- The NBA All-Star game has been a disaster for years, with players not trying and fans tuning out. Adam Silver is turning to Warriors star Stephen Curry to save the game, can he do it? Trevor Lane and Donnie Freeman discuss...
I am a caregiver. Imagine getting a bunch of awesome nurses and cna and caregivers together. Best of the best, then watch them NOT take care of their residents. 😅 wow. i only get min wage. And i work 6 days a week and holidays, no OT and No Holiday pay. I'm also a veteran and I don't get memorial day or veterans day off. I am expected to show up and do my job 100% all the time. Players need to at least TRY .
Just move it to after the finals.
Offer 5 million for all star mvp and another 5 mill for “defensive allstar”. Make the 3 pt and dunk contest PART of the all star game itself 🎤 💥
PAY THIS MAN ADAM!
I was saying this exact thing about the 3pt and dunk contests last year. That would be too fun to watch.
@@Mdautkreixwhat does Trevor think?
How about each player on the winning team gets a "Player's challenge?" It's like a Coach's challenge but each player gets only 1 per the season, snd if going to playoffs, a player who saved it can use it in a playoff game. Also, have awards like "All Star Rebounder", "all star pocket picker", " all star shot blocker" and / or the like. The players who win a title or titles get extra "player's challenges." More controversy, but not enough to disrupt an entire season or playoffs, and not enough to irk the refs. Of course, the player is free to discuss it with their coaching staff. I mean, it's quirky and fun, and that may get the players to at least try a little.
Player’s challenge is such a fun idea! I love it
No more incentives. If they don't want to take it seriously, then give the game to the younger/newer guys that feel that they have something to prove.
Try the Team USA vs Team World. It’s all about narratives anyway. This will cause a little bit of drama that might get people interested to watch the game.
It all comes down to the players. If they don’t want to take the ASG seriously then nothing will change. They don’t want to risk injuries so close to the play-offs.
Nobody cares about the all star game in any sport, why should the NBA be different? NBA is asking for too much.
Yeah, but players used to. Winning it was a source of pride for them and it was a great game for the fans.
The solution is simple.
Make it conferences.
Whichever conference wins gets homecourt advantage in the finals.
Problem solved.
Not solved. Just gave an incentive for a small percentage of players on each team to gaf. Not all All Stars come from title contending teams mate.
I kinda like what Donnie pitched. Just smals rules during the all star game. Like miss 3 field goals in a row, get dunked on, etc etc, and you get pulled. that way people are constantly flowing into the game. I think that could get annoying so maybe no super strict rules but something like that i think may motive the players just a tad so they don't get embarrassed
If you do that. Don't stop play either, the team just plays a man down until the next dead ball.
trevor said players care about being selected to the all star team but dont care about playing, make it so only the winning team gets all star on their resume lol
East vs West King of the court
1) Go back to having 1 captain for each side pick each player regardless of conference. 2) The winning team gets 1 extra win for their respective club. This could mean the difference between playoff seating or even making the playoffs at all.
Can't be just handing free wins man. That part I can't agree with
this doesnt even make sense 😅 how would you give one win to the winning team when they not all on the same team and how it use to be they wouldnt be in the same conference so it would be uneven in the end unless you give every other team a L.
So curry, Dame, & Jaylen brown get drafted to team Lebron and Tatum, AD, & Hield get drafted to team Giannis.
Team Lebron wins = GSW get an extra W ; Boston gets a W; Lakers get a W; Bucks get a W
Team Giannis wins= GSW get an extra W; Boston gets a W; Lakers get a W; Bucks get a W
…Soooo winning the game is still meaningless 😂 problem unsolved
@Mdautkreix easily fixable, players from same team play on the same all start team.
They gotta do 2 on 2 or 1 on 1 fr
I like the finals home court advantage idea 👍 The way we decide finals home court advantage today is an abomination: a dominant team in a weak conference is more likely to have home court advantage because they likely have the best W/L record.
Your suggestion would help fix this injustice
Is it. Everyone as is only wants to play in hot cities. You only are that matter worse. Then we all know every year the west wins is that exciting. Maybe to you if your favorite player is there, but to the general fan base, it's not.
@ then change the make up of the conferences, maybe add Seattle to the west? Many other solutions to promote conference parity. What you are promoting is a single team who can roll out of bed and cruise into the finals off the back of the weakness of the conference they are in, while the team they face in the finals had to survive a bloodbath just to get there - and then you handicap that team further? Hardly seems fair.
@TwoShoedDude while that would have appeal, they won't do this simply because this would create more travel than there currently is. For example, imagine Boston faces the Lakers 6 times a year than the 2. Currently, these guys will cry even more about it being too difficult a schedule.
I think the fix might be in the scheduling. These guys are trying to win a chip and they're being asked to compete for nothing in the All-Star game. A dumb injury could derail a championship and regardless of what the players say, that's in their heads.
Maybe merge the draft with the All-Star game and make it one big event. I suppose they could still do a mini version of All-Star weekend with just non-contact stuff like the dunk and 3-point contest and keep it during the season. They could even expand that with new contests like H-O-R-S-E.
There's no shining a turd which is all they're doing by tweaking the rules and format.
You think players will be more incentivized by an off season scrimmage after just finishing a full season & the playoffs? Plus the NBA needs ratings revenue. Fans aren’t tuning in after the finals for a nothing game. And Adam silver isn’t trying to encroach on other major sports’ Nielsen pull. Quick way to send all advertisers running. It’s a more difficult fix than it seems on its face. Maybe just scrap it and go all in on the IST.
@Mdautkreix Fans tune in for the draft weeks after the Finals already. The only other sport that plays at that time is MLB.
This would decrease injury risk for those fighting for a chip and I believe fans would tune in. Especially if the NBA has the draft to market it with.
I doubt scraping it is an option for them.
Get 4 teams. Let them pick and play park/street style
In theory yes but actually the game is horrible
Players are only motivated by vacations, and money
Never about the fans. Because they don't get paid enough.
agree with the sentiment, but the the NBA as an organization is also very rich, and since there is no chance they're giving money to the fans, they could just give some more to the players and at least fans get a good game to watch?
@amritzelnick I'm not against anyone making their cash. I was just stating the matter that they don't do much unless getting paid. But sure, pay them so we can get quality events. :)
I don't think you can bribe NBA players making millions dollars I think they do many players prioritize not getting hurt or champions I think it should be on their contract that if your a all star I like the target score but it doesn't matter what they do unless it's mandatory the nat players today doesn't care even though I'm a big fan of the toughness of Anthony Edwards who plays hard and he has swagger like 90 players and 2000 or era before its going to take a miracle unless they lose a lot of money
