My son suggested me watching some tutorials to get more out of Notes and Reminders on both my iPhone and iPad. I found yours both informative and simple to follow. I have now signed up to your weekly emails as well. Thank you for making things so easy for a 75 year old!
What a fine fellow you are! Sublime presentations and for that, this seventy-year-old newcomer to iPhone, I thank you--my wife talked me in to using her old iPhone cast off. I had used a Nokia 6700 for some twenty-two years swearing of the new technology. Great structure and content for me. 😉
Thank you so much. You've addressed several things here that I was wondering about that are not covered in the other videos I've found. And a BIG thanks for making the distinction between the Reminders list and the other lists...I'm new to using Reminders and it functions a little differently than the other To Do apps I've used.
Since getting my first Apple device I use Reminders all the time and nothing else. I have found it very easy to use and it works pretty darn good for me. After showing my wife that we can share a shopping list and no longer have to use a 3rd party app she has used the Reminders app and has deleted her 3rd party shopping app. Thanks for all the informative Apple/iPhone videos I have learned tons of things about the iPhone and it's eco system.
Im new to ios and my devise is Apple phone 14. I was an android fan initially. But once into ios now I regularly follow you. And this time I simply admire todays topic and the way you made it so intriguing.
I personally never got enough out of Reminders, and didn’t understand it for a long time. Now I use Things 3 on my work iPad and on my iPhone to keep work to-dos and projects straight, and it’s such a powerful tool I don’t think I could ever swap over.
One of the really cool things is that you can now drag and drop reminders into the calendar app and vice versa. If you're a big to do list guy that just can't commit to when to do certain things because of too many variables in you life, you can have many different to do lists and drag and drop individual task into the calendar app when you see fit... 😁
@@MyUsernameLovesMe You need to be running Monterey for it to work. Make sure the reminder is selected and just drag it onto anywhere you would like it in Calendars. It didn't work for me until I upgraded to Monterey...
@@Nightflyer720 Actually it does work in IOS as well. Just drag and drop any reminder (it seems) into the calendar onto the day view, and it creates an event for that reminder right there where you have dragged it. how do you link your notes to reminders app???? I have been wondering if there is a way to do that. You say you can share it to reminder but how one does that?
Didn't use reminders before... Everything either went into notes or agenda... I guess this is the perfect middle ground, I'll see what works best for me and what to put where...
Excellent video. My wife and I share grocery, Walmart, Costco etc. I share a to do list with my grown children which includes projects they want me to help them with when we visit. Love this app.

I recently switched from Microsoft To Do, and I really miss the "My Day" feature. It was so easy to add all the tasks I planned to work on for the day to the My Day list. Hopefully Apple Reminders catches up!
thanks for this video your narration was excellent. been using the Reminders app for quite a while but I never used it to share a Shopping list with my wife..thanks for the idea now I have one and it works perfectly…thanks again
Another really helpful video Tom. I’m a big reminders user but still picked up on a few things I didn’t know. One of if not the best channels for getting to grips with all things apple.
Nice video and very helpful. So far I think to google still doing better work to add tasks and reminders to the agenda. It Is possible to see all you need to do on one page or app. I still waiting for Apple to show my notes on the calendar to stop using google.
I just recently switched from using Calendar as a reminders app to the actual Reminders app and it just simplified my workflow quite a bit. Now no need to edit the reminder entry in Calendar to mark it as done, just touch the widget in Reminders and it's done. Way faster.
I do have a question, since i am a student, i want to be reminded of my assignments daily. For example if i have an assignment due on Tuesday, i would wanted to be reminded from friday to monday. Can we do that?
Really enjoy your product reviews... some of the best coverage, and best presentations I have seen... Apple would be impressed with your presentations and knowledge... Keep it up, Regards, -BC
Thanks for the tip on how to edit the Reminders widget. It always defaults to the Today list. After watching your video, I’m now able to edit the widget to display the Today list. Thanks again.
I never use the reminders app. I actually thought I had deleted it, but it’s in the App Library. I use a combo of notes and calendar to keep track of everything.
Hi Proper Honest Tech, another great video. I need to create a monthly to do list of 14 tasks. I will be checking items off as i complete them throughout the month. I guess you could call it a rolling to do list, which on any given day will show my completed tasks, on the list, from previous days in the month, as well as the tasks which are still outstanding. Is this possible in reminders? Any help appreciated.
I've already praised this video, it's fantastic. And now for a request...since you are so good with Reminders and clearly well organized, I would love it if you would make a video about ways to organize your day from within Reminders. That is, if history serves as proof, I'm going to have hundreds of "To Do" items that I don't want to forget...some urgent, some with dates and times, some for "someday" without a date and time. I could end up with 10 lists, and sure I might even group some of them to make it look cleaner. But then what...do you go through every list every night, through hundreds of items, to sort out what you should do the next day? I know there are many apps out recently, often with AI features, that help you plan your day and keep you on schedule (like Structured) but I'm not sure if I need to resort to yet another app, or if I can keep myself organized and not forget things using just Reminders and Notes...the free apps at my disposal. I'm betting you have an opinion on this!
yeah, i'd really like that feature as well. currently, I'm using an app called structured for a daily planner that combines reminders and the calendar but it doesn't show you a calendar on a broader scale (say a week, or a month) which is not quite what I'm looking for.
I can recommend BusyCal for doing just this and showing your reminders in it and you can tick them off too as you complete them within the app and it will sync with reminders. It's not free, but it is very worthwhile, IMHO. I'm nothing to do with the developer, I just like the product. You can get a free month's trial to see if it works for you 😀
I used Todoist but it eas really bad at sync, and it gradualky became more obscure. A few years back Reminders stepped up, and only thing I miss is Calendar sync. I also went from that note-app with a green elephant, but now I use Notes.
Do you know how to set a repeatable reminder with repeatable subtasks? I have a recurring reminder with a bunch of subtasks I have to carry out every month. Unfortunately, once crossed out the subtasks don’t appear “new” the next month when the main task comes up. I had to use notes instead of subtasks for this purpose.
I've not used the Reminders app on an iPhone probably ever, but thought this could be helpful. However, I am discovering that my version of Reminders has far fewer features than yours and it doesn't appear to have any sort of update available. Any thoughts?
I have lots of to-do apps, but I tend to use a calendar accessible on my watch using MemoMa. It's the calendar on which I store what I eat. I need to lose weight. Then when I get home and can load calendars on my Mac, I move the non-food entries from the weight loss calendar to the appropriate calendar. I have one for notes (reminders, to-dos, random thoughts, etc.), one for Appointments, and one for Medical. When I was teaching (I just retired), I also used a calendar for my university (classes, meetings, etc.). All calendars were different colors so it was easy to see to which calendar an entry belonged. Based on this video, I will now test out Apple's Reminders app. It looks like I will have to add an entry to Today (at the top of the list screen) and then move them when I get home. I would rather have the lists on the top of the watch face as a list entry is typical of what I might add.
Thanks, Tom. I watch what you and others do with this app however I still have the feeling that Reminders is something between Notes and Calendar. I still haven't found any reason to start using it. I use Notes 30 hrs a day + Cal. I put all Note "reminders" there and share them with others via Cal or iCloud. Again, thanks for what you are doing for us. :-) J
I’d love it if when you complete a reminder/to do it records the data and time it was completed. A reappearing to do list would be nice. Ie you complete the task then it reappears to start the list again fresh. I’d also like multiple alerts to the reminder. Ie one day, a week,or a month before the reminder actually reminds you. MS To Do does this. Some features need to overlap with Notes and Calendar.
As always, your videos are informative and clear. Maybe you could do a video on the differences and uses or Reminders and Apple Notes as they seem similar and makes it confusing to me which to use and when and why?
Just found this video. This is so helpful, been using a iPhone for the past 12 years and never used this app. now it's my best friend that i am retired 😄. Thank you.

