- The immense growth of esports in recent years has made millionaires out of some of it’s greatest players - and at ages far younger than most would imagine possible.
We decided to take a closer look at the distribution of total lifetime esports tournament earnings across countries and games, specifically: League, Dota 2 and CS:GO. Keep in mind these numbers are tournament winnings ONLY.

Note: Imagine how much money is earned when you add salary, sponsors, merchandise, and fan donations on streams...
In China, most of the players earn the majority of their income from streaming(that includes fans gifts and deal with streaming platform). Some of the retired players also have online store where they sell apparels, peripherals and snacks. Two famous example will be Misaya, former WE captain, and PDD, former IG top lane player. They have contract with streaming platform that worth over millions of dollar each year. Combined with fans gifts and online store income, they can afford the most luxurious and expansive things like Aston Martin and villas in China.
Dan Xu
This video only summed the amount earned by tournaments
I am just stating the fact.
Dan Xu this is true everywhere, top twitch streamers are millionaires
Imo this doesnt say anything at all, considering its only tourny winnings and thats not the majority of earnings by players
FullscreenFilms well the video did specify tourney winnings only. It's impossible to check all the collective earnings of a player since sponsorships, streaming revenue, salaries and broadcasting events are mainly kept private. I do know that the most popular players are in most cases millionaires.
Then there is no use for this video is it? Or it should be called:
"How much prizes were given out to players in esports tournaments & who won the most"
But yea, thats isnt attractive and wont get views. There are large differences between the games on how its main leagues are run, its not accurate at all how much money esports players make.
It will just result in argument between communities of each game
Marco Lostaunau Well, imp said It, he has enough money to live his entire Life, imagine how much money faker has xD
I mean does it really matter if you make money as a pro player? You are living with your team and getting food aswell with you paying very little or none
Omar Ahmad And then, when you retire?
But what about salary earnings? Wasn't it believed that Faker is making $2.5 MILLION on his contract with SKT this year?
at the start of the video it said that these are tournament money only
+Mc Fusiak of course, I watched the video, I'm just trying to supplement the "conversation" going on.
Brendan Geormer also salaries are all specilation, they never release the official number because of privacy
Brendan Geormer actually 3.5mil
but Samsung does support SKT with housing, chef, food, clothing, coaches, travel money, etc. So most SKT players keep all the prize money plus sponsorships, advertisment, and salary contract Samsung. So I wouldn't be surprised if faker has more than 3 million
dude PLeaseeeeee do more of these video's, the economic value and statistic and the way you explain is outstanding !!!
if valve would care for CS half as much as dota the prizepools of CS majors would have been 10millon dollars+, its a shame
Base is 1.6 mil but yes, you are correct - Dota2 as a whole is generally more profitable
While I agree their tournaments need more prize money, players are given an undisclosed but apparently high amount from sticker capsules. This extra money supports pros in general instead of a select few.
dota released a compendium that players can buy and 25% goes to the price pool
why dont they do the same with CS? there are more diehard CS fans than dota fans, so the prizepool would been huge if they made a compendium for CS awell..
All i can say is that a compendium for CS would be profitable for valve, not to the same level as dota Maybe, but still high. so i think its worth a try atleast. U need to remember that CS has a huge fanbase in Dubai, Qatar etc.. and those fuckers arent shy with their money use either.
It made me proud of my country- Poland :)
701 tournaments with 96 million while League has 38 million with 1837 tournaments. lmao
Simple Reason, VALVE funds DOTA2
Dota 2 community funds to prizepool while valve only contributes 1mill you pleb
Justin Nunag Where do you think Riot get's their money pleb?
While the prize pool is HUGE for Dota 2, the player salary in league crushes Dota. Fakers contract is 2.5 mil this year.
TheThunderkatana if that's true then it's probably out on the news by now.....
#Fakenews
1:50 country looks like a baby dinosaur lol
Typhoon GG LOL 😂
HAHAHAH idk why this made me laugh so hard
Bruh
Lol
Dinosaur? More like a sitting dog lmao
Hello theScore esports. Could you please tell me what software you used to make this movie?
These are tournament winnings, although I understand that this excludes the salaries and sponsorship because, well, they're not that publicly given unlike price pools.
Wouldn't a better video title be about the prize pools of esports tournaments?
Brendan Geormer You're right, but this one will garner much more clicks because of its simplicity in my opinion.
Can we get a song list you guys use for this video?
sources of revenue by order of importance: player salaries > sponsorship money > 3rd party ventures (streaming, community influencer, etc) > tournament winnings.
Looks like it's time to practice
hehe boi
@@haider3495 shit I forgot to practice, damn
@@interferancegamingif you practice from time your comment, you would be pro player by now 😂
Universe still underrated
can i have the song list? @theScore esports
Damn near a 5 million dollar difference in 1 year
How much does the team management get if they won a tournament?.
How much does the average player make now counting tournament wins?
The most money is made by sponsorship not prizes. As longer you are present in top (50) rankings as long you can make money on regular base via sponsorship. You dont need to necessarily win to make money, tho!
DotA 2 players earn much more because Valve has created a self growing price pool (with +X% to price fome battle pass). Riot could do the same but I guess they are too greedy for that step.
You're assuming players are actually getting these prizes. The org they are employees of win those prizes, and I very much doubt that these prizes are split equally to the actual players. Yeah they probably get a nice bonus, but just splitting these sums is a huge assumption.
Shroud mentioned that he made about 25k a month playing for C9, so they make a really nice living (until ~32, then it's back to streaming, coaching etc..)
