Hearing the music was such a nostalgia trip for me. Eddie's diss to Luther is 98% why SSX Tricky is my favorite.
I'd say SSX3 is still my own personal favorite, but the over-the-top nature of Tricky in general makes it stand out much more. The tracks are just insane in Tricky I love em lmao

I loved both SSX 3 and Tricky, but man, the soundtrack, tracks, and characters were so unique in tricky that it will always hold a spot on my top games.

Damn this was my 2nd ever PS2 Game. I played this every single day and I still remember the day I got 100% overall. This is extremely nostalgic for me. Once again Evan, fantastic video.

It's interesting to see someone play Tricky after growing up with SSX3. I got Tricky with my PS2 and it's my favourite of all time. The sound, style, and level design in Tricky are legendary, and it's just endlessly entertaining.

Yeah I had a segment I took but it was basically me saying they’re both the “best” depending on you’re personal style. I need to play Tricky more and unlock the secrets.

I’d say gameplay is way superior in SSX3, but the concepts and music and overall vibe in Tricky is way cooler with its outrageous and almost sci fi feel.
If Tricky came out today, it would essentially be SSX GOTY Edition. It’s basically the first game, but with tweaked stuff and more content.
Well this was a nostalgia trip and a half.
I only ever played SSX 1 when I was 9 or 10 or something (honestly didn't know there were sequels.) The reprised tracks look pretty much the same in Tricky as they did in the first one.

The reason why SSXT is the GOAT when it comes to snowboard games is because it pretty much had everything you'd ever need in a snowboard game. Neat custom possibilities (for that time), great soundtrack, loads of possibilities, a looong lifespan, x number of secrets to discover and, what probably every snowboard game lacks, great physics, feeling like a king on a snowboard and a snow + ice that FEELS as realistic as it should be when shredding down the tracks! A nice bonus for the insane moves you can combo together. As a total snowboard game, this takes the crown, without a doubt. And I've played snowboard games ranging from Cool Boarders-series, 1080, all SSX-games, Steep, SW Snowvboarding, Amped, Snowboard Kids (lol) etc., and they cannot be compared to SSXT. Sure, some games contain 1 or maybe 2 fields where they can compete with SSXT, but to this day, none matches the totality and the true feels that SSXT offers. So yeah, looking objectively at the overall of SSXT, it is the greatest snowboard game there is. I will however give a shoutout to Shredders, which is a very good snowboarding game that is highly worth checking out. It feels SO good and it's great to see a genuinely GOOD snowboarding game. :)
Nah, SSX 3 is way better than Tricky. I feel that most Tricky fans who say that Tricky is better are really blinded by nostalgia.
Hey Evan, that's such a cool video and a trip down memory lane, a friend and I would compete against each other day-in day-out on SSX Tricky, man to have a fat PS2 again! Throw a multi-tap in there and you have a party! My go-to rider was Psymon with the prisoner outfit! Again such an amazing video, keep it up

Eddie was my main. He may be a freestyle snowboarder but he has a higher speed rating when maxed, allowing for bigger air for more combo super tricks.

This was my 1st ever ps2 game I got. I was 10 year old, core memories unlocked! Mac was my favourite, the silent, cool dude. Anyway, you should review SSX On Tour man!
Can't decide if I like Tricky or 3 better. Loved both the open world feel of 3 and the over the top courses and the personalities of Tricky.
SSX Tricky and SSX3 is peak 2000s. Due to the fact that they embraces the era so perfectly they eventually became a timeless classics

I recently finally bought it.
I originally played SSX 3 and still have it since I was a kid.
The races are great, but the improvements of SSX 3 is unmatched.
I've barely played it though, so I need more time to give it a better chance.
This is probably my most played game on gamecube behind melee and Deadly Alliance, and my first ssx game. I absolutely loved it. The replay value was NUTS through upgrading and unlocking everything. Also learning the shortcuts for every map.
Coming from someone who got all the Onyx Showoff medals on RetroAchievements for Tricky it's literally just practice, and knowing how many tricks you can fit into a jump. Playing Mac helps a lot too as he has the highest Jump stat, and great Trick stat. He also just has great Ubers. With a solid mix of high scoring ones, and easier to land ones you can get some really good scores with him.
An anecdote I have is grinding for Gold on Mesablanca, and now I can do it by the end of the first third of the map.
The hardest Showoff is easily Aloha Ice Jam though, you have barely any room for big tricks. (The Onyx for AIJ is 400k points, and it took me a solid 7-10 hrs to do)

ssx3 was the first game we had when we got a gamecube, but we didnt have a memory card for a while. i remember finally beating one but then having to turn it off. i still have that copy.
It’s wild that not having a memory was a common thing back then. It makes the first levels that much more nostalgic to play

It's not just the soundtrack... it was the audio engineering of the fade outs based on jump height and the length of the song based on the track you were running. It was an odd way of DJing the music based on how your run was going...
Yep I gotcha, that’s what I loved about ssx 3 as well. It’s one of the best features of any game, I wish others found a way to implement it 🤙

I played this with my uncle when I was little. Absolutely awesome memories, loved this game.
As much as I love the third for its total package being so excellent across the...um...range of factors, (I'm a recovering dad joke addict. I couldn't go for the obvious) Tricky (and the beta version of Tricky that was the PS2 launch title) had one flavorful feature absent from all that followed it.
With apologies to DJ Atomika, it just isn't SSX without Rahzel demanding that I "call mah Mama in the room and show her how good I am!"

I've only played it briefly once or twice in McDonald's as a kid, to later owning SSX 3 on GameCube like 1-2 years later as a teen, so I don't know which is better.
Heck, I might buy it one day to see for myself.
I'm 29 today and am still hoping the SSX trilogy gets remastered one day, or at least SSX 3. Or at the very least ported to the PS5, since it's backwards compatible for Xbox.

This was the first ever video game and the ONLY video game I've ever played. I think I was 40 something yrs old, working in a group home and one of my clients loved playing it but needed a partner. In a span of a year, I got so good I was winning most of the races. I've never played another video game since but I occasionally miss being Brody and kicking ass on the snow. Did they ever come up with more or was Tricky the last one.?
good game, but there's no way it beats SSX3. Actually I prefer the original over this as well, I thought the original had better designed courses, but lacks the beloved uber tricks. Another great video, your sense of humor is cheese galore dude I love it

Ugh. Tricky obviously had the better soundtrack (especially since EA tried to synergize their "DJ Atomica" personality into SSX3), the better tracks (that weren't restrained due to having to share the same mountain), and the better overall style. "Less is more" si the appropriate term for Tricky vs 3.
I happen to be one the open world customization people haha, but I totally agree 🤝 It’s just awesome that a series was able to make back to back games that are so loved by everyone that played 🏂

I always go as Eddie. He's my man. Funky-A$$ fella with lot of style and fun to play and master the Uber moves and do lot of combos with them.
My favorite uber tricks:
- The Worm (both are)
- Hand in Hand (freestyle)
- Coffin Roll (Alpine) and
- Near Miss (BX)
