I do know when I plan on quitting statue collecting. I'm fairly new and I have 7 statues so far. I have a list of my favorite characters (15 total) and I plan on having only one statue for each with a key issue comic book. I work in game design and I want to surround myself with characters that have inspired me to continue loving art, animation, and comics. Awesome video, keep up the good work!
I only collect sci-fi pieces and keep it in one room in my house, so space dictates how much I have. To me, its more of having a nice representation of Big Chap, Jungle Hunter, T800 etc. then to worry about obtaining everything new and exciting coming out. Having the impulse to buy every new piece would stress me out more than its worth (as we see in certain RUclips channels that shall remain nameless) Cool intro btw
i never quit for need of money but i have cut down 90% sold it and kept 10% of my favs when i needed cash and rebuild the collection again in a different direction - i dont think i ever quit i think i just cut down or change the direction or interest of what i collect.
I think space is the largest factor in this. Usually, if you are collecting 1/3 or even 1/4 scale they can be space hogs. But another reason is when do you feel like enough is enough? I feel like the collection is a representation of the individual collecting. If you feel as though the collection perfectly captures the essence of the collector then that's when a collection is complete.
Great video! I agree with you, health is so important to the equation. Hope we all can have great health up until the very end. After that, the problem is space. I've got my "wish list" of things I'd still like to collect, but also constantly monitor that with the space reserved for whatever comes in. At some point, the space will run out and that will be the end. I don't ever, ever see myself getting rid of anything, but who knows what the future holds!

Maiden Mike! What's up man! I'm quite late to answering here but I'd like to throw my two cents in. I honestly think finances is the top reason many retire from collecting. I think this even extends out to those who can still afford it. It's as you've said, this hobby isn't getting any cheaper. Hell the jumps in price is pretty staggering at times. And don't get me started on shipping which is another topic altogether. Another reason I think is space. I feel some collectors get to that point where they look over their collections and think, "Okay, I've got everything I need." At most if space is an issue, collectors may opt to be super selective of future purchases than retire completely. There's a ton of reasons one would quick collecting but I think finances is the top reason.

Nice intro! Upping the production quality. Funny, cause I’ve been thinking about when I might quit. Can’t imagine losing my passion for collecting, so I figured when I start to lose my health I might hang it up as the reasons are two fold. One, I probably won’t have the strength or energy to lift those huge 1/4,1/3 pieces. Two, I need to start selling them off to leave money for the wifey. Sorry for the sad response.
I have 9 statues in my collection and I'm more than happy with that. If something, which I think is unbelievable comes out within the next 1-2 years I may add another piece but apart from this that's about it for me; I'm content with what I have and because of this I don't need to sell as the outlay is limited and I haven't gone over the top; I know this is realtive to each person. I would say I've almost spent the same money on custom wood/acrylic cabinets as I have on statues because I wanted them to be displayed in a way which is befitting of them. I never make a decision quickly and mull it over and over before I pull the trigger; I find this is a good way to filter out the stuff I don't really have a strong conviction for. I wish you all the strength to deal with the loss of your mother brother; I can feel it's been a really traumatic time for you. May god bless you brother.

I'm currently 44 so I may tap out at 80 so I should be able to still pick them up except for maybe 3 of my 30 by then do great video man and happy collecting
Bro you’re making 70 seem like you’re 100. At 70 you’ll have enough strength to pick up those statues. But anyway I just started myself at an older age and buy when it’s in my budget to do so. That being said I may have to put a pause on the hobby due to inflation (hyper some say) coming next year. Putting my eggs in another basket as a precautionary effort. But I won’t be leaving the hobby any time soon. Like others have stated I’m also liking that new intro bro. And your collection is 🔥.
Thank you John. Great answer. Inflation is killing a lot of things. And I’m sorry you have to step away for a minute. But you are smart to do so and save that cash for a rainy day.
Great video. For me, there are three reasons why I would stop collecting statues. 1- The companies price them so high that I refuse to pay their absurdly astronomical prices. 2- I just don’t derive the same joy from them that I use to. 3- I’m dead. And even then I’d find a way to pre-order one more 1:3 scale Batman from Prime 1 Studio.
