  • Review of the Lomography instant camera that shoots Fujifilm Instax Square and Mini film, the Lomo'Instant Square Glass. I had a lot of fun with this camera although it does have some things to watch out for when shooting! Let's talk about it :)
This video is not sponsored by anyone and I purchased the Lomo'Instant Square Glass myself.

Excellent overview and excellent images! And the last bit about being patient with the camera and not getting frustrated! I find that suggestion works best with any Lomo camera.

It’s not the type of photography I like, but I’m always impressed how some really make some great art with instant. Great work!

thanks!! its pretty cool the results you can get with instant film with some of the more manual and glass lens cameras, the instant backs that go on hasselblads and mamiya cameras are also impressive :)

That's a lot of camera for one camera! And I just checked on the pricing -- not bad considering all of the flexibility and options -- where the name-brand instant cameras are all pretty much 'you get what you get.' And it has the look of the really vintage Polaroid roll-film cameras -- or like a gadget from 'Space: 1999.' Looks like you did have a lot of fun putting it through its paces!

    • @Eclectachrome

Haha definitely a space gadget! Yeah it's priced okay, I got mine in ebay so a bit cheaper, but there are a lot of creative accessories!

I bought mine direct from Lomography. The sliding lens panels opened when I opened the camera and they have remained open ever since. Just part of the "Lomo" experience. I always thought the bright square area of the viewfinder was for the close-up distance and the entire area was for the normal to infinity distance.

i love collecting vintage items, had my eyes on a Kodak Vest Pocket (100+ year old camera) online but the film developing will be a hassle. This instant camera is a literal spitting image so ill be getting one soon!

great review, but to my knowledge, the instax wide is 4x5" size (to fit in the Lomograflok back), or just slightly smaller, so way bigger than the mini/square which one would assume to be 6x4.5 in size, or the 'digital' size {33mmX 44mm} (common to the Hasselblad X2D, Fujifilm GFX, Phase One XF\XT\XC lines of cameras). I could be wrong, but this is just the sizes that come to mind.

  • @germansaez

The focus distance is not related to the front element of the lens, it's related to the focal plane (in this case, the film). Good video, thanks!.

So for close ups. A foot and a half is about 0,45m so they numbers kinda are correct.
But I kinda like how the pictures came out.

yes :) At first I thought they meant .5m from the camera lens, but its really more like from the photographer's face lol thanks!

I'm pretty sure the corner defect would be attributed to poor chemical spread. You may have a dirty spot on the roller.

Definitely one of the better instax cameras around. Better than the mint offerings. Put on a coldshoe attachment, plop on an optical viewfinder...parallax issue solved. Mine rarely gets used so selling it 😅

hey! the cauliflower thing is a problem with developer spread. sometimes it doesn't spread evenly. maybe your rollers are dirty. I dont know about the dots.

You're not the only one with the lens cover not closing, mine is not moving at all and stays permanently open. I bought a cheap lens cap for it. I also heard from someone else who had the same problem, so probably a cheap flimsy plastic mechanism.

Instant photography is really expensive. On the other hand you learn *instantly* wit hevery photo. Unlike with film cameras wherefor example you find out how the viewfinder distorted the pictures only after shooting 36 piics lol

Love the video! I was also wondering where that color variation came
From I haven’t seen it I have the white one. From my experience though in super sunny days all my photos come
Out dark so I have to +1 on my camera and your saying -1 so it makes me
Wonder if the newer cameras are different metering in some way since yours was a kickstarter model.

I've had the issue with the dark edges on the right/bottom of some pictures and the lens cover not closing on a new Lomo Square. The dark edges are from the bellows of the camera not fully unfolding. Mine still has this issue but it's improving with more use of the camera. Lomo will warranty that issue aa well the lens cover not working. Mine is closing again after breaking in the camera.
