I've watched like 5 videos on how* to connect my turntable to a preamp then to an integrated amp and you are the only one who explained it perfectly step by step for a complete beginner like me. Thank you for saving me hours of headaches!
Thanks for your invalubale advice. I had recently bought an iFi Zen Air phono for my new system: Pro-ject Carbon Evo with Cambridge Audio AXA35. The set-up instructions were minimal and I had attempted to connect the phono stage into the Phono In of my integrated amp! I'm grateful that my online search returned your channel first. Your instruction to connect to an AUX and NOT the Phono port has now allowed me to enjoy the wonderful, enhanced sound of my vinyl via the Zen Air. Much appreciated sir 🙂

Thank you so much for this video. I had trouble connecting it because i put the rca on the phono and all I had to do is put it on cd. You save my day and now I can listen to my vinyl 😊
Excellent informative video. You just solved my 3 day problem. Don’t plug turntable with external or built in pre amp in phono, use aux, or cd. Excellent bro!
Hi, i was about to return my Cambridge phono amp bc i thought it was defective 🙆🏽♂️ i was connecting to phono input thanks to your video now i got it working and is great. Thanks 🙏🏾
Man you really helped me out. This is the only video i could find that made it clear what to do with my integrated amp with built in phono preamp. Im using a shiit mani with a rotel a12
OMG THANK YOU! The hum on my new setup (Pioneer Elite integrated Amp and Pro-ject Primary phono) was driving me crazy! Then I watched this video and hooked up the Turntable to the CD input instead of phono and viola!!! Crystal clear glorious sound! Thanks again!
Thanks. I purchased a ZEN phono and of course it has no instructions and the RUclips video they send you off to is lacking. I had a general idea but wasn't entirely sure.
Thanks for your video. You are a great teacher. I have a Denon x1850 mixer and powered pioneer VM8 dj speakers. I have two Technics Mk2 turntables. How will I connect. Do I need two phono pre amps to cater for both turntables?
Glad I stumbled upon this video. I have been using the built-in phono preamp in my Marantz PM7000N and was unsure if and how I could include a separate phono preamp into my rig to try and get even better sound. Thank you!
After so many years today I heard some people ground their turntable to their pre-amps and from the pre-amp there's a second ground cable which goes to the ground section of the amp/receiver. Basically double ground. Is that really relevant???
Thank you thank you thank you for this comment! I just got a preamp box and kept trying to figure out why it sounded so damn bad. It was the cable. You the man!
Thank you so much! Fairly new to this. Spent an hour trying to find my issue and you couldn’t have said it any better. Thank you again. My Project Xperience 2 + Project Tune Box S2 + Bowers & Wilkins 705 S2 is now sounding so much better
Thank you, I'm thinking either a Rolls red box or maybe a small tube preamp, I hear the Rolls is very very good at it's price point. I'm looking for Max sound quality as if I was in the studio the day it was recorded, part of me thinks tubes will give me those dynamics.
Very nice content! Congrats! I have a Rega planar 1 plus conect directly to my receiver Yamaha Rxv795, can I use a pre amp to improve my sound? The rega planar 1 had an internal amp and this is not possible to turn off.. thanks
When doing this can you connect the preamp to powered/active bookshelf speakers without worrying about using a ground cable? For instance will you only be required to connect the ground cable from the turntable to the preamp?
Well, if there is no ground wire input on the powered speakers, then you don’t need to worry about it. Just connect the red and white audio cables from your turntable directly into your powered speakers.
Thank you that was a helpful video. Question, I am using a 1byone H004 kit. It has a phono stage built in to the turntable then goes directly to passive bluetooth speakers. Its definitely a lower end system but suprisingly good for my small apartment. It has a setting to turn off the phono stage. I was wondering if I could turn it off and attach a Mani 2 or Ifi Zen phono stage and go directly to the speakers or would I have to connect to an amp or reciever then to speakers? I am new to this so please forgive my ignorance, ha.
If I understand you correctly, you can (hopefully) bypass or not use the built in phono preamp of the turntable, connect it to a Schiit Mani, then connect the Mani into a receiver or amp, and then export through your passive speakers.
