I remember this rendition of O Canada being played when CBC 990AM in Winnipeg was ending its broadcast day. I ran across this radio station by accident as a kid in central Kansas at night. That was the first time I heard a foreign national anthem being played. This definitely my favorite rendition of their national anthem.
Same thing here, in northeast Missouri. We had a local, must have been daytime only station on 990. Hearing this anthem at 1 AM was pretty fascinating at the time.

When you were a young teen growing up in the 70s/80s with only 2 channels on the tv (we had no cable..lived in a very rural area) CBC and CTV...Seeing this come up was actually depressing as it represented NO MORE TV VIEWING FOR THE REST OF THE NIGHT TIL THE NEXT MORNING..I would actually just stare at the test pattern that would follow this national anthem sign off...
There was no way we could have gotten any more channels..no cable tv existed where we lived..but now looking back, having 2 channels was not all that bad..
I am just seeing this now but my sentiments were EXACTLY the same!!!! Even though I lived in Toronto and had CHCH from Hamilton and 3 American channels, there was always that dreaded sinking feeling when the anthem or God Save the Queen played! You knew it was the end. I too stared sadly at the test pattern with its single tone. Even more depressing was the static that followed it. Ahhh, nostalgia!
@Hershels rts We did not even have a VCR, so there was truly nothing to watch after the 2 channels went off the air. SOMETIMES we might be able to get some very snowy channel late at night if we were lucky. All depended on what the old tv antennae was able to pick up that particular night.
I think this should be played again on CBC, CTV, Global...all stations , plus before movies at theatres like it used to...too many crappy commercials are played instead of our National Anthem.

Watched this all the time on CBC channel 9 from Windsor ON growing up in the Detroit area. Love our friends in Canada!
