Just wanted to say thanks so much for making these videos. Took me about 90 minutes and saved me about $300. Anyone complaining amount your cameras angles is an idiot. Even when things were hard to see, your narration made it clear what was going on. People just like to complain. Sorry his free how to video on RUclips wasn’t studio quality haha. Thanks again!
Thanks for sharing! I need to do my XLT which I believe is the same setup. Only disappointing part was the stud was off camera when you were showing what it looked like.
Thanks for posting these videos! I have a 2018 Ford Explorer. It has the same engine as the Flex and this tutorial helped out. I ended up removing the fender liner to replace the belt as well.
Just a suggestion for a how-to-it video- actually show what you are working on, and you might want to change the date for the vehicle. Pretty sure this car would not be made until 80 years in the future. This is a great showing of the windshield wiper fluid fill or radiator fill.
Awesome: 2010 Flex alternate replaced using this series of 4 videos. I hate working on cars. Seriously. Knowing what to get out of the way and where the bolts are made this less than frustrating. Piece of cake. I didn't use other videos except to figure out the stud SCREWS OUT.
Should be recommended for ford edge same motor and process. Thank you so much brother was a stress reliever and as well as helping me financially by doing it myself. Can't thank you enough sir
Results pretty good so far. Got the alternator out with some difficulty. I disconnected the upper radiator hose, which was a little messy. With the radiator hose out of the way there was much better access to one of the screws that secures the fan assembly. Not the easiest DIY car repair, still doable without the special tool that makes it easier to undo the wiring clips. Hopefully installing the new alternator will go more smoothly.
This video series is pretty helpful. My 2013 Flex is very similar to the 2014. HarborFreight has a serpentine belt tool set that made it easier to loosen the lower bolt and upper nut with the 15mm socket. The stud is attached for the moment and the main wire is detached from the alternator. IDK whether the tool will help remove the stud with the 7mm socket, using an adapter from 3/8” to 1/4” drive for the small socket.
Man , I Need to Do This Too.. What a Pain in the A S S.. I Wonder if Ford attentionally Made it So difficult , Especially Putting the Big A/C Line At a Terrible Spot 🤦♂️ The amount of Work to take the alternator Off is Hurendess..
I'm going to add a comment and let you know that I think this happened the first time and the second time after I wash the engine on this particular car
Well I replaced the original with an aftermarket alternator from OReilys, but it gave me a battery light because it only had 2 comm lines instead of 3. I ended up taking the old one to have it rebuilt and they replaced the voltage regulator. It worked great after that. So it did have to come out, but it wouldn’t have had to be done twice if I could have tested the voltage regulator.
My alternator is frozen - pulley doesn’t turn. I’m replacing the original alternator, the serpentine belt and the belt tensioner. Not too bad for a 2013 Flex with 155,000 miles on it.

It is great to see that Ford will start making more Flex's in 2104.

Great explanation. I didn't have your flat wrench so I took the tensioner off, which wasn't bad, but gave me even more room to work.

I'm having the same problem but I replaced this alternator in December, lucky me the alternator it's under warranty
Do you need to reprogram the vehicle? I'm doing the alternator replacement myself, but don't want to cause a pcm or module issue
Wow that was kool..I sure I goes that smooth for me..
I opened the hood and said youtube. Thanks for helping.
Alternator stud unscrewed with a normal ratchet plus a short extension bar and an adapter for the 1/4” drive socket.
WoW what year is it , How long have i been sleep !?
Do u have to unscrew the bolts before the tension
3:13 how did you get that stud out? Mine is being a brat right now.
