- Shadow Finance Minister Jane Hume discusses the "continuation of the war” between Treasurer Jim Chalmers and the Reserve Bank.
A war of words between the Treasurer and the RBA has escalated quite dramatically this morning after Jim Chalmers claimed it's the Reserve Bank and its high interest rates that are “smashing the economy”.
“You’ll recall that when Labor first came to government, Jim Chalmers blamed overseas factors for high inflation,” Ms Hume told Sky News Australia.
“Then he blamed Philip Lowe and now he is blaming his handpicked replacement for Philip Lowe - Michele Bullock for high inflation.
“At some point, he has got to turn the mirror onto himself and say what is it that the government can be doing.”
The RBA's job is to fix the stuff ups of the government. Labor only has themselves to blame.
Happens every time Labor are running the country it goes to shit , when will you people who voted for these insipid morons wake up .
The worst treasurer ever in Australia he always plays the blame game on someone else.
It is why a fair, credible & impartial media is needed, it wont be found here.
Chalmers just wants to be like Keating

Isn't it funny how when interst rates first went up by 25 basis under the LNP that Jim said it was the government fault. Now that interest rates have gone up 12 times under Labor, it's now the RBA's fauit and not the Labor governments fault. Can't have it both ways Jim.
Yeah funny that...
Yes Albo and Grim Jim blame everyone and everything else for their incompetence!!
12 rate rises under Labor proceeds to blame RBA or Peter Dutton. No responsibility at all.
He knows only one statement - Albanese government is great government, he don't care about people struggling 😢
doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough, doing it tough,
So the trainee treasurer reshaped the RBA to his liking, and he still doesn’t like it. Ok mate, so reverse the RBA’s rate decisions. You have the power.
with Charmers and labour party its always some one else's fault never there's
Most clueless Government ever..
Thereby dangerous
Politicians don’t talk about the size of mortgage debt…. Uncomfortable truth they all ignore
Jim the Grim is starting to show his true colours!!
Started when he got elected to office.
Albanese, Chalmers et al. "Not our fault, NEVER our fault". Well past time we flipped this lot!
Chalmers could not run the economics of a Kebab Shop.
Charmers Old Chestnut "war in Ukraine" not working anymore??
You can tell he is lying if the ears get bigger
Labour playing the blame game, won't take responsibility for anything
How do we have a Treasurer that has never own a business , nor does he have a degree in economics, how is that possible that he is running our finances. We are doomed
Needs a degree in the bleeding obvious ..writings on the wall
Crazy isn't it that he can get the Treasurer job!!😢
He's our illustrious PM Albosleeze's mate from uni@
Chalmers ad nauseam comment - "We know that people are doing it tough"
IF they know they don't care. They of course do not know they have had huge pay rises.
Charmers in pyjamas has always been a fake
Snake Chalmers 🐍

If Chalmers faces it - he might have apoplexy.

Ahh, the same university that Dan Andrews went to. He got distinctions in bullshit spin!!
@dominictucci6030 unfortunately labor is full of these wef puppets
It is Duttons fault😊

