    I going to jump on the bandwagon here, and say that this is very helpful in helping me and my friend learn how to dance for our rolls as Mrs Lovett and Sweeney Todd respectively.
    Thank you!

    That was one of the best waltz lessons I have seen. As a choreographer, trying to teach people with no dance skills how to waltz, it was refreshing to see someone teach something besides the box step. Thanks.

    Excellent video! I have watched people dance this all my life and never understood it until now. I knew it was the 123 thing, but I couldn't figure out the rules and evidently that was because there are so many different waltz steps. In other words, a waltz dance is a type of dance, not any one particular dance, like the old 'bus stop'. Man I haven't thought of that one in years! lol! Many thanks Mr. Thomas!

    What isn't explained:the man leads and the lady follows. The correct pressure on the hands and shoulders is key to looking good. Also, the man always leads with the left foot first (and the right hand) - the woman with the right foot. (woman=right :) ). She should be putting light pressure with her left hand into his shoulder to get a very strong stance. Resistance is key and is achieved by keeping the shoulder, wrist and elbow firm. The other hands are at eye level of the shorter dancer.

    You do a Waltz to any music that has a multiple of 3 if it is slow enough: 3/4, 3/8, 6/8, 12/8 etc... If it is to fast for a Waltz then you dance a Vienesse Waltz.

    Actually you can't do a Waltz to any music that has a multiple of 3 because 6/8 is 3 quavers per beat which makes it a two beat bar.

    Nice simple moves for beginners, but your "Rise and Fall" are incorrect. Students should not be stepping out on One as if they are stepping down into a pit, instead, they should be finished with the "Fall" as they gather their feet at the end of Three (3&) or at the end of Six (6&). Their "Heel Lead" should be sliding forward to "One" as they maintain a level, low (but not as if they are stepping down into a pit) This is hard on the knees and is incorrect. So finish the "Fall" on 3&, don't continue to "Fall" as you step into 1. Same thing on the back step. Finish the "Fall" before sliding level and low back on 1 or on 4. I'm only speaking up because it is very hard to correct students once they have learned "Rise and Fall" incorrectly.

    Hi just discovered your basic waltz video on youtube.
    You have made a fundemental error with regard to musical timing.
    The slow waltz and the vienesse waltz are both written in 3/4 time it is the speed that makes them different. For your information 6/8 time is what is known as compound duple time whereas waltz time is simple triple time as an experienced musician and a music reader myself i have never and would never count a waltz in 6 quaver beats who ever told you this is a total idiot!
    3/8 6/8 9/8 12/8 time signatures are all termed as compound time, 6/8 time as i said before is known as compound duple time and is counted as 2 dotted crochets it is a time signature along with 2/4 time (simple duple) that is used in marches, you have only to look at the music of John Philip Sousa (sometimes referred to as the march King) you will see that both 6/8 and 2/4 timings are used and halfway through some of his marches, you will see that he changes from one to the other "The stars and stripes forever" is fine example of this usage of both time signatures. I am also an oldtime(classical sequence) and the use of these two timings is very common when dancing the Two-step so iam very familiar with their usage.I would also encourage you to have a look at the Groves dictionary of music you should find a copy of it in your local library the version i saw some years ago were several volumes so it will be in the reference section. I also dont agree with your practice of breaking hold in modern it is contrary to international standard if this is American format you need to make this clear also why can you not teach the basic forward change step which is of far more use to beginner than the box step as it moves people around the floor also your basic footwork lacks rise and fall.

    @Grunt1835 11 лет назад

    Awkward moment: You say you can dance because you watch this video, but all he does is dance, like what you want. Then you step onto the floor, and look like a idiot. Trust me, it is better to be lectured and shown then just shown. Explanations are necessary, such as that you 'bounce' down on the one, and up on the 2 and 3. Would you have known that unless he said it?
