38 years later this still holds the title as the greatest live performance in rock history! Freddie was a complete master of crowd control. 72,000 at Wembley, a total of 1.2 billion globally watching on TV. Please react to Somebody To Love live Montreal 1981. This performance is ranked as the second greatest live performance! Phenomenal♥️👑🎸🎤🥁🎹

They had to cut the longer songs short since each group was limited to 20 minutes. Queen chose to include as many of their hit songs as possible which meant they could only do the first verse of the longest songs. Freddie had laryngitis the week before this concert. His doctor recommended that he cancel this concert and rest his voice, but Freddie ignored the advice and went on to make rock history.

Freddie was the true showman, he was unwell that day and doctors advised him to not go on stage and perform with risk of damaging his voice. A performance that will last a thousand lifetimes. During an interview Freddie was asked what his favourite instrument to play was, his reply in true Freddie fashion "the crowd my dear, the crowd"

The truly amazing thing was this was not a "Queen" crowd per se. The tickets had been sold weeks before Queen agreed to play this venue and therefore they weren't even on the line up. But, in true Queen fashion, they stole the show!

  • @sherryheim5504

This is such an incredible set from this concert. If you watch closely, Brian plays 3 different guitars on Crazy Little Thing Called Love, an acoustic, a Stratocaster and his own Red Special. I was not at this show but it was broadcast around the world and so all of us got to experience it. My favorite Queen live performance is White Queen live at Odeon, Hammersmith 1975. There is a long instrumental break in that performance that is beyond belief that it could be live. Freddie is in perfect voice as well and the whole band is just spot on for the entire song. Thank you for your reaction.

It wasn’t only Queen who realized they had been sensational. Paul Gambaccini, who was part of the BBC broadcasting team at Live Aid, recalled the awe among other superstar musicians watching backstage. “Everybody realized that Queen was stealing the show,” said Gambaccini. These were the very words Elton John uttered when he rushed into Mercury’s trailer after the set. “You bastards, you stole the show,” joked the charismatic star.
“Queen smoked ’em. They just took everybody. They walked away being the greatest band you’d ever seen in your life, and it was unbelievable,” said Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters. “And that’s what made the band so great; that’s why they should be recognized as one of the greatest rock bands of all time, because they could connect with an audience.”

I remember watching this live on TV. I was 15 years old. It’s nice to see somebody watch it for the first time. Shane nice reaction. I watched most of live aid, Wembley Stadium, in London, and JFK stadium in Philadelphia. There were a lot of fabulous bands, and singers. Queen definitely stole the whole show. A lot of live aid was very memorable, but Queen was definitely unforgettable. They’re just a really tight band with the best front man ever.❤️✌️🌼

Sorry, just found you; so, I’m late to the Comment Section! I’m a 66 y/o Glamma. You seem to enjoy the background of things. And, I’m a Trivia sponge, so here goes: They had just completed a Tour a month b4. So, they went & rented a Stadium to practice the performance. He ended up with a Throat Infection & the Doctor highly recommended he not do it bc he might lose his musical ability. He said no! Can you tell he had a severe throat infection? Most people think he was drinking booze from the cups bc on the piano. He’s drinking Honey & Tea. His command of the Audience was more than coincidence it was miraculous. Considering there were so many people there the sound was getting absorbed through them. So the people @ the back we’re following his hand gestures bc the actual sound hadn’t even reached them b4 the next sound was coming @ them. Go back & watch what his hands are doing & what the Audience is doing. NEXT: Radio Gaga is celebrating Radio bc M-TV is just getting started. LADY GAGA was a huge Freddie Fam growing up, so That was where she came up with HER STAGE NAME! You have to listen to the words to really understand the meaning. Most of us didn’t have a clue what a Band looked like unless we saw them in Person!
NEXT-MICROPHONE. At sometime along the way a Microphone Stand broke, so that was the only spilt second solution they could come up with. He realized the freedom he had to move, dance, & engage the Audience.
NEXT MICHAEL JACKSON & ELVIS CONNECTION on Song THING CALLED LOVE: It was written as his homage to Elvis-Freddie was a big fan. But, he just wasn’t sure about the song bc he didn’t want to taint Elvis. SO, he played it for Michael J. (Yes, they were friends!). And Michael told him he HAD TO, he said “Freddie, you have to”! (Can’t you just see that!?).
NEXT FREDDIE’s VOICE. HE HAD 4 extra teeth so that’s the reason he had such an overbite. He had the ability to naturally flow from Octave to Octave. It was a natural progression, for him.
SCIENTIFICALLY: Test were done on his Voice. He was able to use his Throat muscles on either side of his vocal cords. Which is normally seen in some Opera Singers. His Vocal Range was from Low Bass F, to High Soprano F! They were extremely surprised to find out that he could go from about 92Hz to 784Hz, effortlessly! See ACTUAL REPORT BELOW:
nyone who has listened to a Queen track knows that Freddie has a unique ability that still has not been truly replicated since. His ability to blend highs, lows and mid range notes cohesively and with immense precision. This skill was due to the fact that Freddie was able to create faster vibrato and harmonics than any other singer at the time. Not only this, he was able to shift through registers effortlessly. Although he naturally held a baritone voice, he primarily sang as a tenor and of course had no problem then shifting into soprano parts. One study on Freddie’s vocal range even confirmed that he was able to vary from about 92.2 Hz to 784 Hz, meaning he was reliably able to hit notes from the booming low of F#2 to the high pitch G5 - that covers a full three octaves!
LAST FUN FACT: His Lead Guitarist is playing on a Guitar he & his Father made. When he first starting to learn they were too poor to afford a high end guitar. So, they just made one! The included some “extras” that would normally have to be separate instruments to get all those features (think Concerts when you see guitarist changing Guitars depending on the Song….that’s why he didn’t)!
I’m sorry to take up your Valuable Time, and I thank you. You need anymore Trivia I’m your G’Ma go to. My Brain is full, especially with music, & believe it or not Sports!
(When he is waving his arm it is to tell the cameramen which way he is going bc he’s moving around so much. And, “We Will Rock You”, is actually a Prelude to “We Are The Champions”. It is actually all 1 Song!)
LEAD GUITARIST: Brian May’s family couldn’t afford a Guitar so he & his Dad made it from an old Cabinet. Because they were making it there are a lot of extra features that he wanted. It is truly a “one of a kind”!

