Jonathan Metts yup! The German descendants that live there own like 44% of the country. They live in nice houses with pools n what not well the Namibians live in poverty shit makes me sick!
Nick Reyes That's what I suspected. I don't see any kind of economic driver that justifies the high prices. Typically real estate prices are tied to some sort of booming economic activity. Everyone wants to be in a certain area to be near their jobs or the hot spot of town so to speak. But this situation seems predatory and defies logic.
eric hughes I don't think anyone who isn't African should own a land in Africa Germans should not own land there that's what they call great investment they took the land through colonization or bought it when it was very cheap because they had the means back then while African were enslaved now are making the price high. Every land own by non African should be investigated if acquired through colonization get them back
@Mike Raymond i agree with you 💯. I don’t even live there and it pisses me off when i read these comments about non Africans have many businesses in Africa. African Americans are really rising now but I’m not sure if it’s enough to have a lucrative business in Africa. We’ve been oppressed for so long.
good to see your channel, you know my family is from DR Congo and i was born in belgium. I live here but i'm going back to congo as soon as i finish my studies here, anyway i got a part of my cousins uncles and all, i've also been there many times so it's better at there, i thank you so much to show us your experience. Glad to see a sista from the USA going to the mother land
I'm glad I decided to move to Botswana I rent a 3 bedroom house with a wall around it in a quiet area for U$ 75/week gas electricity is not expensive the internet is also unlimited and not expensive but not fast. People here speak very good English and are super friendly and helpful. The problem here are getting permits to stay here if you're retired not so difficult but work permits very difficult.
Very informative video. I'll be relocating to Cotê d'ivoire in 2017. I'm very excited about the move and I encourage African American's to give serious consideration, of relocating to Africa.
To reconnect with a disconnection that has purposely been committed against my people and I. When I went to Africa last year; it was like finding my natural home. For me it felt so good; i knew early on that i would return to stay. I've moved from an Eurocentric to an Afrocentric state of being and i love it. I'm glad that you'll visit Africa; it's most important that you do.
Thank you so much for your videos! You have done a wonderful job of debunking the common stereotypes of Namibia and Africa as a whole. Thus, inspiring me to make the Journey to Africa and eventually calling her my home! So thanks once again!
This was absolutely fascinating. Thanks for sharing your little slice of life in Namibia. This sort of simple info goes a long way to providing insight to a place. Keep up the great vids!
It's not like that in all African countries. About 4 years ago, my late mother bought some land in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and built a small apartment building on it (about 6 units) for a total of $350,000 USD. Mind you this included the purchase of the land and the labor that was required to build the property. And it was in an upper middle class area of Dar. You just have to be smart enough to pick a country where you know you will get your money's worth. Wherever there are significant numbers of Europeans/people of European descent, you can expect the real estate prices to be ridiculous, and that's just the reality. In other words, don't pick a country like South Africa, Botswana, or Namibia. You will regret it.
Rose Joacks Yea, I was born there but raised outside of Washington DC. in Maryland. But I go back to Dar almost every year. Generally I never go more than 2 yrs without visiting.
This is a great idea, I like how u compare U.S prices of real estate to housing properties in Namibia...This is real insight for many of us, I wish someone would do this for Nigeria...Not necessarily Banana Island, but a very decent 3 or 4 bedroom apartment or house...
Lived in Namibia for 10years, very beautiful country, beautiful beach in Swakopmund, capital city windhoek is beautiful...Foreigners own more properties than Namibians themselves, although Namibian population is only 2.5million people, there is high income distribution inequality.. but for a foreigner it is a great place to invest, the economy is stable, no wars, financial institutions have quite advanced systems, Free education for primary and secondary school kids...etc...
I’ve read these comments and there’s a general misconception about how Africans live. Those homes are urban properties but Africans tend to have rural properties and land. So they may live in the cities for work but have a place in the country with their tribe/ family. They tend to spend holidays there.
