  • It's that time of year again - homeschool standardized testing time! Every spring I see moms with tons of questions about testing. In our state, we have to test our students and keep them on file. I'll give you all the details about how we administer our CAT exam to our kids.

@@mandy-maltz I'm watching thinking, at least there's one parent who knows what the hell she's talking about finally. I started feeling a bit less worried about potentially pulling him the rest of the year. We've had some issues that I am likely taking, jointly with my friend who is a Texas senator, to the senate proposing critucal policy changes. I really liked the school at first & kind of still do however, found out it is a lot like other schools in that some parents are Gatsby about incidents they were not involved in, administrators/principal/vp believe their interpretation of parental care of, concern for & involvement with their child is the Gospel etched in stone whether it is accurate or not. Anyway, I started thinking, ok maybe I DO have a decent grasp on being able to do this without causing him educational setback THEN heard you say you were a teacher & have a bachelor's degree. I thought, well hell, there goes that because I certainly don't have that. I made terrible decisions After High School and am only now in my college years. I will say, you are the only homeschooling parent who published a video with actually helpful information instead of some rich at home mom with an overly bubbly annoying personality talk about how you can do this to don't you worry you got this but mostly generalizing when explaining about the curriculum in house she's has structured or handled homeschooling. Maybe that's a sign that I should keep him in school because you were a teacher at one point clearly know how to properly explained education related procedure etc. I just hate there are still barely 2 months before the school year ends. I've been applying to private schools and am unrealistically hopeful, justifying to myself something will work out even though it likely won't.
      Thank you for your time,

I was wondering if the academy school my daughter wants to attend is asking for CAT results would the academic excellence cat test (untimed) be acceptable? I give her the untimed to keep the stress levels low for her. I also have a Bachelors Degree and home school her for now.

I am doing the test in a few weeks with my 3rd grader. We used Masterbooks from the beginning so year 4 we are in...
He took the practise test this morning and had trouble with the wording. Since we HS and not train for the test it's so annoying because I know he knows most things but the wording gets him. Ugh
I also can't figure out how to grade it. We used the printed version.

  • @melissacox7075

So the CAT test sets your kids up to not know all the information on the test. If they just finished second grade they finished learning the information for a second grader not a third grader

Anyone else in Oregon and have a 2nd grader with ADHD? 😣 she’ll need to take a 3rd grade test here next summer and y’all I’m just worried. She needs me alot to walk her through her work so I’m worried about how she’ll do. Are there any practice tests any one suggest? ♥️♥️♥️

Hello, have you ever heard of the Woodcock Johnson? If not ask your homeschool evaluator about it. It’s state approved and a much more gentler approach. This is the test our evaluator used to test my son who’s dyslexic and my niece who’s dyslexic and adhd.

I only have hindsight, I didn't know I was ADHD until my 30's. So I learned early on to power through and simply work 2x as hard in order to be "normal"! Maybe call it the "ADHD tax". I really worry I walk my kids through too much, they are probably ADHD but undiagnosed. I am going to start making a bigger effort to step away.

If I purchased Grade 3 at the end of 3rd, will it be ok since it will show grade equivalency? Also, what about special needs kids? My daughter used to have all test questions read to her in school. Do I just do that for her with the online program?

    • @mandy-maltz

Love the video .. thanks a lot , may I ask you please when is usually the timing of the tests ? I mean when do we usually have to do the test ? My son is in grade 3 and we live in Pennsylvania... I’m confused as I see there is a lot of timing like I have to do it before March 31 and another is at the end of July 31 .. shall we do it anytime for grade 3 ? And can we do two tests ? I mean test for grade 3 and grade 4 if he passes grade 3 ? Sorry for all those questions I’m new and usuallly tests worries me ..🙏we didn’t do tests last year when he was grade 2 for grade 3 cause it wasn’t required last year due to the COVID thing .. oh my god I feel so confused .

Also you have to give the results to your evaluator. The last day to hand in ALL your paperwork is June 30th... so I do the evaluation in the beginning of June and then hand in everything by the middle of June.