Governent policy is driving inflation , immigration, power, rental cost, insurance cost, etc
"None of it helps the Australian mortgage holder"
Sell.
The help that is in dire need is for Renters! - Not even the appreciated asset of a home to offload and under a cloud of shelter insecurity with the tightness in the rental market thanks to Government mass immigration policy.
You got to be kidding. Take no responsibility Chalmers.
F the two major uni parties
So it's the RBA's fault. Maybe you should look at your policies. especially the excess immigration one..
Australia is in the midst of an energy crisis. This is the fundamental driver of 'Cost of Living.' We also needed a means to temper outrageous domestic house price rises which are counterproductive and are a bubble in the economy. A search for retained value in investment. Our prosperity requires we have low cost energy. We should have a plebiscite and if you are a Greens Teal supporter and want to pay twice as much for your energy to feel virtuous you would indicate this. Those who want coal fired reasonable cost would vote for cheaper energy. people would then use their universal ID card and those who are virtuous would pay twice as much for food and groceries, twice as much for their rent. those who sign on to transition much slower with nuclear would pay 50% less. We have the technology and if you want virtue you can pay for it yourself!
Absolutely ,,cheap fuel and electricity is the key to a prosperous society with good living standards for all people.
High energy costs force inflation higher .
Blah blah blah 😂...they know everything...but they won't do anything 😅...LOL jokers.
Vote Labor out forever.
Jimbo's reflection...
" HAS AN EXCUSE FOR EVERYTHING, AND A PLAN FOR NOTHING..."
It's either we invest OR get rid of the Electoral College and let We the People of the United States of America choose our own leaders!
Which unfortunately takes 2/3 of congressional support in each state in order to enact
It would require a constitutional amendment, so it's more something to work towards than something likely to happen any time soon I will invest for the tomorrow.
whomsoever created the Electorate College was a whimp, certainly. Haha just cash 70k from crypto 💯
RIGHT!
Vote ALL Republicans out of office NOW and FOREVER!
Bye-Bye Electoral College.

Hume speaks sense, unlike Ssssnake Chalmers.
Didnt Albo say. His government was going to be transparent and a FRIENDLIER gOVERNMENT and fix everything
Jim .... way too many Public Servants and high taxes to pay for them ............ Cut / reduce your numbers !!!!
Another hopeless Labor politician
Labor caused this inflationary mess in the economy .
The reserve bank is trying to fix it .
Thirteen interest rate rises in less than two years .
Jim chalmers would not no what day of the week it is
This Treasurer hasn't a clue..bring on the next Election
Not one of these incompetent ministers has the qualifications, skills set or experience for the portfolio they are entrusted with. Grim Jim the Claytons Treasurer.
Oh no,i think he spends alot of time looking in mirror. At himself.
Hahaha you can tell he's a Labor Loser. Always blaming someone else. If ever Australia needed a good treasurer it's now. And Chalmers ain't it.
Inflation in Q3 was 3.8% - up from 3.5% in Q2. The RBA needs to act for months now it has failed to bring inflation under control. 50 basis points increase would have had this under control if it had been implemented in Q1. Rent inflation was at 7% at the end of Q2 and food inflation was at 3.3%. Producer prices were up an alarming 4.8% at the end of Q2.
Actually, it's aggregate demand exceeding aggregate supply. This is a function of high immigration, high government spending - state and federal - high energy and service costs as well as poor productivity. Tight fiscal policy is required.
Inflation 101 : high expenditure that does not translate into higher productivity
People who are talking to each other blame each other, Is not war, war is when people pass through guns ,bombs and starvation. These are people arguing about our future with complete disregard for our country and peoples. This is politics not war .
Charmless: la lal la la I can't hear you
When in opposition , Labor called for the fuel excise tax to be cut.
Now in Government ,,nothing but silence as they increase the excise twice every year and we pay high petrol and diesel prices every week.
I think the goal of the opposition should to be competitive, not to just slide in okay. Saying you won't waste money on solar is rubbish when it is a technological feat that every country is doing. Labelling solar as one of majors faults and then saying that you won't even do it better is not competitive. That's leaving billions of $AUD to be mishandled by the next government, just for labour to mismanage it from the opposition.
Blackout Bowen on a push bike not a private jet is my wish.
Stand by Damn the bankrupt man...at least he got an award for it
Jim you grim piece of work
Chalmers can only charm a 🐍
Banks create money out of nothing thus hath the benefit of interests, rich individuals and corporations benefit on interest for doing nothing, moreover interfering prior, during and after any election with large money donations thus influencing current and future policies to achieve one sole objective, gain. The majority pays the price with inflation an increasingly higher taxes, meanwhile the career politicians enjoy high social status, higher wages and the rich gets richer.
Fuel excise has doubled since Labor came into power. Who’s he gonna blame for that ???
I bet Chalmers doesn't waste his own money like he wastes our taxes
I don't mind Jim Chalmers too much, think he got appointed at a difficult time in the economy. However, why do we have a system where the treasurer of the country is not an economist? Seems crazy!
Jane Hume. You're mistaken. The RBA is as responsible as much as the National Treasury for accepting buying our own Australian sobering debt. The RBA buys Australian bonds to protect the bond market where Australia finance itself and avoids these nominal interest on the bonds going beyond what has been agreed upon with the Treasury. For this, the RBA creates money from thin air. The Treasury sells bonds to subside the public deficit, meaning the government spends more than it collects. Creating money from thin air is called debasement of the Australian dollar, reflecting inflation. The rise of interest by the RBA only affects the interest of fractional reserve banking lending, which occurs when individuals and businesses borrow money from banks. However, it does not affect the Australian government, which has a blank check to spend on anything they want to earn votes. This is an unlegislated tax, and people must know it. It is called money debasement, perpetuating anyone in power to keep printing with the wrong incentives. I'm deeply concerned that you are not pointing this out and making the direct problem of deficit and debasement of money a word salad. Are you competent enough to take the Australian economy into your own hands?
The mirror would break, no mirror, mirror on the wall who is the worst treasurer of all time.
Chalmers had a PhD in political science. He had no clue about economics.
Why does Albanese need 36000 new public servants if anything due to his incompetence he should have fewer people in the Public service. I will answer this question for the people of Australia. By having more Public service personnel all voting for Labor that gave them a secure well-paid job and all the rorts that go with it by increasing immigration to the tune of over 1 Million people in only 18 months all possibly voting for Labor for letting them into a Country as soft as Australia with all the benefits that new immigrants get.
just another labor dud.
And an average income gearing by the revenue CONSUMERS against the Revenue PRODUCERS of 1 to 1.60. Not including entitlements & Military sector exempt.

