Hi Matt, i have just purchased one in BR lined green late crest through ebay second hand but mint in box. Can't wait to get it out on the layout, thanks for the handling advice i have heard a few horror stories about these models! Cheers, Alan.
Great video review Matt as per your usual high standard. I thought about getting a BR Green L/C version, but the build quality really puts me off. Unbelievably, the RRP for the 47xx is nearer £200 ! I think I'll hang fire and wait for the likes of Hattons to reduce these like they have done with the 02. Well done, very informative. Cheers, Mark
Hi Matt, it's been 5 years ago, when you made this video, have you been running this Loco a lot sins then? What's your opinion about it now? Reason I ask is that I just bought a second hand one, with "Great Western" written on the tender without the logo, but I still need to receive it. It looks like a decent model to me and fits well into my fleet, and I ask myself, you describing it as being flimsy, isn't that a phenomena for all loco's with super detailed ornaments? It's not the first time an expensive model arrives, and parts float around in the packaging, and I had it with most common brands. Of corse a lot has changed in the last 5years, despite the prices, fine scale detailing is becoming a standard for a lot of new releases. And one most always decide for them self, how they grade the model in the end. Anyway, your opinion was quite helpful, I wish you a Merry Christmas and all the best for the new year. regards, Danny
Well unfortunately this one has not ran for a couple of years. I just think I had a bad one. Lots of things kept falling off and a crack all the way across the front. I would love to get another one as they look and run fantastic
Hi Matt, a great looking engine of the night owl that Heljan have produced, but having had 2 Heljan GWR tank engines I have not been impressed with the DCC running. Are you going to chip or sound your night owl?
I do resent this habit of dreaming up modern nicknames for railway equipment from 70 years ago. I've never heard of the 47xx being called Night Owls. I'm quite sure they weren't when they were running and it doesn't ring true as the sort of nickname railwaymen would have used.
nice review. very pricey. will wait for the BR green version and see if any better re quality. I suspect they will start to be discounted to get rid of them like the other heljan steam locos. There diesels are fine and the motors etc seem to be of a good quality
Hi Matt Top model there I may get one one day if price is right The P2 can do 2nd too It come close to Stirling single I expect that will have nice wheels. She runs lovely by the way Keep safe ARP
I'm happy that the LNE is my chosen railway. Nigh on £200? Just been looking at my Bachmann Pep A1s and A2, and Hornby A3s, let alone the Ivatt Atlantic. Similar price range, but in another world model-wise. To my eye, the pony wheels look just as if they belong to a model from the 1970s. I've always liked the 47xxs, but this looks disappointing.
Good review Matt, although as you say delicate, it's a lovely loco shame about the price especially if one fits a decent sound to it or even just a chip for DCC, becomes a very expensive loco.
How nice Matthew tho as you said if it was not so flimsy you would give it a 9 or 10 as for the running quality on the layout I find it quite ok as I notice to shots as it pass the station twice. When you do a review and you have a parts bag I was quite surprise that the footplate was not fitted like on the other Locos that you have done in previous reviews also a spare whistle on which again is a bit strange. So hear the website for you on the 47xx GWR 4707 Night Owl which I had already put up forUK Bygone Railway facebook Group on which is www.rail-online.co.uk/p1849823/h61704DDE James Joseph JJ Dyer

I'm glad you did get one, I've been waiting for a "proper" review before picking one up. Think I'll get the shirt-button livery
it is a great model just let down a bit by the quality

Good review Matt, although as you say delicate, it's a lovely loco shame about the price especially if one fits a decent sound to it or even just a chip for DCC, becomes a very expensive loco.

Nice review! Those European locomotives are very unique!
yeah they are. thanks
good review Matt nice looking model shame about the quality..
yeah it is a shame. thank ian
Bet it still stronger than a hornby one 😅😅😅
dont know about that. this model is quite bad
That is a beautiful model - all those wheels! Shame about the build quality.
Doesn't it have a nameplate being as it's called Night Owl?
It's not named "Night Owl", that was the nickname for the whole class.
yeah was the nickname of this class. i might get Night Owl name plates made for it. think it would look good
At leased it doesent drop to bites like a hornby one 😅😅😅
Hornby models don't drop to bites.
I never had them fall to bits.