Yes house are expensive only in the city. In towns house aren't that expensive. I'm a teacher here in Namibia my salary is US$1.150 p/m in Namibia dollar it's $15k and i can afford 3 bed room house and a car.
thnaks for you comment, as you told us you are a teacher and i respect the teachers where ever they are in the would. second yap very expensive but me i though to come in Namibia bt when i watch this video i decided quickly and Automatically to stay in my country.
+Jasmain Coleman Please don't. There's a way out. Land is cheap in many other African nations and you can build a house yourself at a fraction of those astronomical prices white capitalists are throwing at our ppl. Most AAs built their own houses in Nigeria and Ghana. So others can do the same too in any part of Africa, so do not be disturbed but rather be empowered to see the devil as who he really is and know that he is a minority that can be taken down easily if we do our maths right.
What you're saying is true and I'm fully aware who is doing what. If I do move to Africa it would be Guinea, in my husband's country. White people are everywhere, lol. I just hate to see countries being taken advantage of just for development purposes, or out of fear because the lacking weaponry to protect themselves.
I noticed that the real estate agents were all Caucasians. I'm sure that has a lot to do with the outrageous rates & of course the president is benefiting. My fiance is from Zimbabwe & we'll be moving there soon, we are planning on opening up a business. I only want money circulating through black hands though, real estate would be a good idea. My goal is to make a change in the country
Jasmaine Holmes Massacre loads of people and caused famines through farm redistribution programs. Also he fucked up the education system aswell. Rhodesia had a better standard of living. Rhodesia!
+little flaver Earl Believe me I am all for it. More have to go as soon as possible or the danger level will get bad for them in the USA.. I know this.
+kingmatt2563 Mugabe simply gave the white-seized lands to their original African/black owners. Unfortunately, the land reclaiming programe isn't quick or far-reaching enough in my opinion. Rhodesia had a better standard of living for whites because the whites had blacks as their slaves/housemaids/laborers.
You really are beautiful!!.... I'm from London and would love to visit Namibia, Would you invite me over as i don't know anyone over there?? Only know people in Nigeria
I am 75, so not wanting to buy a home, and when I downsize from my apartment, it will be to a studio. I am staying in America, where prices are too high for rent and utilities etc. , but the food I like is here. Enjoy my play daughter.💕❤️
+soffy2002 Farmland - most privately owned by Whites and foreigners, especially Germans; in the towns land is generally owned by the government and private citizens.
Excellent video. It reminds me of Puerto Rico a littler bit. Anyhow, I hate spiders too. Over here in Oregon, once a year, I have to go around my house with a flamethrower thingy a have, and go around the perimeter of my house and burn away all the spiders and spider nests. That usually last for about a year or two. You have to be careful, of course, not to burn down the fence or your house while doing this extermination. Thanks for the information. When I was in Africa, back in the day. I used to hang around Lake Victoria. I never visited the south countries. So, your videos are fascinating. Thanks for making them.
The prices do not surprise me. It is like that in many African countries because there is a "captive audience dynamic". They know that most of the local population will find it hard to migrate to another country or another part of the country and the expats need certain amenities and have to be near the job and have access to Western goods and services. Expats help the economic development as consumers but also drive up the price of housing. As a result, once you are they you in the "you get what you pay for" scenario. The only solution is increased competition in the real estate sector but the developers do not want make the mistake that was made in many Asian countries where you see all these great new developments that end up being empty ghost towns that look nice. Unless the government steps in and builds affordable housing most African nations will have a huge housing gap. Nice housing for those who can afford and extremely basic housing for everyone else.
While expensive for a local, any one who remotely work for a western company (European, Canadian or American) will live like a king because compared to those places, Namibia is dirt cheap... And more and more people are working remotely or are online entrepreneur
It is all available. It perhaps may not be the fasted like in the US probably but we have it all. A service call TN Mobile is a good choice for fast internet.
I am so happy i came across this video i live in namibia and its amazing i am happy someone from america adressed this issue we are really struggling to own our own houses.bt thumbs up to the video
+Baldwin Villager The farmland is most privately owned by Whites and foreigners, especially Germans; and in the towns land is generally owned by the government and private citizens.