Hey bro this was kind of a pivotal moment in the band’s history, by this time they’d been together for around 15 years, they’d had a couple of recent albums which by their standards had performed very poorly and rumours abounded that they were going to split up. They hadn’t been part of the Band Aid charity single Do They Know It’s Christmas which was the foundation of this global concert (remember this was a simultaneous concert between Wembley St.London and JFK St. Philadelphia) a hugely technical challenge in the infancy of Television satellites with potentially an audience of billions. Well, Freddie & Co probably sensed an opportunity to put themselves back out there and a year later we’re back at Wembley to a two-night sell-out (which incidentally could have been 7 night sellout or more if the Stadium had been available). Because they couldn’t have the stadium hit more than the two nights they added a gig to the end of this tour at Knebworth where they played to 120,000!!
This was the Magic tour off the back of the A Kind Of Magic album and BM has stated in interviews that Freddie had hinted that this would be his last live tour although hadn’t really revealed the true reason at this point. This tour was huge and was the first time they’d toured AND MADE A PROFIT!!
Search Queen, Wembley 1986 here in YT or it is definitely available to buy in DVD (I have a two disc version which gives some great behind-the-scenes too).
    😊🇬🇧🇿🇦

Hammer to Fall was written about the cold war. It was a worrying time for those alive at that point. Margaret Thatcher talked to Mickiel Gorboshove and they got on and stopped the silent war.

They cut EVERY song short. They had to. They had 20 minutes. Otherwise you'd have seen about 3 songs over the set. They played samples from their set in order to comply with the organisers and to give the fans value for money.
But despite this, they played one of the best live sets of all time. I, sure as sugar, ain't complaining. I don't think any of the nearly 2 billion people watching - worldwide - both at the venue and on live TV, were complaining either.

I saw them in 86 at Knebworth, which turned out to be their last ever UK gig. They were, as you would expect, majestic. Even with the infamous car park debacle (took us 4 hours to get out) they were worth it.

When Freddie died, and the cause of his death became public knowledge, there were several DJs on the rock station where I lived who refused to play Queen. All these years later I’d say the verdict is in: Freddie is only more popular and more iconic. His voice, and Queen’s timeless music, are still being discovered by new fans each and every year. And those old rock DJs? No one remembers their names at all.

There were 80K people at the old wembley stadium that day and world wide, they estimated 1.8 billion world wide. It was a wonderful and memorable day and they all raised a lot of money for the famine in Ethiopia.

I'm so glad you reacted to this iconic, greatest prefomance of all time! They were on fire that night! Perfection all the way around. I weep sometimes when I see it...for a lot of reasons. Queen hd a wonderful work ethic. They practiced, practiced, practiced, and were perfect because of it. 4 talented musicians that came together to form magic that is unmatched ❤ Your Dad looks a bit like our dear Freddie. I love your enthusiasm. ❤❤

It was funny how the queen eclipsed all the other participants in the event and turned this very event into her own concert) You need to understand that the whole stadium did not come to see the queen 😁

No disrespect to you but that is not what I'm saying in the video. I'm talking about my dad passing away from Cancer. 19 years ago and how Queen was my dad's favorite band. I'm sure most people including myself know how Freddie Died.

Yes it was a medleys. Each band had I think 20 minutes to perform and then sound and lights were cut. They practiced a week to get timing. There was a similar crowd in Philadelphia and it was broadcast to 1.9 million

Glad to hear that Queen has has had such a positive impact on you, (as indeed the band did to me, back in 1974 when I first heard them).

    Loving your reactions dude!
This was a great choice. Freddy was an awesome frontman and is so sorely missed.
There's a video I think you should do a reaction to. Josh Freese (now the drummer for the Foo Fighters) played with Nine Inch Nails for a time. He did a drum-cam video of the song "Wish" and I would LOVE to see your reaction to it.
Keep doing what you are doing! You rock!
