Jim Chalmers urged to ‘turn the mirror onto himself’ with inflation issue

  • Shadow Finance Minister Jane Hume discusses the "continuation of the war” between Treasurer Jim Chalmers and the Reserve Bank.
    A war of words between the Treasurer and the RBA has escalated quite dramatically this morning after Jim Chalmers claimed it's the Reserve Bank and its high interest rates that are “smashing the economy”.
    “You’ll recall that when Labor first came to government, Jim Chalmers blamed overseas factors for high inflation,” Ms Hume told Sky News Australia.
    “Then he blamed Philip Lowe and now he is blaming his handpicked replacement for Philip Lowe - Michele Bullock for high inflation.
    “At some point, he has got to turn the mirror onto himself and say what is it that the government can be doing.”

    Isn't it funny how when interst rates first went up by 25 basis under the LNP that Jim said it was the government fault. Now that interest rates have gone up 12 times under Labor, it's now the RBA's fauit and not the Labor governments fault. Can't have it both ways Jim.

    Australia is in the midst of an energy crisis. This is the fundamental driver of 'Cost of Living.' We also needed a means to temper outrageous domestic house price rises which are counterproductive and are a bubble in the economy. A search for retained value in investment. Our prosperity requires we have low cost energy. We should have a plebiscite and if you are a Greens Teal supporter and want to pay twice as much for your energy to feel virtuous you would indicate this. Those who want coal fired reasonable cost would vote for cheaper energy. people would then use their universal ID card and those who are virtuous would pay twice as much for food and groceries, twice as much for their rent. those who sign on to transition much slower with nuclear would pay 50% less. We have the technology and if you want virtue you can pay for it yourself!

    Inflation in Q3 was 3.8% - up from 3.5% in Q2. The RBA needs to act for months now it has failed to bring inflation under control. 50 basis points increase would have had this under control if it had been implemented in Q1. Rent inflation was at 7% at the end of Q2 and food inflation was at 3.3%. Producer prices were up an alarming 4.8% at the end of Q2.

Saying you won't waste money on solar is rubbish when it is a technological feat that every country is doing. Labelling solar as one of majors faults and then saying that you won't even do it better is not competitive. That's leaving billions of $AUD to be mishandled by the next government, just for labour to mismanage it from the opposition.

  • @gcarbo
    @gcarbo 14 дней назад

    Jane Hume. You're mistaken. The RBA is as responsible as much as the National Treasury for accepting buying our own Australian sobering debt. The RBA buys Australian bonds to protect the bond market where Australia finance itself and avoids these nominal interest on the bonds going beyond what has been agreed upon with the Treasury. For this, the RBA creates money from thin air. The Treasury sells bonds to subside the public deficit, meaning the government spends more than it collects. Creating money from thin air is called debasement of the Australian dollar, reflecting inflation. The rise of interest by the RBA only affects the interest of fractional reserve banking lending, which occurs when individuals and businesses borrow money from banks. However, it does not affect the Australian government, which has a blank check to spend on anything they want to earn votes. This is an unlegislated tax, and people must know it. It is called money debasement, perpetuating anyone in power to keep printing with the wrong incentives. I'm deeply concerned that you are not pointing this out and making the direct problem of deficit and debasement of money a word salad. Are you competent enough to take the Australian economy into your own hands?

By having more Public service personnel all voting for Labor that gave them a secure well-paid job and all the rorts that go with it by increasing immigration to the tune of over 1 Million people in only 18 months all possibly voting for Labor for letting them into a Country as soft as Australia with all the benefits that new immigrants get.