Devoted to Vinyl. . i watched this video about 10 times to understand how I want to hook up my turntable. I have a turntable with a built in preamp that are directly connected to speakers. My questions is, Can I hook up my built in preamp turntable to a micro preamp, and to the speakers? Or is that a no-no? Thanks in advanced
Hi, so I'm really new to this. The other day I just got my hand on Technic SL-1600. And my dad already has a Yamaha DSP-A1 which is apparently an integrated amplifier. So all I have to do is connect the RCA cable to phono and that's all correct? Thank you
OK that explains why my turntable sounded Terrible after I turned ON the built-in Pre-amp that comes with the TT, then connected it to my Receiver that already has a Pre-amp. It sounds OK when I turn the built-in Preamp OFF, but then I really got to turn up the volume on the Receiver ? I'm thinking about getting the Pro-Ject Tube Box S2, sometime in the future, but right now I don't have any available inputs on my receiver. Everything is taken.
Thank you for the great video. I still am unsure, what I am not doing correctly. I can't get sound from my speakers. I am assuming it is the settings on the receiver. I have a Audio Technica with a built in preamp. I have a Denon AVR 1707 Receiver and KLH Speakers (old - but work). I am pretty sure everything is connected correctly, but I can't get sound. Do you have a video on: preamp builtin turntable with no phono jack in receiver, how to set receiver settings without remote control for fixing problem of no sound? Thank you!
Okay, well, if you have a built in phono preamp then you should just be able to plug the red and white cables into a free input on your receiver (like the CD input). Then just make sure your LINE/PHONO switch on the back of your record player is on the right setting.
So you can use an external phono preamp with an existing receiver with a phono preamp as long as you plug the cables into another input such as auxiliary or cd on the back of your receiver?
Michael.....I have a Technics SA-EX110 receiver with phono jacks in back and a phono selector button in front. So does this mean I have a built in Phono pre-Amp?
Sorry a bit confused because I have a turntable with a preamp but no ground wire. It plays fine connected to the cd inputs but my issue is that I’m getting sound on only 3 speakers including the subwoofer. I have a 5.1 set up. Unless the cd input needs changing or is that vinyl records can only give you two speakers?
Does it matter if the pre amp is NOT plugged into the same power socket as the receiver? Apparently that’s why I’m getting the hum because the ground wire is on the turntable which is plugged into a different wall 😢
I have a Technics 1200 I want to plug into my Pioneer DDJ SX2 controller. Playing my normal records through the phono of the controller give a much crappier sound (almost unlistenable, flat bass and feel distorted or weak) if I compare this to say plugging my Technics turntables into an analog mixer like the Pioneer DJM series mixers. Could I create a perfect sound that I usually hear from analog mixer if I buy a preamp and plug my turntable into this preamp and then preamp into the controller (into the phono). Are there preamps that can provide plugs for two turntables, or just buy one preamp for each turntable? Thanks for your help.
So lets say I'm using a reciver with a line/phono switch for the input. Will i need to toggle the switch to line input when using an external phono preamp?
I did what you said in the video but the sound coming from my receiver is not clear and crackly. I did not install the ground wire. The preamp in a Dilvpoety Phono box which had great reviews on Amazon. Could the RCA cables be bad? they are sort of cheap ones

Hi. I have a vintage 1976 Sanyo GXT 4515 XK record player that has built-in amp, with aux & phono switch at the front and ‘aux in’ plug at behind. Hello there! I’m a new subscriber and this video helped me in regards to hooking components to the receiver. I have a uTurn Orbit turntable and a uTurn Pluto preamp and I can easily hook the preamp to the CD input of the Pioneer VXS-3300 receiver that was handed down from my dad, also got his Sony floor standing speakers and at able to retire my Edifier bookshelf speakers. Now question, there’s a ground post on the preamp but not the turntable (it’s internally grounded but I still got some hum when I first set up, I just connected speaker cable from the post of the preamp to the outside screw of the outlet where my power strip is plugged (works surprisingly). Would I need to use the ground post on the receiver for my configuration or is it only for when you connect your turntable to the built in phono function of the receiver?
I have a new audio Technica record player with pre amp. Having trouble connecting it via Phono inputs in my receiver ? No sound ? Can someone help please?
So I have a audio technica AT-LP60 that I want to plug into a phono preamp because my receiver does not a have a phono input. My question though is will I still be able to connect to the preamp with just the two rca cables? because there is no ground wire coming from the back of the turntable. If anyone reading this could help me out that would be greatly appreciated THANKS
So the AT-LP60 has a built in phono preamp, so you don't need to worry whether your receiver or amp has a phono stage/phono input. All you'd need to do is reach behind the turntable and slide the knob to LINE, then plug your RCA cables into something like the CD or AUX input in the back of your receiver.
@@DevotedtoVinyl Ahh okay yeah that is how I have it set up currently, switch to LINE and RCA cables plugged into an AUX input. So basically there is not need for me to get an external phono preamp?
