As this video shows us as a PM you don't need to know all the deep details of Software development but how can I modify my CV to land such a job when I only have "normal" PM work experience? Are certificates like ITIL the way to go to get the foot in the industry? Or what would definitely help?
In most cases, recruiters don't expect you to have specific technical skills (unless it's in the job description). Instead, they want you to have technical awareness. So, in your CV you need to focus on experiences that show you know how to manage technical experts. Certifications won't help here. What would you recommend for a software dev that wants to transition to this role? I'm currently doing some courses like the google project management specialization in coursera, and i plan to get a CAPM from PMI for now, i heard a PMP cert could also help.
I'm not the fan of PMI certifications as the way in into the project management. They teach theory that you will never use in the real world. Instead, you need to learn how to lead and manage real people in real environments. That's because you must display your understanding of this challenges on an interview. Interviewers will not ask you theoretical questions. I recommend you read my book first. That would be a great starting point.
Hi Sir, I've opted for Business Analytics (more data oriented) and Project management-IT. Can I work as a Business Analyst(analy-sis management role) upon completing the courses as I'll have knowledge of data and management?

Hi Brent, I have an online course where I teach practical project management (in contrast with theoretical PMP;) ). There are modules dedicated to career development as well like "how to write a perfect CV of a PM" and a roadmap to a Senior PM role.
@@krishnabha646, there's not dedicated lessons explaining all possible technologies out there. But I have an IT Project Manager Glossary. It includes a list of terms you need to learn to kickstart your technical awareness education. And I explain how to work from there. In most cases, you need to google the terms and technologies. Otherwise, it would be a separate course. In general, I believe that you can manage any technical project without a technical background. Why? Your "technical" input is usually no more than 5%. For the rest, you need to rely on your team members. And I teach techniques and approaches on who to leverage the knowledge of your team and managing the project on a higher level.
But do you think getting hands on experience is very important for a novice since theory is different from practical. What do you think about volunteering and contract jobs?
Yes, indeed, practical experience is more important than theory from certifications. But at the same time you don't need practical experience in the role of project manager. If you are just starting out, any leadership experience will do. That's why I recommend focusing on finding Micro Projects in your current role. Then, it's just a matter of describing those micro projects as experience relevant for a PM.