Namibia was under South African rule up until 1990. Which means the area of Namibia also fell under Apartheid. Before that they were under German colonial rule. So the white people living there still own and benefit from the land and wealth they stole during that period. So when you see massive social inequality like this you must know somewhere white oppression was involved. Hiking up prices to keep out the poor who are mostly black is the modern way in which whites are implementing a new form of Apartheid/Segregation.
Love your video! I would love the chance to live in another country, especially one as beautiful as Namibia. It is sad that people cannot afford housing in their own country. It is like that where I live in Florida, although I am sure it does not begin to compare. People with money come from out of state or other countries, buy up property and charge a fortune in rent. Thank you for sharing!
Sorry but those adds are designed with white people in mind nobody else that's why I find hilarious when you get the same people saying "go back to Africa" Everywhere I've been in Africa currently some of them only bring high prices, racism and weird behavior nough said.
Very nice keep up the good work.. i live in the northern part of Namibia n have relatives that lives in the city of windhoek paying 11 000 apartment with the same quality where i live but i paid it for about 4500 a month.. so u pretty much right what u saying... 🖒👏👏
Nice video, but I won't lie, I only clicked on it because of the title and beautiful woman... didn't expect for me to enjoy it be that much more. Nicely done
I think our housing costs really needs to be reduced. i'm a Namibian studying in Brazil (South America) but comparing the amount of money that i pay for my apartment every month there's a big difference...
In fact the cost of housing is very high, here in Brazil we still find places where the price is better. It is said that in Namibia the people have to deal with this.
+Josia Brown Interesting to hear that you are living in Brazil. How is life there? Because I am Mozambican and in recent years there has been a crazy influx of Brazilians in Mozambique, who are driving prices up. Is the cost of living much lower there?
hi, The situation out in Namibia seems just like South Africa, Im talking about bout rental and Buying prices. And also the overall conditions seems the same. Good job.
Hold up🙅. As an actual afrikan and Namibian. I do agree that our housing prices are ridiculously high, especially in windhoek, due to an increase in the demand for housing coz there's alot of rural- urban migration going on, having the fact that we do have a high unemployment rate and the city has more opportunities than any other town, however, mind you.. there are other areas that are much much cheaper to accumulate land and actually buy a house, such as the north and the coastal areas of my beautiful country. Hope this gives some of you some insight.. It's not all that expensive in all areas.. Jah bless,👸🤗
Its supply and demand. Your seeing this everywhere. But the question is who are buying theses properties? People are now much more mobile than every before in history, so called first world countries are no longer good buys because they have overvalued their properties. In the USA and England, your seeing a lot of Foreign Investors buying (all cash in many cases) taking the properties. Even in Silicon Valley, California which is the Tech Capital of the world you have people making well over 100,000 USD per year that can''t afford to buy homes. The bankers are running the world, they profit and control the resources. The G20 just met, their is a small hand of people that really run tings. Just wanted to try to share a little perspective. Hey but great video!!!
Real estate prices, in the good African countries, are going up big time. It seems cheaper, to me, when I invest from the States, to purchase land then build. Thanks for sharing.
AfroAmericaninAfrica, you should include also data such as the incomes for regular jobs there. Just saying that an apartment cost around US$350 per month will sound good for someone working in the US who doesn't know that the incomes over there are way too low. Many people over there work for less than US$100 per month.
Compared to California house prices this is a STEAL! I'm only 31 but I'm planning an early retirement if all business ventures pan out right. By my late 40s early 50s im trying to officially retire. Need to put Namibia on my retirment list lol!
Why is everything that has to do with people of color so unfair? Even in the motherland prices like this? My people, we have to find a way to develop something exclusive to us and come out of such unfairness!
