ww2 seventy percent of japans war effort went into the war in Burma against the Anglo/Indian army. about forty percent of UK military production during ww2 was provided by Canada. On D-day roughly a sixth of the troops were Canadians. they provided more troops per head of population in all theaters of ww2 than any nations other than Aussies and Kiwis.
We have had the Royal Canadian Mounted Police at Horseguards - that was an amazing sight. It's always good to see different Commonwealth countries (and other branches of the British forces) taking part.
I've seen Australian, Jamaican, and Malaysian regiments on Queen's Guard. Great to see. I read an article a while ago that said when soldiers from non guards regiments are posted to London for ceremonial duties there is an increase in the soldiers buying themselves out of the army
This guy has disappeared. Was never a member of the Canadian military, well not regular army. The PPCLI is the elite battle regiment of Canada. Its the pointy spear. Anyone who was a member of the Canadian Military. That young lady, didn't make RSM, or officer in the PPCLI by luck. Its totally a merit regiment.
Paul Thomas, Most Americans I’ve talked to say they like Canadians and might even wan’t to move. You seem to be in a minority and you don’t speak for all Americans. Very little.
This deployment of the Canadian Army of the PPCLI was not exactly voluntary. These are front line soldiers who should be deployed directly into battle, not on useless duty guarding a monarch. Hence why they've never done this duty. Canada has excellent soldiers. But this regiment is extremely special. This was the very same regiment that engaged the Chinese Red Army at Kapyong in 1951. Outnumbered by ten to one. Along with the Australians and New Zealand Artillerymen fought off an entire division of Chinese. I think the Canadian government sent these guys reluctantly. It was definitely a British request because I believe that this unit had never stood guard. The Royal 22nd had, the Queen's Rangers (Simcoe's unit) had.
The hell are you talking about. All the British units that mount the guard are regular "front line" soldiers. The same is true for all Canadian contingents sent to London. Both British and Canadian Forces members that mounted the Queen's Guard have served as "front-line" regulars from WWII, Korea, Afghanistan, etc. And in saying that, all three infantry regiments of the Canadian Army's Regular Force have mounted the Queen's Guard. The PPCLI did it twice (1998, 2017). Same as the Royal 22nd Regiment (1940, 2011); while the Royal Canadian Regiment have mounted the guard three times (1940, 2000, 2018). In this video, the PPCLI were sent to London as a part of the Canada 150 anniversary celebrations. As for the Queen's York Rangers, they've never mounted the guard (in the UK), as they are a unit of the Army Reserve (reserve units doing public duties only really happens in Ottawa). The only Army Reserve unit that have ever mounted the Queen's Guard was the 117th CEF (1916, lineage perpetuated by the Royal Montreal Regiment), and the Toronto Scottish Regiment (1940). But both those units mounted the guard after they were mobilized from the reserves to Regular Force (being WWI/WWII and all...)
Forced to go to London?.....are you kidding me?....Gee your head a shake. As a former Patricia, you could not be further out of line with out one clue......We worked with, and consider ourselves closer to the Brits in thinking ,doctrine and humour than any one else. We would have loved to, but did not get a chance to have worked with the Aussies & Kiwis as well.....I would have given a month's pay to have been chosen for duty at Buck House.🦟🍁
Served with the PPCLI in Kosovo and I'm very proud to have done so. I wear their sweatshirt with pride to this day.
Canada should be so proud of their regiment. They were extremely smart in appearance and their drill excellent

Several Canadian regiments have often formed the guard for the King and Queen during and since the second world war.
First Canadian Regiment to serve on the Western Front 1914-1918.

It’s funny because you didn’t even get your insult right. Can you count Paul?
Thank you for the posts Alex.

So proud of our troops, Go Canada! 🇨🇦
And rightly so.. Fine soldiers from a fine country. Well Done, Canada..
Mom must make sure all her boys are ready for battle
Not gonna lie, the comments complaining about the one random female soldier are hilarious
Well done bravo Zulu PPCLI
Well done 2VP. Second to None.
Its getting to floozy in London!!
Not Military tradition. This would never happen after my 35 years in the Canadian Military. Shes young and must have been RMC, not direct entry.
She's an officer in the PPLCI which probably means she can kick your ass. Has been. Were you the cook?

Nails!
Most of their helmets look too big for their heads.
It's a Wolseley pith it's supposed to be like that
Blew it by the 4:5ft woman. An insult in the day of political correctness.
congratulations canada. now stop leeching off the United States.
that's the difference between you and us. we dont spend 2 minutes much less 2 hours thinking about you. you dont matter.
we hate canadians down here.
No no no, I think you mis understood me. we think about canadians a ton....right before reaching over and flushing the toilet.
well, how many times do you defecate per day? that is when us Americans think of canadians.

granddaughter of Queen Victoria
I think she was also the daughter of the Governor General at the time
A woman dressing up as a male soldier is always a pathetic sight.
well up to the point where they kill ya.
Misogyny is even more pathetic.
