I lived thru a house fire in 1977 because my parents held "escape" practice in the summer and the winter. My brother and I were both teens and thought it was a hassle for no good reason. Without that practice I would have died from smoke inhalation. If parents love their kids they show it by holding practice evacuations. No if's and's or buts--- knowing how to get out saves even sleepy children from being victims. Thank you, Mom and Dad. I lived because you cared.

I'd love to see links to videos that give pointers to what homeowners can do (especially homeowners that are building new houses) to make their houses more resilient to forest and neighborhood fires (things such as what type of siding to use, removing fuel from the yard, etc.).
