kenny since starting this podcast your vocabulary has gotten really good and super professional, idk if youre working on it actively but it makes the production feel so awesome to watch.
KB - as you put on weight, hopefully you're successful, make sure to work on your legs. They've been used to dealing with a certain weight for a while. Putting an extra 20 pounds on them with every step, stair, etc is a lot. It'll mess up the knees without you even knowing until it's too late.
It’s true, I put on about 15-20kg after high school and during Covid finished (I was skinny af before) and going back to playing basketball after Covid my knees were constantly in pain
As a Thunder fan it felt like playing with house money and not stressful at all since Caruso and Chet were hurt. Cavs offense reminds me of OKC last year but they have 2 dominant bigs. Very nice to see
Thanks for the Pacers mention. Pacers don't get enough (or any???) attention when they playing good, but when they bad everyone somehow is talking about it?? It's wild to me. They're doing GREAT WORK in that organisation and it will bear fruit sometime soon!
Small market tax. Pistons are the same. Everyone were talking about them when they were bad last year and yet nobody talk about how good they are this year. Same thing with the grizzlies.
Loving the Cade vouch, He's learning how to lead, while also controlling the floor. And JB is proving his ability to create a new culture and defensive identity!
Cade had the worst spacing metrics out of any player in the entire league because of how bad all of the players around him were last season. The advanced numbers showed he would break out and he did once his teammates weren't complete liabilities.
Don't know what happened between Mike Brown and Keon but it seems coaches often get themselves in trouble (Monty Williams/Jaden Ivey, for example) by stubbornly refusing to play someone even when damn near everyone else knows the player and team deserve it. Weird to me.
56:44 interesting question for sure. I'm also a die-hard Bulls fan but my backup teams are Charlotte because I live there and San Antonio in the West. I've always liked their FO and those Manu/Parker/Duncan days
Imagine asking a question about the NBPA, and flexing that you know all the members of it and then basically being told they’re pretty irrelevant unless you’re a player lol
i’m 5’7 and i was 115 at 20 i’m 160 now at age 23 , i just snack a lot and worked out . I’ve seen milk helps a lot as well as creatine since it helps store water in your muscles
Thanks for covering the Kings and actually knowing what ur talking about. This Kings team have been walking the ball up all season until DC took over. No one wants to say it, but it seems like they've been trying to adjust to DBo instead of the other way around. Trying to figure how Fox n DBo can coexist has killed the role players' ability to catch a flow, which relyed heavily on Sabonis. They need to go back to Sabonis option 1A, Fox option 1B, DBo in specific situations.
That 5 Out Double Header Question is great for fantasy, personally I would love to see a week break with All-Star Week, where the televised games are G-League games!
Hey I was wondering your thoughts on Devin Carter? I believe he’s only played in two or three games but from actually being at his first ever nba game I feel like he has a lot of potential. His defense is already next level, especially on this kings team, and though his shot selection and form is a little odd, I think that just comes with time
You know that double header idea might be better than you think. I've heard certain players say that they'd prefer more back-to-backs if they got longer breaks in between, so maybe they'd have the same reaction to this
OKC really just needs a defensive scheme for good teams - they worry a lot about inside scoring (I think mainly because, as you pointed out, they’re small) and anytime a backcourt player drives to the basket, they play help defense and get torched because of it - to beat teams like the Cavs, Mavs, or Celtics in a 7-game series, they gotta get uncomfortable and try something else. Otherwise, those matchups are just going to be the same as it was with OKC last year: which team can shoot more efficiently and *effectively* than the other.
I don't know if it would be a topic of interest to you, but I am a graphic design major in college right now and I focus on sports. I have been very passionate about the design of an organization's logo, jerseys, etc... . Would you have time to talk about a few teams who should redesign their logo or even their entire franchise? Teams that come to mind are the Nets and Pistons, I would push for the Raptors to make the current VC raptors logo their permanent one. You have a very large platform and I've heard you mention these topics before so maybe by talking about them there could be more of a push for these changes.
I just want to comment on the name of your pod the first team that I know of that really were celebrated as a small ball team were the phoenix Suns in the Nash era especially the year where they didn't have Amar'e (and they faced off against Kobe's Lakers that year who a bunch of people (even Shaq today) at the time were saying kobe was the MVP, and the series went to 7 games) anyways, Shawn Marion often would play PF (whether during the year Amar'e was injured or not) and in the west in those days, you had PFs like Tim Duncan at 7 feet, KG at pretty much 7 feet, C-Webb, Elton Brand, Pau Gasol, Carlos Boozer, Karl Malone (I think he was retired the year Amar'e was out, but the year before I think he was still around), oh I forgot Dirk another 7 footer, Zach Rand anyways, Shawn Marion is 6'7 and then they'd play Amar'e at center, or when they didn't have them, things got even more interesting because and then they had guys that I feel were underrated or their value was low Kurt Thomas and Tim Thomas, it kind of seemed like they weren't wanted (before they were traded to PHX) and from what I remember they played good/great basketball from what I saw, especially Tim Thomas Tim Thomas was considered a 6'10 SF Kurt Thomas is listed as a 6'9 center, and he wasn't the biggest guy (like compared to Ben Wallace) I thought they had Steven Hunter, but apparently they didn't anyways, so at center during the season they had Kurt Thomas, Boris Diaw, and Tim Thomas that's a pretty small center lineup (and if Tim Thomas is a guy who plays SF, he's not used to his role being center) so you've got Marion giving up 4-5 inches when he faces Tim Duncan, and their center is undersized and I really liked Boris Diaw's play that year, his passing is really good, and again he's undersized considering he's needed to play center, when his best fit probably was to match up against SFs whoever they played at SF had decent size (whether it be Boris Diaw, or James Jones, both being 6'8), just whoever they played at PF or C in the west was often going to be considered small and then they had Leandro Barbosa, who was a spark plug, it felt like he was the fastest guy who could run from one end of the court to the other and I really liked Raja Bell anyways, in 04-05 or 05-06, with the culture of what worked in the west, going small ball definitely seemed like a against the grain play and the 05-06 squad seemed like the squad that wasn't supposed to work, that got 54 wins, that beat the supposed MVP's Lakers (who again people to this day say Kobe should've been MVP, they say both of Nash's MVPs should've been Kobes)
oh, and I'm not saying it's the first small ball team just the first I saw, and it was in an era where teams in the west just seemed to have a lot of size generally (especially the Spurs, Shaq's Lakers, Yao Ming's Rockets, Dallas with Dirk at PF, KG at PF, Pau Gasol at PF, etc) like I think Charles Barkley played PF and people say he's 6'4, 6'5 I dunno how big the centers were that Chuck played beside
Ellis is a great shooter by the numbers, but his shots are most wide open. Wide, wide open. His shot takes a bit more time than the elite shooters. We love Ellis in Sac, but right now, he doesn't seem capable of being a volume scorer.
The Kings are more than 17 points better per 100 possessions when Keon Ellis is on the court. The Kings are more than 5 points better when Fox is not on the court.
As a Kings fan, MB not playing Ellis was a big enough reason to be fired. It makes me wonder what Sasha Vezenkov could have been had he gotten an actual chance.
About that 5 Out segment. I kinda understand the warriors not wanting to give up first round picks into like 2030 and beyond because Steph Curry most likely won't be in the league by then. However that still gives you however many years worth of assets to go out there and build a competitive roster around the guy that made your organisation the highest earning team in basketball. They currently have all of their own picks going forward, a couple very tradeable contracts and young guys that realistically aren't contributing to a championship team rn. Teams like the bulls being perfectly ok being mid because they'll still sell tickets is one thing, but when you do have all these assets, AND a top 10ish player of all time on your roster that is just plain greed. They basically kicked Klay out the door with his suitcase like a cartoon character too, which is also nothing else but greed. The warriors current FO and ownership either need to go, or let Steph go somewhere that will treat him like the winning player he is and not the main event circus attraction.
Cavs fan here so obviously super biased. But the cavs thunder game was so good because it felt like chess. Kenny talked about it but both teams adapting to each other and not just having one specific tactic, i.e. just chuck up threes was just amazing to watch. Even when the Thunder were having good stretches nothing they were doing felt cheap besides SGA doing his foul baiting shenanigans. Which is especially annoying bc watching him play he clearly doesn't need to play like that to be amazing. This game actually felt like two teams trying their absolute hardest to outwit each other which is exactly what the NBA has been lacking in recent years.
Why would he be tired lol for anything he’s locked in rn and focused on winning cause this pistons team is definitely capable this year. Last year it was probably not far fetched to say he was tired though😭
People really putting so much weight in this OKC loss like they don’t have Caruso and Chet on the bench is insane to me. I can’t wait for Chet to come back and remind everyone what’s good
kenny since starting this podcast your vocabulary has gotten really good and super professional, idk if youre working on it actively but it makes the production feel so awesome to watch.
I know he says he would love to coach, but live color commentary would be so good. Would love to hear him on a live broadcast of a game.
kenny doing color commentary for a windy city game would be so sick!!

