Beautiful, beautiful Jaguar XKE! Wonderful presentation and magnificent photography. I know you must enjoy driving it!! Back in 1971 my Dad bought a five year old 1966 series one Jaguar XKE coupe that had been imported to New Orleans from Spain. He bought it for $2,800.00 cash at the time. These Jags sold new for about $7,000, a little more than a new 1966 Corvette Stingray. The Jaguar had the 4.2 litter engine that was race tuned for competition. Nothing on the street could touch it. I was 17 at the time and got to use the car frequently because my Dad wanted to use my new Honda CB450. So we would trade for the afternoon now and then. Good thing I got that Honda because he never let me drive the Jag before that. The car was unbelievably fast. No one believed me when I told them how fast it was. They wanted to race! I took on everything including all the big hemi Cudas, Dodge Chargers, Chevy Camaros, Ford Mustangs, everything. Blew them all away with ease. Some of them were quick accelerating but I would easily hang with them side by side to well over 120 and when they were finished burning rubber and fish tailing all over, and after they were all gassed out, I would push to 150 or even 160 and leave them in my dust. That 4.2 Jaguar would do 120 in third gear smooth as silk! I later had a 911S Porsche that beat all those muscle cars too but the Jaguar XKE was faster on the top end by quite a bit. The Porsche was race tuned as well but only managed 135. Yes, I have heard braggerts claim that a hemi Cudas can do 135 but I know beyond a doubt that they cannot or I couldn't have beaten them in my Porsche so easily. After the races these Muscle Car contenders would scratch their heads wondering how my much smaller displacement Porsche beat them so soundly. If you don't believe me ask Jay Leno.about his 63 XKE versus muscle cars, and his engine is merely a 3.8. In my view the Series One Jaguar XKEs are magnificent racing cars for the track or street right from the factory. Look at one up close when you have the chance. Everything from the tubular chassis, rear end with inboard disc brakes, knock off wheels, tilting front bonnet, dual overhead cam, triple carb engine, the list is endless. Then check out the handling. The Jaguar is fairly friendly even at 150+. Only the Porsche handles better (much better I must add), but my Porsche lacked power by comparison. My Dad and I got several speeding tickets between us which lead to selling the XKE. My Dad had wrecked the Jag trying to pass eight cars at one time but had to take the ditch after misjudging his distance. Even though the ditch was shallow and soft the car was substantially damaged asthetically. Insurance fixed the car and it was good as new. I begged my Dad to sell it to me but he was afraid that I might get killed in it. Money plus the cost of servicing and maintenance was also a factor. It sold for $2,800 so all our fun was free. My Dad later bought a 1969 XKE roadster but it was an ice wagon compared to the 1966. It was detuned using Stromberg carbs instead of the much greater SU carbs. Although I drove it many times I never had any desire to own it. With the open headlights, giant taillights, giant bumper guards and the split exhaust pipes it looked ghastly by comparison, so when also adding lack luster performance it was a non keeper for me. Incidentally, speaking for myself, I never endangered anyone driving that fast. It was always on open clear Interstate highway with no one else in sight but the person running against me. The races we had seldom lasted more than one half minute! I cannot speak for the safety practices of my Dad since evidence in taking that ditch stands against him. But he is gone now and cannot defend himself, no one was hurt so we can give him the benefit of the doubt. Incidentally, a nice properly restored Series One Jaguar XKE brings over $100,000 routinely today so we should have kept that car! It was a great privilege to drive it, see it and touch it. Such great memories it produced.

By far the most beautifully designed sports car of its time. All around independent suspension what a great design. Streamlined and a very powerful engine. Fun to drive. Last time l had a ride in one was in the early 70's. Like you said Lou no sway when going around corners. Huge fan of the XKE's. You made my day! Thank you for sharing.

A great video! So many people now appreciating the old classics and getting them restored. The E-Type was an iconic design and much like the American Corvette, now appreciated. Thankfully, many people are now employed in fabricating replacement panels, workshops for the engines etc so that all these vehicles can be restored and the original problems sorted out.

I have had the pleasure of owning Jaguars for over 40 years. This is a beauty. One of my present ones is a 66 Etype OTS. I have gone over my Etype thoroughly, inside and out and I have yet to find the term xke, which it is not.