This was a fun video to watch. I really need to utilize this feature more and more. Very easy to follow on the iPhone. I noticed on the Mac the subtasks feature is not available. Is there a work-around for that or do you recommend another method when using the Mac? Or if you have a reminders video for the Mac please let me know and I'll watch that. 👏🏽
It is available, you just need to be in the list, eg. Not the today view. You will then see subtasks. Also to add, create a task and drag and you can add it as a sub task
Such a good video I’ll be using this tips for sure. I remember that I used to set reminders to call or text someone in my contacts and the app gave me the option to call directly from the reminder, now I can’t find that option or ask Siri, has this been removed or how can I set it up again?
This is an excellent video with many solid advanced tips. As a former android user, I have tons of lists in Google Keep with no easy way to move them over. I think iOS’ implementation of subtasks is cumbersome to google keep where you just indented the subtask from the main list without needing to go into a sub menu. If you have your office365 account added to apple mail (even if just for contacts and calendar etc), the tasks list will sync nicely with outlook on the desktop/web and it will show you all your flagged email as well. There are not many wins for us PC users when it comes to iOS integration but this is definitely one of them.
Hey, i got the iPhone 12, but i don’t have the flag box or within making a reminder; the flag button or Camera is greyed out, not letting me use it, can you help what might be wrong or how can I fix it. I have the lasted update. Love your videos! Very in-depth .
One thing that's annoying is if you have a task with subtasks the easiest way to see them is in the task's main list. In Today or Flagged to see the subtasks you have to tap on the "i" and scroll down to the bottom and tap 'subtasks'. Also, attachments look different depending on whether you're looking at them in a list or Today, etc. I wish there was consistency among views.

For some reason, “location” and “when messaging” doesn’t seem to work for me. I wonder if the 16 update just needs to work some bugs out?
Thanks for the video! Is it still possible to link someone from your contacts to a specific task item? For example, I'd like to set a reminder to text John tomorrow afternoon. How do I set this task and have the text message icon appear on the right side of this reminder so I can simple click on it and am taken to my text thread with John in the message app? Can this be done with the phone, FaceTime, & Email apps as well? Are there specific settings that need to be configured for these functions to work in Reminders?
The Reminders app is where many of my brain dumps occur-completely INDISPENSABLE to my existence! I use the Calendar app for journaling, amongst other things, so that’s another valuable brain dump site for me.

I’m learning a lot from your channel and I just started following you ❤
You've moved up on my list!! thank you!!!
Just found you on YT and am enjoying the fact that you focus on a topic and provide clear explanations of their functionality. Thank you!
Thanks in part to your excellent videos, I will be leaving Android for iPhone! Keep the great content coming.
Thank you for the informative video! It has given me ideas how to use reminders on my iPhone. Great examples!
Especially intergrating Reminder and Ticktick, have really tried, but it's giving me a headache.
Very good info. I will definitely implement this app into my work. Thank you!
The Reminders app is where many of my brain dumps occur-completely INDISPENSABLE to my existence! I use the Calendar app for journaling, amongst other things, so that’s another valuable brain dump site for me.
I'm missing message and flags under my details. I've updated running 16.2
