This game is insane. My first automaton battle was a challenging difficulty one. We dropped in with my fellow helldivers. It was in a jungle at night time. We just saw redlights in the darkness. Then we started getting shot from all directions. We tried desperately to hold on, we were jumped on by jetpack robots with chainswords. Walkers and heavy robots were firering missiles at us. We died like 12 times in the first 5 min. We had no time to rest, a nearby automaton base was firering big lasers at us while smaller turrets were pinning us down. It was truly a Helldive. We managed to regroup and actually we made it out alive of our first mission. But damn, that feeling of stress and fear while barely surviving is insane haha

For those wondering what i mean Eagle Airstrikes have two uses. However once you use it twice the Eagle returns to the destroyer to rearm, which takes a few minutes, but then returns with two uses again. You can also send it back early if you have a long walk ahead of you and don't think you'll need any of your Eagle stratagems so it's fully loaded when you reach your target.
Some of them have more. Or less. The cluster strike has four, which I'm almost certain is just because it'll frag your teammates as much as it kills the enemies.
Some friends and I were doing a mission on Space Vietnam, one of the survey missions. We set up the thingy and then the Automatons were on us, throwing everything they had at us. We were in between two hills that gave us a little cover. It really did feel like Vietnam, like the battle of Ia Drang or something. Constant air strikes, mortar fire, and orbital strikes, with tracers, lasers, and bodies flying everywhere. We were constantly diving away from our own airstrikes as much as we were the enemy. So, regarding the warbonds/not-quite-battlepasses. They're a 'pick-and-choose' progression system, progressed with the 'medals' currency you earn through mission completion or by finding them in hidden caches on the ground. The devs have already confirmed that every warbond they add is going to be evergreen, so no cycling out of goods or FOMO for the progression tracks they offer. They've also stated an intent of adding new bonds on a two week cycle, going forward. As far as the super credits are concerned, the game has been shockingly generous with lining your pockets with the stuff, since you can find hidden caches of them around your missions, as well as earn extra via your warbonds. Even the current premium warbond gives you back 300 of the 750 it costs, over the course of unlocking it. Premium currencies in paid games still isn't my favorite, but this game may just be one of most generous of the lot as far as that goes. Still not a fan of nProtect, but hey.
To save our Super Earth from any alien attack, from vicious giant insects who have once again come back. We'll unleash all our firepower, we won't cut them any slack, the EDF Deploys!
I really like the progression system. I personally didn't find it confusing at all but I guess I can see how it could be. I know there are people that don't like grinding to just get the thing they want, but I do. I love going into missions and looking for those extra medals and watching the number of medals I need to unlock the next page go down. Having to unlock each page feels like a nice progressive milestone and I really appreciate that in a progression system. I, and I'm sure others, enjoy the process of it, not just getting the thing but the journey to get it. It feels good. And although I get alot of things that don't really interest me I still end up trying them out or using them because, well, I now have them and they're my new shiny thing, even if it they aren't the item at the end of the tunnel that I'm REALLY looking for, they are still items I can use while I work to get the thing I do want.
I swear, because of these suit designs, in 2070 I(whom will not survive that long) would be telling my (nonexistent) grandkids that there was this game called Destiny and then proceed to describe a mix of NMS, Satisfactory and Helldivers😅
I remember a tense mission me and a friend were doing where right out of the gate we were getting hunted and demolished and when we stormed the robot base and came out on top with craters everywhere as smoke raised from demolished buildings felt incredibly immersive.. This game is awesome because you're rarely going to have a moment of peace and nothing beats dropping through the giant bugs head in a pod and instantly winning a boss fight, this is a game I'll be playing for a while lol.
I just unlocked the Ballistic Shield today. I used it against the Automatons, mostly as a meme, but I was shocked that it was extremely useful. The ability to tank A LOT of small-arms fire is crazy good. Now, if a tank, rocket launcher, or mortar/artillery hits you, you're dead regardless (and your shield will be destroyed) but I was able to hold out for a long time while my teammates retreated to the extraction point. I'm also really happy that unlike HD1, SMGs are shotguns are actually really good. I've been using the Defender with my shield to great effect.
