The God that the people made is telling them to keep silent, warning them that the place of the words of the prophets are in the places that are not flashy and no one will listen to them, just like every reform or opposition to tyranny are never in the center and respected. In the Quran it says that when the young boy Abraham argued with his people about worshipping the Gods they carved with their own hands and they were convinced, but they chose to ignore that, and when they decided to throw him in the fire, he said you only took these stones as gods to please each other, and on judgement day you will curse each other. I believe it is the same always with mob mentality, it is hard to stand for the truth especially if there is much to loose.
