Bought this about a month ago and using it in Arizona on my trip for the Grand Canyon right now. It might be the best lens I own for my Leica so far 👌🏻
Hi Benj. Great review. Yes I just bought this lens and using it with my M8. It's quite amazing and although the M8 is a 1.33 crop I still end up with a nice 28mm frame. This is my first Voigtlander lens and I'm enjoying it. Well, my first ever SLR lens was a 50mm f1.8 Cosina(Cosinon) lens from the early 70's made by the same company that is now making Voigtlander. Found a 21mm Voigtlander 1.5 crop viewfinder it gets me pretty close to the actual frame. Love your videos.
This is an outstanding review my man. Coming from someone who runs a photography channel also the images you got a beautiful and the b roll looks like something out of a magazine. Voigtlander would do well to break you off something for this review
One of my favorite lenses. Main culprit is the fixed lens hood which doesn't allow to use step up rings for larger filters. The black color starts deteriorating after a few years of usage (the metal shines through then)
I use 28mm mostly for my documentary work but some time back I loved 28mm, actually don't really know why but for me the 28mm just feels perfect for me!
I purchased this lens a couple of years ago after a friend bought one and did a model shoot with it on the M240. I was flabbergasted! The lens is incredible.there's very little distortion for a wide angle lens. Great rendering and no discernible issues, very sharp and built like a tank! I'm going to try it on the CL and see how it does. For ultra wide angle, I use the Super Wide Helliar 15 f4.5, that is also a great lens for the Leica. It doesn't suffer with the usual chromatic aberration with the older VC super wide angle lenses. CV makes excellent L mount lenses.
I once had a 20mm f/3.5 for my Nikon SLR. Loved the focal length because it worked well in my 85/35/20mm kit. When I purchased my Leica M6, I knew the 21mm would be my third lens in my 90/35/21mm kit.
Hi Benj, love your reviews, thank you for doing them. Have you compared this to the voigt 21mm 1.4 ? Would love to see a review on that lens if you get the chance. It’s huge… but you seem to be willing to mount the tt artisans 50 f 0.95 and worse.. so,,,, what about the 1.4?? 😂
Amazing and super useful review! Thanks a lot for the awesome video and b roll shots - you’ve got a new subscriber :) What flash and settings are you using for the after party pictures?
Whoa you just threw a curve ball at me with this one. I was thinking of getting the 15-35 RF and 50RF when I switch over to the EOS R. Now I’m thinking this could be a better and cheaper option. I planned on only using the 15-35 for dancing and RUclips videos. I prefer primes so I may have to take a look at this.
I wonder what you'd think about the TTartisan 21mm 1.5 , it gets good reviews Btw a cheap way to get a vf is buy an old Russian 20mm off eBay. They're wayyyyy cheaper than the Voigtlander or Leica ones
Apparently, for the price bit of a disappointment among photographers about the strong vignetting at wide open. Guess, depends how much can be fixed in post.
Hey Benj, wondering if you have any tips for shooting wide/ultrawide. I notice that I tend to "smush" or shorten people down when taking photos with the Standard Lens on iPhone (my only wide angle reference point), and has contributed to me not getting a wide lens yet because I dont know proper technique. Any suggestions / maybe a new video explaining it?
Hey Benj, How's the Chromatic Aberation wide open in the lightweights? I have a Nocton f1.5 50mm that didn't behave until stopped down to f2.8. By contrast the Leica f1.4 50 mm summilux, at more that 4X the price, really kept it to gather in the CA department.
Great review! Totally agree that the added speed without being too large is a huge sweet spot. Using on M240 (even surprisingly sharp crops) and planning on with the M2 and M3 too. Gud Licht!
at 5:40 you complained that the lens was from a "third party manufacturer" I'd like to know what your issue is when them and why you think they are so bad?
I just picked up a mint copy of this lens on ebay for $370... im excited!

You still feel that way ?

I hope you'll create a video about how you deal with shooting with manual focus on weddings especially when things get moving. :)

Thank you! Maybe they can send me the f/1.4 version they just announced haha ;)

I totally agree! It's a perfect focal length for press photography too. Great value for the money.

Great review. Really helpful. I've been researching if I want to get the Leica 28mm f2 for this Voightlander. Thanks for reviewing it.

Congrats on a superb review and video thanks
Hi Benj, have you tried this lens on the GFX or Hasselblad?
Really wonderful lens. Only: I had it on my Bessa R4A, and it blocked half of the viewfinder...
My favorite streetlens on my Fujifilm x-t3

Stuart Weir same tip for most ultrawides, keep people away from the extreme corners.

1:30 Luckily the window wasn't as high as it looked, as he's walking back up in the next shot :)

Voigtländer is not just any third party lens, is the oldest manufacturer of lenses.
this lens , (or the new 1.4 is on my list ). What strap are you using for your camera ?
LIKE 13, hello my friend, thanks for sharing this nice upload. Stay connected and have a nice day !🌷🌷🌴👍
spicy! now I want one.
Curious as to what viewfinder you use on the M (240)

Not complaining as much as being impressed by it despite not being from Leica (their 21/1.4 is $8600 😳)
I’m
that stocking hat ... no. just. no.