Being overwhelmed in HD1 was pretty good and felt stressful. But in HD2, being swarmed has never been so intense and stress inducing. I absolutely love it.
I absolutely love this game! Brings back core memories from when the first and second Destiny came out when I was a teenager! Out of everything my favorite part is the drop sequence scene. Watching your squad shoot down towards a planet in a ball of fire is a top tier “Lets Fucking Go!!” Moment
This review is the first video I've seen from you and it was great. Wasn't even looking for it, a friend recommended me to take a look at the game and suddenly I'm hete 😂
The content in this game already is legitimately insane, and I can't imagine how much extra insanity future content is going to deliver. If any of you ever chance on board of the Sovereign of Starlight for a random drop, let's bring liberty and democracy to all who oppose us together.
I think so, yes. I think they're going to add them but it's taking longer than the other two enemy factions because of how their abilities work. I can imagine the Illuminate can be difficult to implement in 3D as opposed to 2D.
The biggest difference in the armours are the buff. Light armour makes you significantly faster and the stamina regen is very noticeable. Heavy armour give you a significant buff against explosives and gives you better recoil control. The Med armour is general purpose but there are variations which give you good buffs like the medical suit which gives you more stims and a 20% buff to their effect duration. In practice this means you can actually completely tank damage when you take a stim while being completely overrun by bugs
The heavy armor on the premium pass gives you the same throw distance and limb health bonus as the medium armor. For almost every armor skill there will likely be at least one light or heavy variant.
The transition from the first game to the second in terms of perspective is great. The only other franchise that successfully transitioned perspective is the transition from 2d platformer to a 3rd person shooter that Risk of rain pulled off
Supply Pack has put in an obscene amount of weight in my games; sure you get the dopamine hit of being the team’s That Good Guy, but you also can just do your own thing and go hard in the paint more than usual since you can fully restock yourself far more frequently without taking anything from the team.
You are the first I've heard reference the illuminate(?), clearly you know what you speak of and I must trust your leadership. I, a fellow doubter of 3D conversions, am now convinced of the game's value.
Just to pass my own thing in - it took me roughly 27 hours of game play (just under 50 total missions) to get the 1000 Super Credits. That was me progressing up through the difficult tiers. As the higher difficulties start rewarding more, I think if I play on Suicide mission, I'll see my next thousand a little more quickly. This is definitely a game that wants you to stick around and play long term. I think that's why they made the highest tier in the main battle-pass style progression tree take a thousand + medals. Also - I am just so excited, thinking about how there is a good chance we are going to be seeing / getting access to vehicles, and the illuminate. I feel like the devs have saved a lot of stuff in the can, to drip feed out to maintain long term interest in the game. I feel like with the way the map is set up, there might even be a fourth faction, where we see treasonous humans trying to udermine our way of life. Rogue SEAF type forces, flat out humans, that use our tactics against us, but separate from the automatons. Theres a lot of potential for different enemy types, combos, and dangerous fighting. Robotic Bugs... it has so much potential to be even more fun!
A friend introduced me to the Starship trooper movies, and kept telling me about a fps for it, while i never actually found said fps, Helldivers 2 at first glance looks like that game he decribed to me more than 15 years ago.
Regarding the super warbond that requires premium or real money to unlock: Yes you can unlock it through playing just the game, the rate at which you get that currency however is really slow. You said you have 350 credits without trying, but that's because you 1. start with a couple credits (If I remember correctly), 2. The progression system lets you spend medals for free credits however this is 100 credits the first 3-4 times and then it lowers to 50. After playing 20+ hours I'm at 500 credits, however getting the next 500 credits through the warbond is really slow as it is now 50 at a time for 20 medals. So you'd have to get nearly all those credits from ingame lockers. From the lockers the rate is also very low, devs have said the following: players are expected to earn 10-40 Super Credits per hour. The Warbond progression only gives you a total of 700-800 credits so you would need to complete the entire Warbond progression system and play 10 efficient hours of looting super credits. This would mean to get 1000 super credits for a warbond you'd need to play a lot and that's a shame because there are a lot of cool weapons locked behind the premium battlepass, and they'll stay locked for many hours of gameplay.