Evil Geniuses success at the two most recent TIs? They placed the same at TI4 as they did last TI so make that 3
Now, the whole OG squad dominates them
gaming is not going to be useful they said
gaming is for nerds with no talent they said
ITS UNIVERSE ITS A DISSSTAAAAAAAA
we love Gaben Newell. he made us proud!!! Kappa
Faker not alot of prize money but probably the richest gamer from sponsorship and streaming
isn't it 99 million million with the Kiev major just now and wouldn't it almost be 100 million in the summer?
Yep and valve will change the Dota 2 logo if they reach 100 million prize pool
can you back up your data? sources?
CS players get tonnes from sponsors as well, something I don't see as much from MOBAs
Look back through the video, the teams from the MOBAs seem to have no sponsors on their shirts.
Great, you picked a 3 year old Jersey from a not so good team in those days vs the best Dota team in the world, see fnatic
He said how much they make in tournaments. most of Korean league teams are big companies in South Korea like Samsung Jin air skt and kt if they were to add the contracts that they make of the companies to it faker would have probably made more money
Money,Money,Money,Money,Money.
MONEY🤑🤑🤑
I am pretty sure if we include contract league would be on top since every one on skt make over 1 million dollars on just contracts alone. that just one team
Kai ouk lol. 1 million is just the reward for being champ for some dota tourneys. ur making me laugh man.
Faker is by far the richest in all gaming he makes mad money and most of the money in tournaments go to the people who own the team and about half is taken out due to taxes
Get in another 6000 hours on Dota and I may be able to get into it
I really need to find a popular game in good at
Ya... Faker makes a lot more than that... He's supported by a very big telecom company in Korea.
Didnt philippines win DOTA 2 ALSO?
1 min ago: Papa i want to be a doctor!!
now: Fuck off who cares doctors ill sit on my chair and claim 2m dollars whats more easy than this?
League, Dota and CS? wheres Quake?
Ahh, Quake.
Damn dude, you can click on a Nexus really fast.
HOLY SHIT THAT RAIL FROM RAPHA! I ALMOST DIDNT SEE IT IT WAS SO FAST!
So they say Faker had the better income when it comes to contracts, sponsorship, and advertisements, so how much Pewds make a year? his a gamer too
you know who makes the most in League? That's QTpie
Wildcard if that's true probably out on the news by now
no because twitch earnings are not released to the public. A lot of people have guessed over the years. including Scarra. If you look at consistent viewerships and also who put the most time into twitch he's one of the biggest twitch streamers.
And also pros don't make as much as you think in league. the top earners are top teams obviously. but there is a lot of underpaid pros out there, even with the better teams. luckily riot are trying to work better for teams but still what they have done hasn't done so much.
How can it be that Dota players take home 85% of the total price pool, yet League players only got less than 48%?
Jennifer R it's talking about the top earners, so in other words in league the pool is a lot more distributed, and in DotA it's more focused on the winning team
orangecode *focused on the big teams winning big tournaments
Wait wat?
isnt this whole video and website just useless speculations of what would the numbers be if team itself never took any of the winnings and they were shared equally to all players?
The Disrespect to console Esports is over 9000
Soooo much MATH!!!!!!!
too many numbers omg
This is only tournament winnings. This is like saying Lebron James only makes money from winning an NBA championship
So it's far less than football players
I'm interested in if riot increased their prize pools (let's be honest they won't cause they're greedy fucks, 25% of championship zed sales LUL), if the Chinese talent would move to League. China's league teams are lacking but I'm sure it's because there's much more money to be made in pro dota.
monkey220ms Riot is focused on providing a sustainable competitive scene through salaries rather than raising the price pool or crowd sourcing
LoL players outnumbers Dota2 Players about 10x or 20x but Dota2-96 LoL-38 ? Wtf ?
faker gets 3m every year from his company
Dota 2 is real
knowing they make this much money if better start training
but this isn't what they're owning..
Lol just play your game. If you enjoy it just enjoy it.
I dont see Shroud in top paid player *in csgo*
lol just enjoy the game don't think about the money
It's their job lol so they have to care about money
Guys come on, why no one talking about cs:go in this comment section. Everyone talking about LoL and Dota2 lmao
#nohate
Better stay out of this childish dota vs lol fight.Actually looking at their community we should be laughing
Reason why dota 2 top all because their community invest money buying skin, loot crate and ticket, certain percentage are cut from the transaction to price pool. now didnt LoL sell skin? or hero, Where the money go?
Dota2 gives more and more money each yearn other hand league gives less and less money each year...
This just settled the case that KR > CHINA > NA> TAIWAN > EU LUL eu blows
resetedanchorpure well top 100 Most earning EU players come from Dota2 and Csgo, plus Dota2's player pool is just so diverse compared to the other game, the only full nationality team you'll see these days are Chinese teams(mostly). So maybe it's just in LoL that Eu players suck ass
3 m dollar in a year fakers income
theScore esport pls don't make video that show dota 2 batter than lol becoz korean are very mad now
Faker the god
Geez what the fuck with that background music shit. tone it down
EU :(
Extremely misleading title...
1uki
Now calculate in the earnings for chinese streamers and beginn to cry :D
wanna make money? go play dota 2
tbh...dota 2 and lol are famous in poor country bcuz those games are free...lel
if i wanted to be a pro player, I will play dota 2 instead..ez money...
misleading title, dislike. that's a simple research to find out the tournament prizes. i expected more about the earnings from teams, streaming, sponsorships etc.
u stupid? contracts and salaries are private documents. Esport earnings are transparent facts.
The Disrespect to console Esports is over 9000
Console Esports LUL
Freddy apex of course no one would care about Console eSports, yes maybe the next big tournament is 500k but that's just exclusive to(but not limited to) NA players. All participants are either American/Canadian. And it's not even that big of a game, it's popular sure, but it's a smattering compared to PC players, even though console is much cheaper, no ones gonna spend $60 on a game to try and be good at it then earn so little compared to other games that you can get for free
