  • Today, a special tribute to the "New York Boy", the glorious Neil Diamond, on being honoured with a spectacular show about his life, titled "A Beautiful Noise Musical". The show opened yesterday (4 December 2022) on Broadway at the Broadhurst Theatre, New York. Neil has come a long way from his Brooklyn days and achieved and crossed many milestones, remaining popular worldwide throughout his musical journey.
This video is but my modest attempt to add to the honour given to him which to say is well-deserved is almost like an understatement. I have taken the liberty of adding a shot from the opening night when Neil was himself present and sang a few lines from... what else but his signature song "Sweet Caroline".
However, I chose this song (New York Boy) instead of say "Beautiful Noise" or any other because I felt that the title somehow brings home the essence of Neil's story, which started in New York.

Thank you so much!! So glad you feel cheerful listening to the song. Neil's songs are usually more serious, but when he does one like this, he nails it too :)

Very nice video indeed! A very old song which I always liked. Impecable sense of opportunity with the scenes of the play. I didn't attend but have seen so many photos and seen so many videos, it was almost as if... but not quite, helas!
    Thank you!

Hi Joanna, thank you for your comment! Yes, it's a very old song which I used to listen to on vinyl as a young Neil fan long ago (last year of school). And yes, "making" :) these videos as I do, I couldn't help grabbing the priceless opportunity of using a shot of him singing at the show :) So sorry that you might be having a twinge of regret for not attending, but maybe another opportunity will come up. I really hope so :) I'm glad you liked the video, thanks again for the comment.

Thank you, Mary! Yes, it's a very nice song and shows a slightly different side of Neil - different enough to be stared at by the folk in Misissippi, (who were slightly more conservative maybe?) ☺

I like how he didn't rhyme anything with molasses 😂
Anyway, as a born and bred native southerner, even up into the present day... we still get jazzed over "yankees" showing up.
    Or Californians for that matter.
I also can't think of any song that mentions grits except this one.
Not saying they dont exist, but .... grits is pretty unique to the south. My stepmom (who is originally from new jersey but moved here in the 70s) introduced her inlaws to it when they came to visit. Her brother in law wanted to share the experience so he mailed a package to his grandparents up north.
Grandma let him know she wasn't impressed and didn't see what he liked about them.
Turned out she tried to cook and eat them like cream of wheat or something.
My own dad (from south florida) never had grits until he met my mom. Her grandmother cooked them for him for the first time in his life (in the 70s) he still eats them for breakfast to this day 😅
I prefer them with lots of salt, cheese and a big ol piece of fried mullet on the side ❤

Hi Hy-Brasil! Thanks for your comment. Yes, I think it would have been a little hard to rhyme something sensible with molasses! Glasses, classes?? No,perhaps not :). Your comment was actually educational for me - I had no clue about what "grits" meant, I only knew "grit" and was a bit confused even while putting the video together, a little horrified to think that Mississippi people didn't mind a bit of grit in their food?
Well, that's ignorance for you!😊 Apologies Mississippi.
I have now looked it up and have a much better idea, thanks to Neil's song and your comment! How interesting actually. Love that you pair it with fried mullet and cheese etc.I'm sure that's a winner. Thanks so much for your story, I read it with great interest. Please keep listening to that wonderful "yankee" the New York Boy :)

Thank you for this music video as I've been an avid fan of Neil Diamond from the first time I heard him. Being from New Orleans (most people have trouble believing this for I do not have a "Louisiana accent". I'm very familar with grits and have eaten a lot of them in my younger days and even now occasionally have some with my eggs - I think most Yankees prefer hash browns, which I have no problem with either. Thanks again and I urge all to Pray For Peace. @@Nas18
