Floor blew everything out of the water live versus other singers on this list sang in studio. Show any of the singers off live against Floor Jansen. You metal heads know, live is where it counts.

Tatiana is my all time favorite. I also really like Cammie Gilbert - Oceans of Slumber. She has a beautiful voice. One that I recently discovered is Emily Armstrong from Dead Sara. I heard the song Weatherman but It's not metal. Its more or less hard rock but she has a very nice harsh tone and rasp that sounds really cool to me. I think she could sing metal very effectively if she ever chose to.
I always dreamed Alissa WG and Floor singing the Beauty and the Beast...
Honestly when I first heard people talking about Floor Jansen, I didn't think much of it, and even my one manager at work said people refer to having what's known as a Floorgasm when they listen to her sing. When I listened to her for the first time...she's the embodiment of a music goddess. Some videos out there where they compared her against talentless pop stars singing covers of the same song and these poppies fall flat at their limits, Floor just takes it to another level.
The best examples... "Shallow" or "Into the unknown"

@@timur9546 I have and she is very talented and the song you refer to I do prefer above floor's or Tarja's but in all fairness she does studio recordings in an ideal situation which is different than standing on a stage with 90k audience prefroming live with no autoqueu.
Natalia though as she mentioned herself is not a rock or for that matter symphonic metal singer and the song she has done just suited her voice.
My vote for Alissa White-Gluzz! Amazzing frontwoman! She is Unmatched!

I love so many of the other singers on this list (arch enemy is my favorite band) but Floor is just otherworldly. I've been lucky enough to see Nightwish live with her and it will absolutely bring you to tears. She's a once in a lifetime talent

People miss this point, favourite means something more than octave range, breath holding, etc. that’s a technical appraisal. Floor does everything it’s really high level. But it’s the character of her voice that makes her my favourite singer in general.

Really, all of Nightwish's female vocalists (and Marco when he sings!) are great, each in their own way. But Floor is absolutely my favorite of the lot. She's every bit as amazing live as she is in on the pre-recorded album, too!
I'm so glad you included Britney Slayes from Unleash the Archers on here. She's amazing, and I don't think she gets as much recognition as she deserves.
Suggested additions: Kobra Paige (Kobra and the Lotus), Angela Gossow (Arch Enemy's singer before Alissa came in from The Agonist), Noora Louhimo (Battle Beast)

I would've put Lzzy Hale and Maria Brink into the official list, personally, but that's just my opinion on the list. That is one hell of a line-up no matter what order any of it goes. These are all some amazingly talented performers.

To be fair, Lzzy isn't metal, she's more hard rock but still has a phenomenal voice nonetheless. But I agree with Maria Brink, especially with her song In Between

oooo, nice visual effect on Tati's last scream. Basically how my brain felt when I first heard it. She melted my face off in the best way possible. I love Tatiana and think she's the best vocalist in metal now. But it's so refreshing to find a dope ass band nowadays where all members are experts in their craft.

And for me, who loves singing like Floor or Brittney Slayes ("TEST YOUR METAAAAL"!) is just boring pop singing.

I'm a 68 year hard rock / metal lover ( I still play it, keeps me young) In 2011 I watched a documentary series called " metal evolution" And one of the sub genres
was power metal and and it was for me the first time i'd heard Nightwish with Tarja , then skip to 2020. i'm locked down and for the first time I heard
"ghost love score" live Buenos Aires and Wacken Open air , with Floor Jansen, I was brought to tears.

I was listening to Ghost Love Score earlier this year when my 7 year old daughter came in and took the headphones from me to have a listen. She demanded I start it from the beginning and she was literally quivering listening to this. Completely enthralled by the raw power and majesty of this performance.

