Memphis got a lot of players to pay they have a deep roster (they can't retain/keep everyone). They won't want to lose him for nothing.

I think in games like this mavs should feed more balls to klay, and what i have seen is when someone is hot during the game they stop feeding them more shots.
It’s not just Klay. Naji was hot in the 1st quarter and then Kidd benched him for most of the game until the 4th. His rotations and coaching is really odd.
Funny enough I care less about this loss than the last one. I knew going into these games that best case was getting a split. After the choked the last game away I knew this one would be a loss. I didn't like how they lost, but it doesn't change anything about how I view the team. They NEED to beat the Pelicans though. ZIon back or not, playing better basketball or not, losing to the tanking Pelicans is unacceptable. If we drop that game then I will start to lose hope for the season cause if we can't beat them then the chances that we'll even be competing for a playin spot once Luka comes back drops dramatically.
As frustrating as it is to lose in that way, I do appreciate the strategic positioning that Dallas is implementing here. Any team that finishes as the 4 or 5 seed will have the privilege of playing okc in the second round (good luck). The ideal scenario for the Mavs is to finish as the 6 or 7 seed so they can avoid playing okc until the conference finals while also maximizing the value of their draft pick this year. The worse the Mavs’ record is, the higher the probability that their first round pick will produce an nba caliber rotation player. (A pick in the high teens would be great). This team has already proven that they’re comfortable playing playoff games on the road. So it’s ok to lose regular season games as long as you’re looking at the bigger picture.

I want Luka to return when he is completely healthy....unfortunately his body has sent him signals the last two-3 years. He has played by far too many games starting when he was 13. I don't want to have another Kawhi Situation here at the Mavs. And actually Luka is just too good to waste his career. If he is out till the playoffs start, I am fine with that. Even if that means that the Mavs have to go through the playins or miss the playoffs.
Can we talk about how atrocious Maxi has been? He legit doesn’t even look to shoot anymore. Weakest pump fake into a drive ever and never knows what to do with it. His two things he’s supposed to be good at (3s and switch-ability on defense) he can’t do anymore. Frustrating to have him out there especially when the team isn’t playing too hard and PJ isn’t making his shots

Gafford works the best when he can destroy the second unit big. This means that Lively starts and Gafford comes off the bench. I'm not sure we have had one game this year where Gafford was good as a starter and we all expect for Lively to miss few games. This where the concern is coming from. Also getting killed by DeAndre Jordan is pretty bad look. Cooking Zach Edeys and Jay Huffs does not erase that.

I think in games like this mavs should feed more balls to klay, and what i have seen is when someone is hot during the game they stop feeding them more shots.
It’s not just Klay. Naji was hot in the 1st quarter and then Kidd benched him for most of the game until the 4th. His rotations and coaching is really odd.

Funny enough I care less about this loss than the last one. I knew going into these games that best case was getting a split. After the choked the last game away I knew this one would be a loss. I didn't like how they lost, but it doesn't change anything about how I view the team. They NEED to beat the Pelicans though. ZIon back or not, playing better basketball or not, losing to the tanking Pelicans is unacceptable. If we drop that game then I will start to lose hope for the season cause if we can't beat them then the chances that we'll even be competing for a playin spot once Luka comes back drops dramatically.

As frustrating as it is to lose in that way, I do appreciate the strategic positioning that Dallas is implementing here. Any team that finishes as the 4 or 5 seed will have the privilege of playing okc in the second round (good luck). The ideal scenario for the Mavs is to finish as the 6 or 7 seed so they can avoid playing okc until the conference finals while also maximizing the value of their draft pick this year. The worse the Mavs’ record is, the higher the probability that their first round pick will produce an nba caliber rotation player. (A pick in the high teens would be great). This team has already proven that they’re comfortable playing playoff games on the road. So it’s ok to lose regular season games as long as you’re looking at the bigger picture.

This was basically Mavs without Luka, Kyrie and Lively against a good team. Plus, Murray went Luka out there, no rocket science as to why they lost so badly.
About motivation/effort, it may have to do with yet another important guy going down with injury. That must take a toll on everyone. Let's see how they handle it after the shock.
