Digging that bongo technique! And, the first I’m seeing Cartman is a shaker. All intermediate drummers should watch this video. Hitting all those partial trips against a pulse feels so good when you get right. You briefly mentioned “with your bandmates and what’s going on”. My immediate thoughts went to swinging triplets more and how as a drummer I have to pay a lot of attention to driving swung grooves. Goofing around with folks, it’s hard for amateur players to stay in their swung groove. If you wanna jam and make people sound good, you listen, catch and adapt.
Cheers Jason, as a total music amateur I really enjoyed your breakdowm and followed along despite missing some points. I remember how often I got to hear that tresillo-inspired beat in many hit songs in the 2010s and, of course, I tried to reenact them on the go in my head but that wasn't tuning well. You really made it clear with bango and the scores, so thank you and take care!
Great lesson Jason! Gotta try this on fingerstyle guitar with the thumb playing triplets and the fingers keeping the chord/melody in the pulse.. or vice verse! Thank you for these lessons!
Thanks Anish! That was the main intention. The lesson is intended for any instrumentalist/musician! Hence, decided to teach it primarily on the Bongos! Go for it and please share the video with your fellow musicians
Jason, what rhythm are you playing for the Lambada song in the beginning on the Abmaj7 chord? I think its still the Tresillo in the LH but I'd love to make my RH sound like that
I am following the first triplets in the video, i managed to do it but i can’t say 1234 at the same time, but only say 123 123 , does anyone has this happening?, it’s making me unsecured about my ability to grow as musician. Thx!

Very helpful, thank you. A request for a tutorial on ‘polyrhythm or not’ given that cleverly written syncopations can sometimes sound as polyrhythms. Example: ruclips.net/video/WGPUJMke1kk/видео.htmlsi=wmGlVQ2liL2W2WrX

Yeah Simon. I think it's the Tresillo!
Did I understand correctly, that dotted quavers and polyrhythm 3:4 are the same? the only difference is the way of transcription. Am I correct?
Yes Lisa. If you keep using Dotted notes, they divide the beat structure into 3 units against a possible 2 or 4 which creates the polyrhythm!
Man, these rhythms are tough. Any suggestions on how I can practise them to become better ?
Yes. This is part of my advanced rhythm concepts. Can you start here: www.nathanielschool.com/free-lessons/tags/rhythm-practice
Incredibly clear explanation, thank you!
You're very welcome Edward 🙏🏼
MUITO BEM EXPLICADO. OBRIGADA.
Thanks a ton Sonia!

hemiola vs syncopado. which is better?
I guess both are different concepts no? Hemiola is a Polyrhythm (3:2) while Syncopado using off time beats to build the phrase
great video indeed, MR Jason am in Africa Namibia developing country, how do you help people in Africa to learn piano.
