This should have been made the Flagship again. It just out flew and outperformed every modern ship in the fleet and single handedly beat the borg in front of the fleet, federation, and Earth. It is truly the greatest ship to bear the name Enterprise.
I like to think that in the year gap at the end, it was put back in full service while the fleet recovered, before going to the museum at the end of the year. 😀
Despite being an older ship the Enterprise D still packs one hell of a wallop. Those old shields held the line and gave the Borg cube one hell of a smack down.
Gods, that classic TNG warp drive sound effect. Well done, man! You just made this badass scene even better! Here's to NCC-1701-D's resurrection and well-deserved retirement!
Taken out by a few torpedoes from a 20 yr out of date defective Bird of Prey. Resurrected 30 years later and as many years out of date to take out the largest Borg structure ever seen with a skeleton crew and limited weapons!
Better looking than most modern federation designs imho. Except the Duderstadt class, that’s gorgeous. Otherwise everything else looks terrible to me. Starfleet seems to have lost all its creativity - “ooh let’s just redo the constellation, excelsior, and constitution classes but jazz em up a bit…”
Can you imagine being on one of the StarFleet ships crippled by Spacedock, having been asimilated, and then being beamed off as a survivor to find yourself in Transporter Room 3 of the Grand Old Lady, the reborn Enterprise-D under the command of Capt Jean-Luc Picard?! What a day that would have been.
Galaxy class starship rule. Its look, design and firepower. I remember the first time watching TNG and seeing the phaser strip was used. Star Trek DS9 Sacrifice of the Angles is still one of my battle favorite scenes.
Overall I think the Enterprise E is a better looking ship but the Enterprise D is Star Trek and has been with us trek fans significantly longer and will therefore have a bigger place in our hearts.
I totally agree and I think the plot where the Enterprise D was destroyed was so poorly written, I mean even without shields the Enterprise D would have no problem with an old Bird of Prey. But it became all the more sentimental when she was allowed to come back to life again
It was pretty much the theme of the end of the season. Everything young and new was corrupted and useless. Only the older Starfleet crew and oldest operational ship could save the galaxy. Quite fitting!
I have to admit, I think TMP is one of the best TOS movies and the travel pod scene where the refit Enterprise is revealed is one of the best in the film. I was lucky enough to see the new edition of the movie in the cinema recently - that scene on the big screen was awesome 🖖🏽

I didnt like all the "Old shields, old weapons dialog" since an old ship can easily be refitted with modern weapons and equipment but otherwise this was near perfect scene and moment.
Definitely. And the galaxy class was supposed to have a 100 year lifespan according to the technical manual. Looks like they were _all_ retired after what, 40 years? The galaxy spaceframe could have been the backbone of Starfleet until well into the 25th century with upgrades etc.
@@leonrobinson8180 I wonder whether the torpedoes he had the drones load into the bay were upgraded? It doesn’t make sense for Starfleet to have a load of 2370s torpedoes lying around. Those photons must have been 2400s models. Which suggests that photon torpedoes haven’t really changed design wise. So I don’t think it really matters that Geordi hadn’t worked on the weapons systems because really all he could have done was upgrade the ship to fire quantum and possibly transphasic torpedoes. The photons the 1701-D actually had on board did the job nicely - that speaks more to how good the design of the ship herself is, rather than the need for state of the art weaponry.
Geordi restored her. He didn't update her. In fact, he restored her in part to a state prior to how she was in Generations. (The S7 bridge vs the Generations bridge) Since the bridge modules are swappable, it is likely that Geordi took a bridge from another Galaxy ship as he did the Drive section of the Syracuse.
@@76TomD I reckon that’s the Syracuse bridge tbh. There are some discrepancies between the s7 bridge and this one - which I think can only be explained by saying it’s a whole different bridge module as you suggest 👍🏼

Completely agree. For me, the D is “the Enterprise”.
They should have given it the "all good things" refit and made it the enterprise g. That would have been a great final
