Hey Paul, well, listening to you on this car vlog, you don't sound very happy there. Lol. I was in the USA for two months.. couldn't wait to leave and get back to the Philippines. Luckily i have an SRRV visa so it isn't a problem. You know. Dating in the USA.. its really expensive. I remember.. i couldn't afford to date. I lived pay check to paycheck in the USA. Stressed out. Hated my job. Now, back in the Philippines.. like you were. Watch Netflix til late at night. Sleep in. Go for walks, sunset, surf, beaches... life really is so much better here. If you can live a simple life.. living on $1,400 usd per month is easy.. and way better. At least my opinion. But hey.. you got out before the typhoon.. so you were kinda lucky! Good luck to you there in the Texas. Come out to San Juan if your back in the Philippines! be cool to meet you in person! Cheers, Mark

Enjoy your work and your life back here in the USA Paul! Me personally, I would NEVER trade living here for some other third world country even though I enjoy traveling and have traveled to 7 countries already. Next year, I booked a 3-week vacation for July in the Philippines even though I have already been through Kidney failure, Dialysis, and a kidney transplant. As long as my health continues to hold on, I'll take it year to year.
For those thinking the grass is GREENER on the other side, analyze your situation very carefully. My teaching career ended when I became disabled 3 years ago so I REQUIRE complete attention to my health EVERY DAY! On top of this, my house is paid off so another FACT is that I will be paying MUCH MUCH more in bills in any other country to live than here, where I ONLY pay for utilities incurred on a month-to-month basis.

Assuming you got to pay rent/mortgage to pay in both countries you can live very well off $2000 in south east Asia. Living off 2000 bucks a month in U.K. I’d be living quite a modest live style so in the states it’ll be a lot more modest I’d imagine.
Each to there own but to me the idea of living in a condo 10 minute walk from the beach is quite appealing.

The best advice my mom ever gave me was "you will get a lot farther in life with honey then with vinegar" In other words no one likes an A-hole. LOL She worked as a senior escrow officer for many years. A very stressful job, as there is always something that would come up that needed a RUSH before escrow closed. If you've ever bought a house and gone through escrow you know things don't always go smooth as silk. Buyers, sellers and agents were not always easy to deal with when it came to closing escrow. Even during a stressful escrow she would keep the HONEY flowing to get it closed.

Paul, first of all regarding people not smiling or the lack of smiling are residual affects that are by products of a few things. First of all just as in the rest of the world especially as in Europe, the people in the US are fed up with the COVID stuff and people are at each others throats over it d/t the confinement. This has really taken a mental toll on all of us. 2ndly in not wanting to delve into the politics of things, the people in this country are very much divided politically. You have just dropped on to the scene after being away for 3 years and are essentially oblivious to all of the pent up hatred that has developed over the last nearly 2 to3 years with regard to the election. The tragedy of it all is that it is still lingering in the air so as a word of caution walk lightly and do not discuss the politics here. As far as you missing P.I. those are residual affects that as you continue to work those vivid memories will slowly fade away.
As a retired person from the oil industry after 48 years the type of work we do gets in our blood and we become addicted to it. The interaction of being around of allot of very well educated people is very much gratifying. As you know inflation is high at the moment due to the bottleneck of foreign shipped goods being on ships setting in the bay in and around Los Angeles and Long Beach. There may be some deflation beginning to take affect sometime nest year. Now is not the time to buy a house so wait awhile. So just do your best to keep your head down and save your money. My wife and I have family members in Cebu City so it will be quite sometime before we return there. I have set my sights on Penang, Malaysia when it eventually opens back up.

Well here in the US an explosion of Covid cases in the rise as of right now. So people are more stressed as it is. People dont have the jobs they wanted before or not going back at their previous jobs and wanting healthy well paid working environment. Or simply not working at all. The republicans blame the unemployment benefits was the reason for people not going to work and when that ended last August until now still people are not going back to work. They simply move back in their families and staying in one roof to save on rising rent cost due to poor zoning laws. Too many people moving into cities and not enough apartments to house them. Homelessness is everywhere. But i rather be in the US right now rather whats going on in Australia. PH right now you dodge a bullet from typhoon Odette. No power right now in the hard hit islands in the Visayas.