the first team that I know of that really were celebrated as a small ball team were the phoenix Suns in the Nash era
especially the year where they didn't have Amar'e (and they faced off against Kobe's Lakers that year who a bunch of people (even Shaq today) at the time were saying kobe was the MVP, and the series went to 7 games)
anyways, Shawn Marion often would play PF (whether during the year Amar'e was injured or not)

anyways, Shawn Marion is 6'7
and then they'd play Amar'e at center, or when they didn't have them, things got even more interesting because
and then they had guys that I feel were underrated or their value was low
Kurt Thomas and Tim Thomas, it kind of seemed like they weren't wanted (before they were traded to PHX)
and from what I remember they played good/great basketball from what I saw, especially Tim Thomas
Tim Thomas was considered a 6'10 SF
Kurt Thomas is listed as a 6'9 center, and he wasn't the biggest guy (like compared to Ben Wallace)
I thought they had Steven Hunter, but apparently they didn't
anyways, so at center during the season they had Kurt Thomas, Boris Diaw, and Tim Thomas
that's a pretty small center lineup (and if Tim Thomas is a guy who plays SF, he's not used to his role being center)
so you've got Marion giving up 4-5 inches when he faces Tim Duncan, and their center is undersized
and I really liked Boris Diaw's play that year, his passing is really good, and again he's undersized considering he's needed to play center, when his best fit probably was to match up against SFs
whoever they played at SF had decent size (whether it be Boris Diaw, or James Jones, both being 6'8), just whoever they played at PF or C in the west was often going to be considered small
and then they had Leandro Barbosa, who was a spark plug, it felt like he was the fastest guy who could run from one end of the court to the other
and I really liked Raja Bell
anyways, in 04-05 or 05-06, with the culture of what worked in the west, going small ball definitely seemed like a against the grain play
and the 05-06 squad seemed like the squad that wasn't supposed to work, that got 54 wins, that beat the supposed MVP's Lakers (who again people to this day say Kobe should've been MVP, they say both of Nash's MVPs should've been Kobes)

The bad thing about okc is everytime we play teams there role players who suck all year long always turn into a prime version of an all time great😂