With the prices going up...I'm considering tapping out...on top of that... with toy companies taking the plastic away... that sucks... you can't see what you're working with...and like I said with the prices... it's getting crazy and I have teenagers and they are absolutely expensive lol
I was on a bull run. Collecting from 2012-2019. After I got the Juggernaut EX statue from Sideshow. I had every comic book character i loved. Then I just stopped. Now I think I'm kinda semi retired from collecting. And buy one every blue moon which is a comfortable place to be. I might pick up the new Nightcrawler from Sideshow or a classic Superman if they make one that really fits the bill. But as of now I got one foot out. LOL..... 33 PF statues 1 3rd scale dark Knight Batman 1 Legendary scale Wolverine.

Yeah man I was a big time collector in South Africa, the companies just started taking advantage of us, very high prices and delivery fees insane. I quit about a year ago and sold all my statues for very cheap, honestly the best choice I ever made.
@@MrGizmo5602 yeah man, I found another passion, Sim Racing and this has helped me not to spend another cent on statues, because now I am spending all my money on Sim Racing Gear ahahahahaha
Iceman Where you been ????? That is an old video. Come on back to collecting and be part of Maiden Mikes World. 😃. No I definitely understand, no doubt, got to have balance in everything you do, to much of one thing is no good and that includes collecting.
I will stop when I don't feel like continuing. I will place no other arbitrary stipulations on it. Otherwise; Price\Space may slow me down, but I will replace my least liked with new things that come out that I like more. Good to see another video Mike, I hope you are doing as good as you can! [edit] watched a bit further in, fair point about age, that's something none of us can overcome at some point (perhaps I will scale down to 1/6 then, or gravitate towards pvc lol)
Worse case scenario is I can see you downsizing when you get older, maybe consolidating into 4 or 5 REALLYYYY kickass, HUGE pieces. It would cut down on maintenance and wouldn’t have to move them. I know 4 or 5 collectors from forums who are 65+ and are still psyched when a new statue pre-order comes out… I know 20-30 ppl from that age that love collecting 1/6 figures and I know they will never give those up! If the passion is still there, keep on keeping on my friend!
I have kids, but there is NO WAY I’m trusting them cleaning my statues. I’m actually scared that one day they may decide to take one of them “hostage” to get what they want. 😂
Hello, well thanks for making me feel OLD😁 I am a few years younger than you, my 28 year old girlfriend is killing my back, LOL; but it's Worth it 😎 . Back to your question, I think space is a Big issue especially when it comes to boxes, I have a 4 bedroom house and two of Those rooms are All boxes, I call them closets Now, I can't even step a foot into one of those rooms; that being said I think I am getting close to calling it quits, There is about ten STATUES I have on pre-order, after that I think that's Endgame for me!! NOTE: Great video, makes you think about what's Really important!🤔😎😎
Wow great information. I rent a storage unit for 90 bucks a month, Just for the boxes. I had them stacked in the garage and hated it. So it’s worth the 90 for me to have space in my garage.
i gave up because i went broke. sold all but 1 statue which is the statue that got me into the collecting world. i just watch other peoples stuff fondly.
@@MrGizmo5602 it's a 12" custom made one without a paint job by some guy on Etsy. the craftsmanship is outstanding. another reason I dislike statues now they are computer/Lazer made.
Not to be a pessimist, but this hobby may soon be displaced by many people simply trying to survive. You can’t eat this stuff and like you say, it’s getting more expensive every day. These things are luxury items that take up space. People are replacing their wants with needs
You are absolutely correct it is starting to become a hobby for the rich. But people keep purchasing at these prices they are just going to continue to rise.
One reason i quit collecting is because of health issues and also because the quality getting more and more bad. I keeped only my gems and keep it that way. Enough to enjoy 🙂 h5
@@MrGizmo5602 i have a lot of shit going on so i keep recovering and Training. Quality vs Pricepoint! Thats a big point to me less quality and most if that shit is getting ridicules expensive. Bless you brother
If its not in stores I stop collecting a line. If I have the definitive version of a character and a few variants no need to buy more unless there is a new update. Lastly designers who aren't listening to customer and the designs continue to be bad. These are the things that have caused me to stop collecting.
