Yes, you added them on top, but had the solid foundation to layer them on. I do that a lot in our 3-piece band, first because there's lots of space; second, it helps fill in the excess space. And third, it's just one hell of a lot of fun that way!!!
I am a bass player and I use power chords in bass. They make the band sound much fuller and I have no idea why they are not used more often. I also play lead sometimes.
You just described Lemmy Kilmister. Actually if you haven't played in a while --like a few years -- and suddenly an attractive gig opens up and you have time to knock the rust off, a pick is easier, even if you've only played finger style in your life.
Using a pick for this galloping bass line is a serious faux pas for the super serious Iron Maiden bass. Great job!! You killed it on the lead section. I can’t stop making silly faces when I’m on my drum kit.
All of these except the last three are things I either currently do or probably will start doing in the near future. For the record, the only guitar I own is a bass, but I _am_ saving up for a four-string tremolo for it. Also for the record, the only two amps I currently have access to are my Mustang Micro practice amp and my sister’s amp which she got for her Stratocaster.

I’m a guitarist that plays bass now and I know my parts. I usually don’t move that much. I mostly play with my two figures (pick if the song calls for it). I use a Bass Amp & Bass Pedals.