I started to listen to Nightwish when I was Four! I am nine now and can NEVER forget the moment when Floor Jansen waved at me in the concert! It really was amazing! P.S my favourite song is currently Last ride of the Day

I'm well represented here. I'm of Dutch heritage and am a Canadian citizen. I've seen Lee Aaron lots of times and partied with her back in the eighties. However, everyone of the nine are amazing talents. I'd pick Floor as my favourite but just my opinion.
@SergioSBloch & @Jack Haveman, Lee Aaron - the original Canadian metal queen. My dad’s company did work for the band. Met Lee several times in an everyday situation. Really nice person.

Just wanna say I loved Nightwish back in the day, but kinda fell off with Anette. But Floor is amazing!
Side note, I was shocked when I saw that Jinjer was using the same vocalist for the rough vocals. I'd only heard them in passing before. But it was like a switch when she changed from normal to rough. Excellent.

Love this list. And yup. Gotta put Floor Jansen as #1 and you used the perfect video for that example of why. Her voice can bring out so emotion and that one gets me every time
I am so happy someone finally put Unleash the Archers on one of these lists. I know they are a newer player in the metal scene, but they are absolutely incredible, and Brittany Hayes' voice is absolutely perfect for their sound.

All VERY great, but Floor is on another level. Nightwish has been blessed to have two of the top 5 or so female leads of all time. Brittney should be higher IMHO though. Hard to nail this down to just 10. Old school, but I'd put Doro Pesch, Otep Shamaya, Cristina, Kobra Paige, etc on this list, but the list has to have an ending somewhere.
Nice selection, you have good taste, and yes, Floor has the most amazing voice I have ever heard, multi talented, powerful and diverse, she could sing anything she wanted, really well, we should be thankful she chose metal! 😎

I love how every other comment, almost every, mentions floor jansen.. since I heard her voice she has stolen the #1 spot for my favorite and will never be replaced. No female vocalist like her. She's a masterpiece in every way
Nightwish kicks ass with Floor Jansen, but I still prefer Tarja's voice. To each his own. PS... I love AC DC with Brian, but will always prefer Bon Scott. Also, Van Halen with Sammy rocks, but the songs I love best were with David Lee Roth as frontman.

Floor is just unreal, passion range and talent, that being said there are just to many amazing singers to have a top 10, they all sing in different styles and different genres, besides you're missing some of the greats, Anneke van Giersbergen, Cristina Scabbia, Lzzy Hale, Sharon den Adel, Angela Gossow, Anette Olzon, Charlotte Wessels and Otep Shamaya, and that's just to name a few there are just to many out of this world talented ladies in metal to have a top 10.
Don't forget maria bringing dont care what people say but she goes hard every show who cares id she does stage performances and all cuz I see alot of people trying to say she's trying to hard to be Madonna no its called art so let her do her thing lol she's still pretty talented and very metal lol

Gotta give Lzzy Hale and Maria Brink some love. I have been a Nightwish fan since 2008 and thought it was all over after Tarja left. Annette was good and in my opinion fronted their best album. After watching Floor in Wacken I knew every other female metal singer was playing for second place. All of these ladies are talented but Floor Jansen can go out on stage and do things that others can’t do in a studio.

@@boxychubbo6922 Hi, I know that comparing Tatiana and Flor or Tari singing is pointless and I didn't meen to do it. I don't treat metal singing as a kind of "Voice of... competition". I could put on the same level Ronnie James Dio who definitelly had one of the greatest voice in metal and Tom Araya who doesn't really do anything like singing. I gave male voices example because I am not really listen to female metal bands. When I am in mood to hear a beatifull female voice I would rather choose from one of my favorite Rock or sometimes classical music singer. What I tried to emphasized was that Tatiana's mixture of charisma, deep growl and natural singing ability should put her on any of "Metal Frontwoman" list. On which place depends really from personal taste.