Its not white people bruh. Africans need to take responsibility and run their countries with their people in mind unlike the current presidents over there who get elected then immediately try to get rich.
for example in mozambique the same properties will cost 500 thousands dollars, so to tell you don't go to Africa thinking you are going to pay less money.Angola is one of the most expensive countries in the planet
hey! yeah, namibia housing is *expensive* ... i thought cape town was off the chain [for southern africa] and then i went to windhoek, and i was like, "um, no." i wasn't expecting katutura to be so expensive tho. down here the houses in the locations [when there are some on sale] are cheaper, but still work out pricey for most people living around them. and near the angolan border ...are people coming from over the border to buy? because there is like no money up there ... so i'm guessing it's angolans and chinese who are renting/buying and then going over the border to work every day?
Namibia looks gorgeous... didnt know! Thank you for upload. Hey how many Namibians own the land for sale? Also, are there more european real estate brokers than Namibians? Thanks again
Returning to the motherland sounds great. I will consider it and research different areas. Any advice in choosing a location is most welcome. I noticed that your patio seemed like a jail cell. Why the bars? What is the crime situation there. Most important question: Are there McDonald's there?
i dont get why people think these houses are so expensive. i was born and raised in Georgia (labelled as one of the lowest living/housing costs in the world). an average house here costs about 100.000 - 150.000 GEL which is 470.000 - 700.000 NAD.

Okay. Take me with you
Have you moved to Africa yet?
That's crazy price's for Africa, I can't imagine many locals can't afford to live
so they keep the cost of owning property high and the cost of renting low in order to keep you from owning your own property an keeping the rich, rich
Jonathan Metts yup! The German descendants that live there own like 44% of the country. They live in nice houses with pools n what not well the Namibians live in poverty shit makes me sick!
Exactly

That's what I suspected. I don't see any kind of economic driver that justifies the high prices. Typically real estate prices are tied to some sort of booming economic activity. This is true. Affordable for us but not for the actual citizens of the country, which is problematic.

The median price for a house where I live is over 500K USD. Maybe it's time to retire in Namibia....
Bruh come to malawi you will get the best house in town for $50k seriously
King Willie that's just as much as the us without the job
Hold on, Namibia has a better exchange rate that many countries in the Caribbean.

Thank you for the information. What about telecommunications ie: wifi, cable, satellite internet services?
It is all available. It perhaps may not be the fasted like in the US probably but we have it all. A service call TN Mobile is a good choice for fast internet.
Just a fun fact: every town in Windhoek starts with an 'O',and Windhoek literally means 'wind corner '.
Osama Morgan, every town in Namibia? & no, Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, Tsumeb, Arandis & many more do not start with Os.
Thank god, a real bio female youtuber for once!!! Thank you so much for that alone, apart from your very interesting channel.
I am so happy i came across this video i live in namibia and its amazing i am happy someone from america adressed this issue we are really struggling to own our own houses.bt thumbs up to the video
Thanks so much Charney
I have the same question as another subscriber. Who exactly is buying up all the land?
+Baldwin Villager The farmland is most privately owned by Whites and foreigners, especially Germans; and in the towns land is generally owned by the government and private citizens.
Jews!!!! who else
Hiking up prices to keep out the poor who are mostly black is the modern way in which whites are implementing a new form of Apartheid/Segregation.
...Government and private citizens huh?
AfroAmericaninAfrica I feel really really sorry for your country if they owned all the farmland so what is left? My gosh God help you guys
the average Namibian can barely afford this house
Love your video! I would love the chance to live in another country, especially one as beautiful as Namibia. It is sad that people cannot afford housing in their own country. It is like that where I live in Florida, although I am sure it does not begin to compare. People with money come from out of state or other countries, buy up property and charge a fortune in rent. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Sorry but those adds are designed with white people in mind nobody else that's why I find hilarious when you get the same people saying "go back to Africa" Everywhere I've been in Africa currently some of them only bring high prices, racism and weird behavior nough said.
LoL ReplayBaby no everywhere
It is said that in Namibia the people have to deal with this.
did you learn portuguese?
Yes I did.