I think what will make me stop collecting is having a little bit of everything I have a endgame to my statue collecting I want a little bit of everything I want some marvel statues some DC statues like justice league and avengers Statues I want some video game statues I want some movie statues some horror statues anime statues and pop-culture statues Star Wars statues and Disney But I think it won’t be a complete stop if something new come out that I want I’ll get it but I probably won’t collect as much as I used to whenever I do get to my endgame of statue collecting But for now I’m still collecting I just got a Marilyn Monroe statue a few days ago check out my unboxing video ruclips.net/video/TLFSKS4vQ04/видео.html
I decided to stop collecting dolls for myself. I looked at my collection and it is now estimated at $10,000 - $15,000. And then I thought that I could buy gold from Tiffany or Cartier instead of dolls...I could wear gold jewelry on trips. And my dolls are only at home and no one sees them except me. Well, gold is valued much more every year than dolls.
Yes Clair that is true. But what brings you more happiness gold or dolls. I know if I take my 100k collection and bought Amazon stock. What am I going to happier with.
Great video man!
Thank u Mc pane
Awesome forward thinking !! 🎉😂
Geo my friend where u been????? That video is a 100 years old 🤣🤣🤣 thanks my man. check into Maiden Mikes world regularly
Hahaha awesome response. Get that last order in before they put the dirt on you.
Love the intro lol nice vid👌
Thank you Jesus Man I live in Hollywood i matters well act like it.😅
With the prices going up...I'm considering tapping out...on top of that... with toy companies taking the plastic away... that sucks... you can't see what you're working with...and like I said with the prices... it's getting crazy and I have teenagers and they are absolutely expensive lol
I could not imagine how expensive teenagers are these days
I was on a bull run. Collecting from 2012-2019. After I got the Juggernaut EX statue from Sideshow. I had every comic book character i loved. Then I just stopped. Now I think I'm kinda semi retired from collecting. And buy one every blue moon which is a comfortable place to be. I might pick up the new Nightcrawler from Sideshow or a classic Superman if they make one that really fits the bill. But as of now I got one foot out. LOL..... 33 PF statues 1 3rd scale dark Knight Batman 1 Legendary scale Wolverine.
Trey I can think I’m running your game plan. It sounds like you got it.
Look at mike getting fancy with his videos!😂
Live in Hollywood matters well be Hollywood
Nice intro, you up your game!
Just call me Hollywood Mike. 😂
I think space will the thing for me. But i think a person will really only stop when it becomes not fun or fulfilling anymore.
Jeff my friend. Where have you been. Video is 2 years old 🤣 just kidding bro. You are correct on that. I’ve changed what I collect numerous of times in my life. Welcome to the channel my friend.
@MrGizmo5602 thx bro🤣
I won't lie. I think it's an addiction for me, honestly but it helps give me peace. I do take months of breaks from it but I always seem to find my way back to it. Oh well🤣🤣
@@jeffreyhuggins4786 totally understandable 🤣
I’m only in my late 30s so I’ll probably be collecting for the next 20 years!
I’d say 30 more if you in late 30’s
Yeah man I was a big time collector in South Africa, the companies just started taking advantage of us, very high prices and delivery fees insane. I quit about a year ago and sold all my statues for very cheap, honestly the best choice I ever made.
Wow Lukas you are a better man than me. Just waking up one day and saying no more I’m out.
@@MrGizmo5602 yeah man, I found another passion, Sim Racing and this has helped me not to spend another cent on statues, because now I am spending all my money on Sim Racing Gear ahahahahaha
Great video man, would love to have you on the channel some time> I enjoy the vids
Let’s do it kash
I quit collecting last year because it can be addicting and there's more than life then plastic ❤
Iceman Where you been ????? That is an old video. Come on back to collecting and be part of Maiden Mikes World. 😃. No I definitely understand, no doubt, got to have balance in everything you do, to much of one thing is no good and that includes collecting.
I agree with the comment of Christ, how much space you have to show your collection says to you when it is time to stop.
