Thanks brother. Much appreciated advice. I just returned to the iLOK world and keeping plugin choices to a minimum for the iLOK. Glad it worked out for you.
The "zero downtime" thing is crazy to me. This should not exist. I am going through a situation where my ilok stopped working. In waiting for a replacement and for Pace to receive the ilok that is not working, it has me in limbo. Most of my temporary licenses work, but those whose statuses are locked, you have to contact the dev (Avid as an example) to transfer the license to the replacement ilok. The point of an ilok is to mitigate piracy, which it is unsuccessful at, but very successful at hassling paying customers. So what's the point of it again? This situation makes me want to stop using every software associated with this dongle. Seriously.
It really has become a racket! I agree, it feels like those of us that try to be honest and not crack plug-ins are paying the price for those that do. Having said all that, I continue to subscribe to zero downtime just to avoid any potential hassle. I wish something would change though!
I;ve had the same iLok for nearly a decade... moved house tonnes of times never lost it. Recently diagnosed with a neurological disorder and have amnesia for the past 3 years. Move in to the new house... found everything imaginable except my iLok..... I'm on a disability pension now... can't afford a new license... gutted
I don't think it's the software companies, I think it's all the engineers that thought it was ok to steal software. The companies really had no choice. If they didn't figure out some sort of software protection, none of them would exist any longer.
You won’t necessarily lose your licenses but you’ll have to contact manufacturers on your own to get replacements. It would be a nightmare so I hope this video helps prevent it from happening 👍🏻
It shouldnt be the job of the consumer to manage and pay for piracy protection like this. There are more alternatives to ilok based software . i see them as a necessary evil for now, but if i see developers making software for ilok and not for ilok i just choose the one that doesnt need an ilok. I'm almost free from ilok
@@SeawellStudios right, because in your situation, you misplaced the ilok. See how you feel when you look after it and it dies. and it didn't just stop working, it caused strange errors thru the system that none of the developers could understand over a few weeks. Also I had sonnox wanting extra money to get their licences going again regardless of zdt. it wasn't my fault but they made it my problem and I had to pay for everything
@@dinguskhan733 I really hate that happened to you! The hope of this video is to let everyone know there's a way to prevent it. I wish there was no need for iLok or any of it, but I'm just trying to provide the best information to work within the system we have.
I have a question I had my safe stolen my ilok was in it, thing is I always used my reason so I used my ignition key from that but when I first purchased my plug ins I had put my autotune on my ilok but never used it because reason doesn’t accept 3rd party plug ins. Well I finally years later got into my ilock account but now my ilok is gone, smh how can I get a new ilok key without spending the 50 bucks?
Sorry to hear that man! I definitely don't see used iLoks pop up for sale regularly so maybe your best bet would be b-stock like this listing to save a little money? reverb.com/item/6453939-pace-ilok-3rd-generation-usb-software-authorization-key
@@MyFeltMusic I hear ya, it's nice that there are a bunch of options out there. I spent some time mixing a project in Studio One a couple of years ago. I'm almost 20 years into Pro Tools at this point so it's too late to teach an old dog new tricks 😂. I agree Pro Tools Native isn't too attractive anymore but I use an HDX system and it is still pretty invaluable for tracking full bands without latency issues.
@@MyFeltMusic it will be interesting to see how the industry evolves over the next decade with UAD and Slate making low latency interface options. They haven't hit HDX specs yet but they are the first to put pressure on Avid in a long time which is a good thing for all of us. I've enjoyed the discussion, thanks for checking out the video here!
I HAAAAAAATE ILOK
It is definitely annoying.

Kind of warm for a baldi hat no?

I'm so sorry to hear that! I'd reach out to iLok directly and see if they can help at all. 🙏🏼
Did not know about TLC.
Thanks !!
You’re so welcome! Thank you for checking out the video.
great video - shared
I really appreciate it, thank you!
I hate the fact that all these software companies put us in situations where this can happen.

So what I'm hearing is if you lose it before buying TLC you're screwed?

In order to protect their own interests, software vendors need to protect their own licenses, which is disgusting.
Next time put an iPhone AirTag on ilok 🔥it could be helped
Unfortunately they didn't exist when I lost mine but that's a great idea moving forward! Thanks for checking out the video.
I computer broke and I lost my old ilok. Had to get a new computer and a new ilok. How can I get all my old licenses on my new ilok?
I’d reach out to ilok to see what they can do! help.ilok.com/faq_rma.html#lost_stolen

That's cool if iLok seems like a burden to you. It doesn't really bother me so I don't mind but definitely to each their own.

Easiest way to avoid freak incidents like this...switch from Pro Tools.
Let me guess....reaper?
Seawell Studios Not my first choice. I’d do Studio One 5. But Reaper is a good option too...both better than PT.

Seawell Studios you’re right...an HDX system makes PT worth the hassle but native is 👎🏾.
