  • A review of the highly anticipated, all new GWR 1366 Class 0-6-0PT, in smart Great Western Green from Heljan.
Designed by Charles Collett, the 1366 Class was one of only GWR pannier tanks to feature outside cylinders and was development of the earlier 1361 Class. A total of 6 of 1366’s where constructed at Swindon Works in February 1934.
Due to their size and weight, the class proved very popular on Dock Side Branches, such as at Weymouth, were 3 of class spent most of their lives. All 6 of the Class passed into British Railways ownership in 1948, with members still being in active service until 1964.
This model depicts the sole surviving example of the class, 1369, which is preserved on the South Devon Railway.
Heljan have done a great job in capturing the loco of the prototype. Featuring a superb level of detail, detailed cab interior, full detailed buffer beams, sprung buffers, plus smooth and powerful running straight from the box, this model is a must for any Western Region or Preserved Era modeller!
    A special thanks to Thomas Trim for letting me borrow this stunning model, be sure to check out his channel;

    Hope you enjoy!

That was a very good surprise when you cut to the prototype actually running. It was a great little treat to the sometimes repetitive review. Well done. I like her, wish I could run anything at the moment. Rob

Thanks Rob. Glad you like the new format, much better than looking at the box I feel. Will be sure to do it from now on for future reviews, if I've seen the real machine ;) I'm sure you will at some point, for me, it's finding the time, though I think I might be following in your footsteps soon... Got a few ideas and plans.

A nice model and was tempted to get one of these many moons ago. Liking the new format regarding history. Much better than staring at the back of a box for 2 or so mins

Very nice review my friend. Been looking at purchasing another Pannier for my branch line and this one has caught my eye. The livery interests me a lot as it’s the post 1922 unlined green livery that existed until 1934 when engines and stock was transitioning from that livery to the Shirt Button livery of the mid to late 30s. This little engine would be a fine addition to my home layout and my exhibition layout as well. Great video as always and thanks for sharing!

A truly great review for a truly great loco. Although the couplings it comes with are a bit lower than normal couplings on other models, also I did notice the little mistake at the beginning when you called it a 0-6-6T instead of 0-6-0T, that was pretty funny. Great review as always Callum. Keep the faith - Callum

Really is a lovely model indeed. Hmm, will have to look into that. Ah, blast. Took 8 hours to edit as well :( Knew I would get a typo somewhere. Thanks for spotting it

Looks like a beautiful model, bet your mate is pleased with it! Shame about those rods but I guess they're not the end of the world, liked having the real footage as well.

Thanks Phil! Really is indeed. Thomas really is with her. Must say, tempted myself after this one visited. It is a bit, though a bit of paint can sort that ;) Glad you enjoyed!

Seams a decent little model! I agree with the linkage, it does spoil the look just that bit too much. Runs superb though so it makes up I guess. Thanks for sharing Cal!

Certainly not bad at all. Nothing a bit of paint can't sort though. Running was superb! Was worried at first after hearing about the faults, but she runs a gem :) Glad you enjoyed

Great review of this fantastic and incredible model mate. One day can you do a review of the heljan, Great Western 0-6-0 saddle tank and which livery are you going to choose?

Great review I like what you did with those shots whilst reading out the history. Shame it is a bit on the pricey side though. However I will still probably get one at some point.

I think Heljan should do a limited edition variant, in the modern day GWR livery that 1369 was in on its last day of service!
    That would be so cool!!

Saw these at the Engine Shed Ford yesterday (top priced) but they look lovely. I was taken with the BR black version. What got me was how small there are compared to our usual 57XX class. Very tempted when I can find one at the right price. What do you make of the little saddle tanks? they were on display as well with one in grey livery stated as being 'photographic'

Thanks Mike! They are a bit pricey, but are very nice. Must say I'm very taken by the BR Early one. The saddle tanks look lovely too. Will certainly have to look into them. Glad you enjoyed