Hahaha awesome answer
Money and time! Your wife/girl friend wants you to spend money on vacations instead of something you put on your shelf and stare at 😂
Hahaha. Don’t worry when you get a little older they don’t want to do anything. Then you can really build your collection.
Thanks for reporting in brother. Great response
Hahaha awesome
@@MrGizmo5602 Hello Mike , Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family and friends!😎😎
@@ReconstructedBeauty you too my brother enjoy that 28 year old girlfriend today
@@MrGizmo5602 Hello Mike, you know I will, She's with Her family until Saturday, then We will have our thanksgiving!😁😎
I'm already winding down due to space and the increasing prices.
These seem to be the 2 biggest problems
i gave up because i went broke.
sold all but 1 statue which is the statue that got me into the collecting world.
i just watch other peoples stuff fondly.
That is a great reason to give up collecting. This has turned out to be a real expensive hobby.
What is the 1 statue you kept ?
@@MrGizmo5602 a spiderman maquette
@@pip7967 got to keep that one it’s a classic. I still hold my classics
@@MrGizmo5602 it's a 12" custom made one without a paint job by some guy on Etsy. the craftsmanship is outstanding.
another reason I dislike statues now they are computer/Lazer made.
I stopped collecting because it makes my OCD worse, I am tired of the stress.
I guess I can see that David. Hang in there buddy
Health issues? U ok man ? Quality getting bad I can see that. And too damn expensive.
@@MrGizmo5602 i have a lot of shit going on so i keep recovering and Training.
Quality vs Pricepoint!
Thats a big point to me less quality and most if that shit is getting ridicules expensive. Bless you brother
@@giuunlimited9362 G you take care of yourself my brother
If its not in stores I stop collecting a line. If I have the definitive version of a character and a few variants no need to buy more unless there is a new update. Lastly designers who aren't listening to customer and the designs continue to be bad. These are the things that have caused me to stop collecting.
Definitely understandable
F’ning never!!!!
Collecting is just a hobby that keeps most of happy. If it’s worth money down the road you are blessed. Thanks for coming into Maiden Mikes World 🌎. Come back.
@@MrGizmo5602 I'm so surprised that you answered so quickly! I have watched your video in full and agree with your opinion. I hope you are doing well now. It's just that I'm a girl and I suddenly realized that I want to have something beautiful on me :) I understand what you mean! But I've been living with dolls for so many years that mean a lot to me. And my problem is that I spent a lot of money on dolls. And i spent so little money on herself in terms of clothes, beauty salons, jewelry. I realized that it should be me first, not the dolls. I think you know the feeling that you have so many statues that you just don't have enough time for all of them.
@@ClaireSea8 of course i will answer as quickly as I can. Now Claire, do you think Jewerly is going to make you more beautiful than you are. Beauty is deep within the heart. ❤️
Space is going to be my issue
Couldn’t you just sell off old for new ? Then keep going
I have a giant Batman collection which I had planned to eventually pass down to my four year old son. But so far he is only a Hulk fan. The dumbest avenger. So kids are not always the way out for us hero hoarders.
Hahaha that’s the best response I’ve gotten
I think it is time to quit when you start making videos entitled "When is it time to quit collecting?" LOL!! But seriously, running of space will likely be it for me. But I do agree with you that age is a factor. Not only due to the physical aspects, but I think as you get well into those golden years, you just lose interest in hobbies.
Good response spin. But I also like to believe i am not going to lose interest in this hobby
The short answer is NEVER…. : )
The best answer I’ve heard.
For me..I have no P.O for the first time! Really feels nice but they are always trying to pull me back in..45 statues and $50,000 spent! Money, space and time are killers for this hobby.
Very fair and understandable answer
"my wife doesn't want them in the house anymore". then grow a pair and get rid of the wife.

@@MrGizmo5602 yep, sounds like it. most aren't. you have done well sir.
try to collect uncommon toys. Like stuff that you don't get from toys r us, target, walmart, etc... and collect high end one. Stuff that you are really passionate about. Marvel Legend, TMNT, GI Joes, transformers and Star Wars are too common. You realize that they're all garbage, re-used molds and cheap.
