The new features are cool and all, but not cool enough for me as a normal user to upgrade to premium especially with such high price point.
The one thing that really annoyed me is you introduce "Sent with Spark" tag line on free plan. I don't know if this meant to drive people to upgrade to premium or not but for me it just drives my decision to delete this app and find a new one.
The reason I choose Spark over Spike was Spark offer basic functions with no horrible marketing tactic but now it's gone.

      Hi Austin!
      Sorry for the delayed reply
Sent with Spark is a tagline that is placed under the Signature in composer and email and contains the link to the website where users can download Spark. It gives a viral effect and promotes Spark to get free registrations via the feature: when a recipient of the email sees the tagline with the link to the Spark website, he can download it and try it himself.
We considered this to be a small thing a free user can do to promote the new Spark. However, we collect all the feedback on this new feature, and our Product team may consider updating the logic for it in the future.
Also, those who used Spark before the Desktop version release can disable it for free.

I’m sorry but offering up users advanced features for a subscription is perfectly acceptable but tossing in an advertisement for the app that each non subscribed user has to delete in every email is just malicious, especially at that price point.
Sure, lock it behind a small one time fee if need be but this approach is enough to drive me towards other email applications despite being a long term user and supporter of Spark.

Ugly ass design worse than gmail, sent with spark automatically added for free users and 70 euros per year subscription, yeah no that ain't it, good luck you're gonna need it.

But £60 isn’t something I could ever justify, let alone at a time like this when everyone is having to cut costs and worry about putting food in the table and heating their homes. £30 a year would be much more reasonable and if the new services can’t be run at that price point then they aren’t viable and shouldn’t have been included. Please do better market research on such drastic changes to much loved apps in future.

@@Jebble347 I'd actually like to support the Devs is the thing, but I honestly feel that this price is more than the app is worth. I have no problem paying for an app/service I use all the time, but £60 a year just isn't worth it for this. At £30 I think they would have people subscribing but at £60, it's too much to ask. I appreciate that some features (large attachments) may come at a cost to opperate, but if you can't charge a fee the market will accept then that feature isn't feasible financially. I think Readle should have looked at whatbtheir users would be willing to pay and factor that in when developing this update.

  • @iXzenoS

A subscription-based freemium model for a simple, daily email app is such a disappointing step in the wrong direction. Greedy business decision trying to ride the Adobe/Microsoft/SaaS bandwagon - but the latter at least offers a wide suite of individual apps that are essential for professional use. Why would any user pay $5-10 per month just to read some emails when there are great FREE alternatives like Gmail and Thunderbird? Most enterprises who need advanced functions would just use Google Workspace or MS 365 for Business.
I suggest you terminate the stupid subscriptions, make Spark Premium a one-time, lifetime purchase around $30, and carry on.

Oh dear. The new app doesn't offer anything of real value, it's assumed value. The interface makes awful use of screen space. It has completely overlooked that people have ways they like to organise their emails, and forced/assumed new ways on them. The assumed scheduling of when you'd like to look at your emails (athough get-roundable) is a presumptuous joke. What's also NOT reasonable at all is for the installer to have claims of reviews trust ratings which are clearly for the outgoing Spark, which is a completely different application! The use of electron doesn't bode well, Spark had already become a slow responding, slow to synchronise application - when Evernote moved to electron it brought those kinds of problems with it. Such a shame that Spark haven't come up with anything evolutionary that improves on the last version. The other thing many people are mentioning is the subscription cost - I think if Spark had fixed the outgoing version's problems some people would be up for paying, but for this? See the comments on this thread, they speak volumes.
I lasted a day or so with this new version, but really I knew it was a no-go after 5 minutes. It is now uninstalled.
If anyone is a MacOS user and are interested in a project that does look interesting as a fast email client (for google accounts only), take a look at Mimestream. It is in Beta but it looks really interesting and runs very quickly indeed!

Now Windows is HERE and it's better than I could have imagined. It's a true cross-platform app that syncs across all my devices! It's simple and does what I need without too much clutter. Readdle is not a charity or part of a multi-billion dollar company that can release software as a lost leader. It needs to pay its employees and keep the lights on.

Even basic functionalities require the premium subscription, for example the simple function of "sending an email without having a forced adds at the end". Plus, the app was free since more than 4 years, and the light was on for them. Adding premium features with premium subscription is okay, everybody does that, why not Readdle? They did it for Calendars, with a decent price, and everything went well. But killing basic features even for legacy users is not okay at all. In addition, the price is high for this kind of tools. Usually, basic features are free and premium features are priced. This is not the case here.
Anyway, your justification is biased, as you completely forgot all the company making profit without selling their products to basic customer (open-sourced and free software, and I don't talk about company selling your data like gmail or other).

I really like it and can't understand people who using Spark for free since years complaining about when asking to pay for features. 🎉

It's not about paying, it's about the price point. It is absolutely to high for a private user. Or at least most of them.

Blocking emails isn’t something revolutionary. It should be baked in a a basic feature. Not something you have to PAY to do.

I've been using Spark few years - the free version because I don't need team support. The new design is finally here! And I like it. And I'll be happy to support the Spark team with a subscription and hope the new Spark will continue to improve because I am missing a few features I would expect for paid software. But thumbs up for now.
