Really appreciate you showing the differences in particle size/shiftyness. I’ve tried just about every brand that has holos and imo nobody does holo better than Electrum Cosmetics. They’re extremely shifty, shiny, and the holo is very intense and doesn’t sit on top or sparse through. A lot of them are almost like pastel multi holos. I also really love Bella beaute bars single holos because they’re larger and more noticeable on the eye but they aren’t multichrome. Glam shops are really good but most have dark bases and unfortunately they’ve discontinued most of them. Touch of Glams are good but definitely not worth the price and some have dark bases/don’t shift even though they’re labeled multi. Quicksands are also not worth the price they’re like fantasy cosmetica and aren’t shiny at all. Really hoping to see more holos for 2024!

Holo particles have an aluminium layer that can block light entering or exiting particles below it and cause an overall duller or silvery effect. Also, there are just fewer shifting pigments whenever others are added. Shadows definitely need a high concentration of holo particles for full travelling rainbow effect. Holo particles have more waveform structure, whereas shifting pigments are more plate-like (similar to butterfly wings) - less waveform pigments and you get less of a travelling wave effect.

Loving these! I fell in love with Holo eyeshadows 3 years ago with Glam shop. I'm so happy it's entering the more well known indie makeup scene! I am currently waiting for Vega from Electrum Cosmetics to arrive and I am curious how it will compare to the other holos in my collection. Btw cleaning up those swatches was probably a story of its own 😂😂

Another *super* helpful swatching video, tysm ❤️ You inspired me to swatch my holochrome collection and I found that my Bipolar Sparkle (Australian handmade single shadow brand) single shadows have that delightful rainbow banding as light travels across it. By comparison, some holo shadows in palettes are more scattered (maybe it is a bit cheaper that way?) but I am definitely converted to the rainbow banded effect. p.s. I am not affiliated with the brand, just a makeup fan, Bipolar Sparkle has a 'mystery duo' holo shadow sale right now which converts to US 15 dollars and seven cents for two of their holo singles.
I prefer holo shades without the multichrome because the different effects compete with each other too much. I have 3 shades from Glamshop, 1 from Touch of Glam and a few holo multichromes I made myself. I never thought about neutral holo shades so that's my next experiment.

I was gifted 2 Glamshop Holo shades last year for my birthday and, while STUNNING, that formula is way too thick/creamy for my preference. I'm not the biggest fan of holo shades but this was extremely helpful showcasing the different formulas & brands! 💖
For US brands Electrum Cosmetics really has exceptional Holo's. They seem a bit more finely milled than Glamshops but still pack in a lot of Wow & their colored ones show the color much better than Glamshops. Thank you for all the comparisons 😊

I am super excited to see more holo-shadows. Personally I like them to be flakes throughout a beautiful shifty shadow, I find that it creates some extra dimension. So the Bella Beauty Bar or Ensley Reign would be more my jam. I can think more easily into incorporating them in looks as well. That being said, I don't know how they applied, and since the small ''fiasco'' of Oden's Eye holo, I have been really on the fence about it. Are they tricky to apply? Or do they apply like any super textured/sparkly indie eyeshadow?
Omg yes. Been so into holographic glitters although i know now its not the best for eyes and environment... hope this will be a trend in eyeshadow for a while! Or maybe I'm late to indie holographic game.... ❤❤❤much love to you!