Been playing it with old buddies from PlanetSide 2. Been a load of fun so far. Biggest issue at the moment is the log in queue. There are also some balancing issues for some missions like evacuate civilians that need some lookovers. Overall, great game.
The super credits can be annoying but I got enough to buy the premium war bond in the nine hours of play. Its all about exploration. Also great job with the video.
Space 'Nam is so fuckin' accurate. I swapped fronts after getting too many armor bugs and losing the railgun and holy crap they're a different beast XD accidentally waltz into a patrol and suddenly firing squad, that shit spoopy.
One thing i will say about the disappointment of only 2 factions, they have set up the map in a way where it might be possible to have a war on 4 fronts, thet would be neat to have all 3 factions back plus maybe a possible traitor faction.
One thing to note about the "battle pass" it's like Halo in the fact that it's not time limited. Once you buy into the pass you can work on it at anytime
I was watching this on RUclips on my Xbox. And this is like one of the games where I saw the game plan like holy s***This is the best f****** game I've ever seen my entire life. And I am merely went to the game store by it all into. Sadly, realize that it's only exclusive to PlayStation 5 and Microsoft windows. The good news is that I have Steam. So I can most likely buy it, but it was the sudden realization that it was a good game that I couldn't get on console
Truly an amazing review especially with the added knowledge from the previous game. This is so far the best review I've seen for this title and I'm keeping a close eye on it. Wonderful work. 👌👏
Just to let everyone know the steam armor you can get a free version called hero of the people that has the exact same effect in the game. It’s in the free war bond part about three to 4 down
The problem that I have with these games has nothing to do with Helldivers 2 itself but rather with the 4 player co-op genre as a whole. All of these devs are making games for exactly four players. It's like they can't comprehend that a friend group that doesn't fit that exact number not only exists but is pretty common. My gaming group has anywhere between 3-9 people available at any one time. It's really hard to play a 4-player game without intentionally excluding people. (And doing two parallel games rarely works either because they are balanced to require exactly 4 players.) Whenever a game like this pops up: Pulsar, Sea of Thieves, Deep Rock Galactic, 40K Darktide, etc... A couple people in the group get really excited about it. Most of us buy it, the hard-core players immediately proceed to burn themselves out in the course of a couple weeks (and, if it's a game with progression, leave everyone else in the dust). And by the time the people with actual lives are wanting to give it a go, the rest of the group is burned out and moving on. I have 3-4 games in my library that I have literally never played (and many more that I've only played a few times) because I missed the window of interest when people were actually playing it. I'd have even more if I hadn't stopped buying these kind of games. Don't get me wrong, the game looks fun. But I'll never be able to play it because of group dynamics. :/
I was a hardcore of the original and my heart sank when I found out they went with 3rd person. But I was way wrong HD2 is so much more fun and I am saving resources like crazy for when the mechs and vehicles arrive.
The Illuminate race was defeated after the first game. We stole their tech which gave us FTL travel and made it possible to colonize the galaxy during the 100 years since. I doubt they will be an enemy race in HD2, unless they somehow manage to fight back after we beat them 100 years ago. I personally hope Arrowhead adds another, completely new race. They have also confirmed that the Mech is coming shortly after launch.
The weapon drag really does sound terrible, on paper. But I can not properly express the feeling of joy I felt dragging my Machine Gun across the screen, trigger held tight, as I mowed down bugs trying to flank me. I'm only a few hours in, but I already love this game with all my being.

This game has been my life since release, I WILL bring liberty to the galaxy One Bullet at a time
Love the use of the Mechanicus speech for the mechanical enemies.
It goes so hard.
The devs mentioned mech strategems will be added in the future :3
All hail the Omnissiah!
I didn't expect this sort of video to pop up in my sub notifs, but by god is this a fantastic watch. Now I want more Zoran Reviews.
