Silent Night - Sinead O'Connor

  • This is a video I made for Silent Night, as performed by Sinead O'Connor. The song is based on a poem written by a priest named Joseph Mohr, and has been, as most people know, one of the most widely-sung Christmas carols for over a hundred years, especially during Christmas Eve candlelight services. :)
Sinead O'Connor's performance of this song is the most beautiful and haunting version of it that I've heard thus far, so that's why I decided to go with it for this video. :)
It's pretty amazing, the thought of Jesus, of God really, coming into this world...
One day the baby grew up, and at age 33 was crucified... dying for you, dying for me... carrying all of our sins and our failures on his shoulders, and sharing in the pain of this world... and then after he died, he rose again, he came back to life, he beat death, and I think in part to show us that with his help, so can we...
I hope that you will find his light in whatever darkness you may be walking in... you are not alone. :)
    Merry Christmas to you :)
'...I bring you good news of great joy that shall be for all the people...'

      +MJT Luke 1:30-0
30 But the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. 31 You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end." 34 "How will this be," Mary asked the angel, "since I am a virgin?" 35 The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.

I am not a religious person. But this song still brings tears to my eyes. My mom sung this to me to make me sleep as a baby. This song will forever hold a place in my heart and I know when my mom dies, every time I hear this song, I will cry even more. And this version is sung so beautifully, it sounds like an angel singing.

I saw a German movie about this song. The organ broke on Christmas eve and the pastor and a musician who lived in the village wrote this song. Amazingly, it was the same town Mozart was from.

This version, and Enyas Oíche Chiúin are my two favourite christmas songs. I love how smooth they both sing it.. Enya makes me fade away into a dream, while Sinéad brings tears to my eyes because it's so damn vulnerable!

  • @edwardtulane82
    @edwardtulane82  12 лет назад

Yes, that would be nice, lol :p
Actually, I heard somewhere that those who have really studied the whole thing have said that the Mayans hadn't so much predicted that the world was going to end in December of 2012 so much as something big was going to happen then... and whether that's negative or positive or a mix of both is open to question.
I'd like to think that if the Mayans were right, that it's something positive. :)
In any case, I wouldn't worry about the world ending. ;)
    Blessings :)