Voters anger turns towards Peter Dutton after the LNPs Pittwater MP Rory Amon was arrested and charged for raping a 13 year old boy...
This heinous act only increases pressure on Peter Dutton to stand down after the LNP forgot to register candidates for the upcoming council elections surrounding Sydney as questions in relation to his son's social media post and nuclear energy policy continue to go unanswered....
Dutton is the most inept LNP political leader in modern Australian history
No voter anger is turning against ALP who knowingly used corrupt money and proceeds of crime donated by thugs at CMFEU to fund ALP's campaign of lies and broken promises in 2022 election
why should dutton stand down for the mistakes of others in his party??
shall we make a list of the mistakes made by albo's members?
should he resign??

SKY LIES: ****CBA cuts interest rates for new borrowers****
23 Aug 2024 - CBA also cut fixed rates across one-, two-, three- and four-year terms by up to 0.7 of a percentage point on Friday. But most new mortgage ...
Fixed loans are the worst loans. Zero control for 4 years, no offset, yuck 🤮. It’s down 0.7 cause they know full well that these high rates won’t last another year, then all those fixed rate holders will be in a world of poor for 3 more years.
Not lower than the RBA cash rates numb nuts ..they are competing between the banks u knucklehead
That's because the arse is falling out of the economy and the banks can see it.
*Commonwealth bank slashes fixed and variable rates* 😂😂FACT CHECKING
**Another major bank has moved to slash fixed and variable rates, following other lenders including Westpac and NAB. August 23, 2024 - 8:04PM** According to Sky Fake News this didn't happen or helps those in Business or with House mortgages.
Could you please reference the video that specifically claims these banks did not lower their rates? You do know that the RBA is not the same as the CBA right? I cannot figure out why the banks would reduce their rates just to suck in more fools to then throw them under the debt bus (sarcasm).
Welcome to the Dominican Repellbic they have fake news too