There's a lot of well known singers on this list I have a singer from a small band that deserves to be on a list like this. She is certainly in my top 10. Fans of her band call her a siren or banshee. I am talking about Zora from Blackbriar an amazing Dutch band. Good songs from them that really show her amazing vocals: Cry Of A Banshee, Arms Of The Ocean, The Seance and as a treat Ready To Kill. Their first song so they were still finding their sound. It's the only song where Zora screams ^-^.

Honestly I preferred Tarja with Nightwish over Floor but I am somewhat bias cuz I've been listening to them since the early 2000's so I got quite used to Tarja but man Floor has got some great range I'll give her that. Love me some Arch Enemy with Alissa or formerly Angela. Both can equally do the job as lead singer in that band. :)
Floor is the ultimate Nordic Viking angel goddess of all time. No other human can sing like floor. She was sent to earth to show us mortals what heaven sounds like. The other singers are great. There is only one floor. The true vocal goddess of all. Period

Of the singers in the video (and runners up), my personal favorite. My own list would tilt pretty heavily Japanese, topped by Fuyuki "Fuki" Tenge (Unlucky Morpheus, Doll$Boxx), but I enjoyed this good list.
In Japan, a lively metal scene has been established in recent years with female bands that are extremely worth listening to, such as LOVEBITES (played Wacken 2018), NEMOPHILA (relatively new) and HANABIE, all with excellent female vocalists. Also highly recommended are BAND-MAID, DOLL§BOXX, BRIDEAR, MARY'S BLOOD and many more.
Huge band-maid and lovebites Fan here although i really do not consider them metal so to speak :/

Not metal like i regard classic metal, but maybe they have some heavy metal aspects? Tbh when i listened to them i wasnt instantly thinking metal. You know what i mean? But rather something like heavy rock/kinda metalish or something..i get what ya mean and you could make a point for them being a metal Band but thats the way i see it..may be wrong tho or maybd havent listened to all of their stuff 🤷♂️ they even give me kinda a power "metal" vibe sometimes so yeah could say metal.. dunno tbh...or f.e. @@colmerator Mostly saying not all metal is scream hell satantic worshipping grind core crap. I hear so much Iron Maiden and Dragon Force here. I think people consider Black sabbeth and Ozzy music to be metal and that's some weak stuff compared to else is out there. They are technique talented solo driven metal. Way too fast to be just considered prog rock in my book.
Would've liked Anna Murphy of Cellar Darling and Eluveitie to have been mentioned. Incredibly versatile with her voice.

Tarja vocal goddess,, siren, and all around symphonic metal queen; still going strong today!! Influenced Simone Simons (adopted Tarja's style ), If it wasn't for Tarja there would be no Nightwish; she put them on the map.. Floor keeping the group global.
Nightwish has a great band composition with all being outstanding musicians. It is wonderful to see them rightfully twice in such a list. Tarja helped a lot to grow the audience and is a wonderful singer. I believe Floor helped Tuomas and the band to try out a greater variety in songs, which enriched the pallette of their music. Floor is undoubtfully the No. 1 now.
All others are also great, especially Tatjana and Simone. Within Temptation actually also belongs in this list. Anyway, I didn't know all of these bands, but I will try some of them.

I really like Alissa White-Gluz and Tarja. Beautiful women, obviously, awesome voices. Floor Jansen looks and sounds like she might be a valkyrie straight out of Norse mythology. Wow. 🤘

It’s interesting that pretty much all of these phenomenal singers come from three places: Scandinavia (including Finland), the Netherlands, and Canada, even if you include some other greats like Sharon Den Adel, Cristina Scabia, Cobra and the Lotus, Delain, and Annette, every one except Cristina are from those three places.

Floor is a given. All of the others are absolutely amazing... Good picks... I would be hard pressed to not have Sharon Den Adel from Within Temptation somewhere too... but I get it - Personal lists. Amy Lee too, but she isn't metal, and is (my opinion) just not quite as versatile as those listed. Frankly, every single one gives me chills... but Floor, well, I have loved her voice since After Forever and ReVamp of yore...
