for looking "toothless" and I imagine that translated into his performance. He ended up getting veneers a few years back which makes me sad, but I hope he's feeling more comfortable in his skin now.
The directors just couldn’t have anyone outshine Rachel because god forbid! That's why Kurt rarely got solos
Can you do a reaction of a thousand years from glee? ITS SO BEAUTIFUL
Why didn't they let Kurt be his best? Same as Mercedes, or Santana, or Artie, or Tina. They didn't want to take any focus off of the amazing underdogs that were Rachel and Blaine.

Okay, these recommendations are not from Glee, but I would love to see your reaction to Josh Groban and Kelly Clarkson singing All I Ask of You ruclips.net/video/Phzc_ZNBI68/видео.html and a reaction to one of my favorite songs from the TV show Galavant ruclips.net/video/1xHsAMik9VM/видео.html
I fully endorse this comment :)
They always forced Chris Colfer into his falsetto and tried to force this Pop Star aesthetic with his choices. Like Story of My Life, I Have Nothing, Lucky Star; etc etc.
He really shined the brightest when he did Musical Theater ballads. He has a crazy range and Ryan Murphy only cared about the top part.
Kurt's voice is just too much
Ok, this felt liked a Century. I was bored about 1 minute into 😒 Not his Best. I mean, It's Entertainment business regardless ofna the vocals. I understand Kurt liked showtunes but this song Is boring as hell.
Watch Glenn Close, Patti Lupone Betty Buckley and recently (within last month) Stephanie J Block doing this song.....might change your opinion
@@PS-DLMA I'd imagine they manage to make it entertaining but there's a reason they're regarded as great. You see, it's not only about singing well but about entertain throughput.
@@Caprizonica agree....and the performers I mention have also done the role of Norma so seeing (albeit bootleg) in character adds a certain weight
The most laughable shittake I’ve ever heard.
I really disagree with you. He really put emotions in it.