+Josia Brown Interesting to hear that you are living in Brazil. How is life there? Because I am Mozambican and in recent years there has been a crazy influx of Brazilians in Mozambique, who are driving prices up. Is the cost of living much lower there?
I am aware, I have been to Brazil years ago, and also Brazil was a portuguese colony, who were slave traders and stop for slave commerce.
hi, The situation out in Namibia seems just like South Africa, Im talking about bout rental and Buying prices. And also the overall conditions seems the same. Good job.
Congrats on your wedding !
I really enjoy your videos
AfrocaribbeanLivingInTheNetherlands :D
+Silvano Haynes Thank you!
She’s gorgeous 😍
This is a fascinating video. Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
Great to see a better part of Africa. We do not see this on North American media. Thanks for sharing
I love your videos. And you are beautiful. Thanks for the uploads!
I might have to check those rental out very cheap compared with in the US
Once you convert the exchange rate, yes, it is significantly cheaper!
It's quite amazing. The country is huge. The population is tiny. There is so much land. It should be cheap.
Exactly!
great channel sis. much luv n respect
Why is everything that has to do with people of color so unfair? Even in the motherland prices like this? My people, we have to find a way to develop something exclusive to us and come out of such unfairness!
The sad truth!
Its not white people bruh. Africans need to take responsibility and run their countries with their people in mind unlike the current presidents over there who get elected then immediately try to get rich.
Prices seem quite reasonable in USD. A US citizen of modest financial status could live well there. Looks like a nice, clean place.
Thanks for your informative videos..
I miss it there so much. Such a beautiful place
I think this is happening because of the close proximity to SouthAfrica and the cracks are doing what they do here over there
as well.
Wow, that's crazy! Thanks for sharing!
for example in mozambique the same properties will cost 500 thousands dollars, so to tell you don't go to Africa thinking you are going to pay less money.Angola is one of the most expensive countries in the planet
Not Angola but more Luanda......
Thank you for sharing! I love you! You are great!
Interesting. Didn’t know property was so expensive
Girl, I completely understand about that spider #Metoo! Thanks for the video!
Love your video thank........
The prices are ridiculously high. It's as expensive as living in South Africa.
lovn' those kick-ass beats
hey!
yeah, namibia housing is *expensive* ... i thought cape town was off the chain [for southern africa] and then i went to windhoek, and i was like, "um, no."
i wasn't expecting katutura to be so expensive tho. down here the houses in the locations [when there are some on sale] are cheaper, but still work out pricey for most people living around them.
and near the angolan border ...are people coming from over the border to buy? because there is like no money up there ... so i'm guessing it's angolans and chinese who are renting/buying and then going over the border to work every day?
Thank you for the video I'm def paying attention.
Wow you are beautiful and have a beautiful smile. Good luck over there.
Namibia looks gorgeous... didnt know! Thank you for upload. Hey how many Namibians own the land for sale? Also, are there more european real estate brokers than Namibians?
Thanks again
cool, can't wait to visit one day soon!
Looks a lot like Arizona, particularly the giant spider.
I love the comments on this video
Returning to the motherland sounds great. I will consider it and research different areas. Any advice in choosing a location is most welcome. I noticed that your patio seemed like a jail cell. Why the bars? What is the crime situation there. Most important question: Are there McDonald's there?
GREAT info! I've been waiting for someone to cover this on RUclips. #NewSubscriber
Guys I'm watching this in 2019 and I am from Windhoek. Prices have skyrocketed so much that they are double that on this vid
i dont get why people think these houses are so expensive. i was born and raised in Georgia (labelled as one of the lowest living/housing costs in the world). an average house here costs about 100.000 - 150.000 GEL which is 470.000 - 700.000 NAD.
thank you for this awesome video!! I would like to guy land in Africa in 2017. not sure where yet. this is very helpful.
You're welcome, thanks for watching! That's a great plan!
I just seen your first video, you were talking about 98°.
In this video you finally got your natural tan going, that sun can't stop you