I lived several years in SEA but came back in 2018 and bought a house in San Antonio. I now drive a school bus which covers my expenses and has great benefits including a 10 week summer break to travel where ever. I consider it the best of both worlds: personal safety, financial security and peace of mind of the States with annual travel abroad for fun. I do not want to be one of the many guys over there who have to make it work or else.

Who would want to go to Philippines right now? They are still basically shutdown, you have to wear a facemask in public, and many places still require a faceshield which is silly in that humid place. Many of the bars and nightclubs are still closed, they still have curfews in place. I have been waiting to get back to PI since March 2019 myself, but until they figure out how to live with Covid it's not a place to be. The typhoon was very limited many places were not effected by it in Philippines. My thought is omicorn will really close down Philippines for a few months soon.

Inflation issue is a bit of a fraud. We have had 15 years of very low inflation despite super low interest rates. We still are under 3% average over the last decade.

Good point, US inflation is nothing like in other countries.

@RamsnDodgersfan, inflation might be a bit of a fraud, BUT I'm still feeling it in real world terms. Rent just went up, gas is way expensive, looking for a used car, prices are way up, grocery food and restaurant food UP etc... Hopefully after the pandemic settles down so will inflation. I will say, the 5.9% increase in my SS for 2022 is about half of the real world inflation I'm personally experiencing. Maybe i'm the exception, but my expenses are running closer to 12% higher.

With the USD the defacto reserve currency, doesn't monetary inflation of the dollar get shared globally? I mean, few countries directly peg their currency to the dollar but most indirectly maintain it within a predictable range. So when the US inflates the dollar they will respond in kind to maintain status quo or else risk shocks to their own economies.

Paul, I miss your talks with Gio ... suspect that you do too. Just subscribed. From Az, but now living for two decades in Tokyo, soon to retire in RP as soon as C-19 ends. Traveled through Texas, and honestly, I could not get out of there fast enough (except for El Paso, which I found really cool, perhaps Austin). Texas is one of the last places I would live, except for perhaps the Dakotas, Iowa, and surrounding areas. Speaking honestly, if not for oil, Texas would be bankrupt just like the other Red States.
Love your perspective on life. Do the best you can. You're awesome !!

Hi Paul. I've watched your vlogs from you walking through your old Texas home till now. Never thought I'd say this, but, welcome back...smiles! I suspect after what you've experienced the last couple/few years, you've got the priceless benefit of perspective. Also, being red-pilled and retuning to the States, you know how to protect yourself from various pitfalls (both internal and external) and focus on self-improvement which seems to be the universal RP mantra. I'll also assume you're going to save and invest and live a more frugal/minimalist lifestyle, while still budgeting for fun. As you know, having a solid financial base and stream of income is a real stress-reducing plus, especially when choosing to retire. So many of my ex-coworkers were stressed (and I assume still are) from being too financially leveraged. I retired at 61 and am here in crazy California. Luckily, I live in a small city that's still relatively safe, sane and not ungodly expensive. Glad to see you're safe and doing good.

Oilfield has some seasonal jobs and they rehire people a lot. I know truckers that make big $ in the oilfields and only work 6 months a year, then go to Thailand or Philippines for 6 months. I think you gonna miss Philippines too much to be gone for years. Cheers

Paul, I think the lack of smiles at the moment in the United States is probably COVID related and then now just when things were getting better Omicron hits…So I think The US is not that happy at the moment like most of the world…..😊😊

When I got my second job I said I was going to stay there until I was no longer having fun . I retired from there 30 years later.
I am quickly changing my mind about visiting the US this year. It is too risky catching Covid and getting stuck there.
You need to change the name of your channel.

Welcome back Paul. I constantly hear about how hot and humid it is in the Philippines. I’ve always thought to myself I live in southern Louisiana. It cannot be much worse than here. What is your opinion on the difference in the heat in Texas and the heat in the Philippines?

    • @crummyjuggler5574
      @crummyjuggler5574 2 года назад

South Texas here. 3 months are hotter. 3 months about the same. 6 months are definitely cooler. I have a greater appreciation for a mild TX winter over always summer in SEA.