You vs terminids: I'm doing my part
You vs automaton: hulk boosted Terminators
There is a road map that says we will get vehicles in a future patch and I assume that also mean more ship upgrades too
To save our Super Earth from any alien attack, from vicious giant insects who have once again come back. We'll unleash all our firepower, we won't cut them any slack, the EDF Deploys!
i just blast the 40k Mechanicus soundtrack when fighting automatons
As for the armor passives from the deluxe edition you were talking about, you can find several with the same effects in the free pass.
I've been using the Defender with my shield to great effect.
i didn’t even realize the dreadnought one, the more i think of it automatons are really just necrons with imperium tech
Being overwhelmed in HD1 was pretty good and felt stressful. But in HD2, being swarmed has never been so intense and stress inducing. I absolutely love it.
Can we all agree that mechanicus part read by Zoran was absolutely MAGICAL?!
they just need to give us a twin auto cannon mech so I can FINALLY live out my fantasy of piloting a goliath from starcraft lol.
Love that you can feel it’s definetly heavily inspired by 40k and starship troopers.
Do you think because they have the Terminids and Automatons, they might add a new version of the Illuminate as a future enemy type?
I think so, yes. I think they're going to add them but it's taking longer than the other two enemy factions because of how their abilities work. I can imagine the Illuminate can be difficult to implement in 3D as opposed to 2D.
Everytime i start up my game, i force myself to watch the cinematic, because its just that good
The biggest difference in the armours are the buff.
For the Emperor of Mankind- I mean SuperEarth!
The transition from the first game to the second in terms of perspective is great. The only other franchise that successfully transitioned perspective is the transition from 2d platformer to a 3rd person shooter that Risk of rain pulled off
Finally someone mentioned Han Solo movie 😂 Its literally first thing that came to my head when I saw those fights in fog
4:00
honestly its the missile guys that get me haha
The bottom of the upside-down pyramid
Yoooo the edf reference tho 😂
150MM Cannon FIRE
Supply Pack has put in an obscene amount of weight in my games; sure you get the dopamine hit of being the team’s That Good Guy, but you also can just do your own thing and go hard in the paint more than usual since you can fully restock yourself far more frequently without taking anything from the team.
This is the best review of this game out there.
Oh, "Be careful of Space 'Nam." I see. Even the closed captions didn't pick that up.
Okay, this actually has me interested.
Red flares. So many red flares.
They are in the trees speaking binary to us.
We will not go home.
Been playing it with old buddies from PlanetSide 2. Been a load of fun so far. Biggest issue at the moment is the log in queue. There are also some balancing issues for some missions like evacuate civilians that need some lookovers. Overall, great game.
As someone who has never heard of Helldivers before, this is a good fucking game.
I wonder what the third enemy will be and how they’ll be more terrifying
I'm glad I wasn't the only one having massive EDF vibes from this game lol
Holy moly I haven't seen one of your vids since early Planetside 2 days. Glad to see your still around
I've been busy streaming and running TTRPG shows. And thank you! Trying to get back in the groove of Youtubing.
Terminids and troopers look suspiciously like Tyranids and Astra Militarum I'm sure there's no coincidence.
Arrowhead has photos of their people playing 40k in the office IIRC
we've got our legally distinct nids and crons
though that said, pretty much any big space bugs look pretty similar
There is just so much that I discovered mechanically that prevents me from hating this game.
I pissed myshelf by laughing from the intro video in the Game 😂😂😂
Vehicles and mechs will be added to the game later on.
It's (according some dialogue with a crewmember on the Super Destroyer) been around 100 years since the first galactic war (HD1).
One thing to note about the "battle pass" it's like Halo in the fact that it's not time limited. Once you buy into the pass you can work on it at anytime
Vehicle statagems (specifically the mechs) are planned for the first content release.
The assault walkers are in a future update. Don't know when though
I was a hardcore of the original and my heart sank when I found out they went with 3rd person. But I was way wrong HD2 is so much more fun and I am saving resources like crazy for when the mechs and vehicles arrive.
They confirmed that mechs are coming to the game. So exited
Just bought this first time playing helldivers it's fun as hell love it
Glad they pulled it off. Helldivers 1 was so good but not many played it.
I like how he made the dreadnaught comparison but didn't make the much more obvious tyranid comparison
