    Cost: $300
    Skill Level: Beginner
    Tools List:
Paint brushes in a variety of sizes [amzn.to/32XWhIl]
    Paint roller [amzn.to/32WEscB]
    Putty knife [amzn.to/2OkBzhN]
    Caulking gun [amzn.to/2LDVVRm]
    Utility knife [amzn.to/2QlHGF0]
    Shopping List:
    Paint [amzn.to/2O9YXhJ]
    Drop cloths [amzn.to/2LGsEpb]
    Painter’s tape [amzn.to/2ObiY7K]
Microfiber roll for paint roller [amzn.to/2ObRa2S]
    Liquid mask [amzn.to/30aQy4P]
    Paint additive [amzn.to/31z1JB7]
    Paintable caulking [amzn.to/30uikVo]
    Steps:
    1. Before starting work, remove or protect any furniture in the room with drop cloths. Protect where the floor meets the wall with painter’s tape.
    2. When painting, always start at the top of the room and work your way down. Always pour paint into a separate container.
    3. Paint the ceiling with a matte paint and the roller.
    4. Paint the trim, including window trim, chair rails, and door casings with a semi-gloss paint and a 1 _” synthetic paint brush. Start from the top and work down.
    5. For painting around windows, apply a liquid mask to the glass with a paint brush instead of using painter’s tape. The liquid acts like a spot primer if it gets on the sash, and it will protect the glass while painting.
    6. Once the mask turns clear, add a second coat and wait for that to turn clear as well.
    7. Paint the window frame, starting from the inside closest to the glass, and work your way out. To keep paint from getting into the cracks between the window and the jamb, slide a putty knife in the crack and drag it down as you paint. Add a paint additive if necessary to thin out the paint being applied around the windows.
    8. Once the window frame is painted, paint the casing, then the window sill. For the side of the casing, keep the brush parallel to the wall and drag the brush all the way down the side of the casing.
    9. Apply a second coat to the window trim, chair rails, and door casings.
    10. Paint the walls using eggshell paint in most rooms. Low traffic rooms, like a bedroom, can use a matte finish.
    11. Cut the edges around the walls with a 2 _” synthetic brush. Carefully drag the brush in a motion away from the ceiling and trim to prevent it from spilling over.
    12. Paint the rest of the walls with a microfiber roller.
    13. Before applying the final coat, using paintable caulking to fill in any gaps between trim, baseboards, etc.
    14. Apply a second coat to the walls.
    15. Clean up the drop cloths and painter’s tape. To remove the liquid mask, cut around the glass with a utility knife and peel it back slowly.

All the painting supplies Mauro used on this project, including the brushes, rollers, drop clothes, and paint additive, can all be found at home centers and paint supply stores.
Mauro painted the room using Behr Marquee paint [amzn.to/30aRXbB] (www.behr.com/consumer/marquee-.... The top of the wall used the color Stargazer [amzn.to/2QfZ1iA] (www.behr.com/consumer/ColorDet..., and the trim and the bottom of the wall used the color Bit of Sugar [amzn.to/2QfZ1iA] (www.behr.com/consumer/ColorDet.... The trim had a semi-gloss finish and the walls had an eggshell finish.
Mauro demonstrated Masking Liquid H20 [amzn.to/31ALRhj], a water based clear coating that can mask window panes when painting a window. It is manufactured by Associated Paint Inc (associatedpaint.com/maskingliq....

He did a couple of things which I really like. Firstly he did the trims, it's easier to cut the trims into the wall, then cut the walls into the trim, and he advised to start the window joinery from the inside and work outwards. Not everybody does this. This guy really knows his stuff.

Hi Mauro, you mentioned rolling the walls with a 9” sleeve but here’s the secret! 2 sizes of sleeves I use on all my paint projects. 13 mil for walls and a 19 mil for ceilings! 2 major reason they carry more paint and avoid lap marks especially on flat ceilings! Don the gooseneck guy professional painter Ottawa Canada! I do not recommend a 10 mil. Cheers!

Should you not sand the window frames first to provide a key?

I have so many questions... 0:55 But why? 3:37 Why is he pouring paint out of a different side of the can than it has already been poured out of? (3:39 Cut to him pouring out of a different can.) 3:51 What paint additive? 6:44 I agree pros don't need tape, but then why not also freehand the windows? The liquid mask might prevent paint from adhering to the edge of the glass (which seals the junction), and if you get it on the sash you'll have to touch up when it's removed.

Using liquid masking seems like A LOT more work than using painters tape and probably more expensive. The explanation isn’t really clear why we should go with liquid tape? I haven’t had any issues with painters tape so someone please explain

Liquid mask is cool but I’m guessing you can’t be sloppy with it and get it on the woodwork or you’re screwed, so you have to cut that in, So thinking tape is probably the way to go

So what happens when liquid masking goes over the wood area you are about to paint? I see few issue:
    1. It adds extra thickness.
    2. It's designed to peel easily.
Anyone know? Before even painting, can you score with a blade and peel off liquid masking from the frame?

Sergey Bebenin - Supposedly it acts as a thin primer on the prepped surfaces. Any decent paint would cover the edge of the masking fluid. The ultra smooth surface of the glass makes it possible to easily peel. It may be easier than taping edges, but nothing beats proper brush control. In a worst case scenario a damp rag, and a razor blade does wonders.

TOH had a video a few weeks ago where he demoed the masking in the studio. Totally fine to go under the paint on the wood.

It can also act as a spot primer, so it's not a huge deal if it hits the wood in a few places.

When he id the walls why didn't he do long strokes? That stop and start leaves marks you can see when the light hits it just right

    • @youtubebitchcenter1463

I always paint the walls first and get that outta the way ( well ceilings first ) then work on my trim and never have to worry about paint splatter. It’s so simple to add something like frog tape around your window trim and then cut in with your paint it comes out perfect I don’t know why so many people are taught to do it the reverse way??? 🤔🤔🤔to each his own I guess, it just seems more logical to do the trim last!
