      looks like a normal fire response there, Squad, truck, engine, battalion chief bare minimum seen but probably another two engines and ladder also responding- a basic first alarm in any big city

      If you think this is a lot you should see FDNY 😂

    • @CPR12345
      @CPR12345 Год назад +2

      Well New York City is bigger than Chicago, the FDNY has a bigger budget therefore more apparatus to send to an incident, so they should. (But, Chicago should actually be a bigger Fire Department than they are, in my opinion. As the population of the city grew, the fire department got smaller. They have had around 30 engine companies (more companies if you include trucks, squads, etc.) disbanded since the 1950’s, until the present. The most recent being engine 61 in 2005. (Truck 12 was then reorganized after that.)

    • @rcor87
      @rcor87 Год назад +1

      @@CPR12345 you are incorrect. The population of Chicago actually has shrunk, and continues to shrink, since the 1950s. Chicago in its hey day topped out around 3.6 million people, and has lost about 1 million since then, down to 2.6 million today. Therefore, the fire dept has shrunk and taken companies out of service with the population decrease over time. Less fires today too. Now whether or not it should be bigger than it actually is, I don't know.

      @@AHomelessDorito Had there been an actual structure involved, instead of just a "trash fire", there would have been a lot more equipment, easily double what we saw here. Then add another truck and battalion chief set aside as "RIT" (rapid intervention team) for collapses or maydays, and a command van to manage communications. Chicago doesn't play around where fires are concerned, and they always have enough personnel to rotate through and rehab (like FDNY)

    Nice video, I've driven by this place lots of time. This facility is a real anomaly, technically within the city limits of Chicago although it's 20+ miles away from the city center. It's surrounded on 3 sides by Elk Grove Village. The CFD/CPD had to drive through 3 or 4 different towns to respond to this fire.

    • @AHomelessDorito
      @AHomelessDorito Год назад +8

      There are CPD stations near ohare. The city carved out the surrounding airport property to be part of the city so the city can take all the airport revenue lol so there’s lots of city presence all the way out here

    • @whowey100
      @whowey100 Год назад +6

      @@AHomelessDorito The CFD station is on O'hare property. You can see it as you exit the lower level ground transportation center, just past the parking garage. The apparatus is yellow rather than traditional black over red, due to federal requirement for ARFF. You are correct that the city annexed alot of land surrounding Ohare to get all the revenue and the city limits follow the CTA tracks back to the city proper.

    Second time watching this video, and for those commenting on the response,it´s better to have a nice(big) response and not need it, an apparatus can always be turned and placed back in service, if not needed. The second apparatus/pumper-tanker didn´t block traffic for long,So! My question though is what are #9 & # 10´s H2O tank size and pump (GPM) capacity, does anyone know? Thanks!!

    I had no idea that ARFF could even go outside the airport boundary, that is unless there is a plane crash or a big incident that requires a ton of foam. How many staffed units does O'Hare have anyway? Did Chicago move any units to the airport itself? Any mutual-aid from Elk Grove? Very impressive video when it comes to response.

    • @madtrucker0983

      Same here. They must have a ton of units also. Those are big fire trucks also. Sporting tandem axles.

    • @rcor87
      @rcor87 Год назад +1

      CFD has four fire houses at O'Hare operating 3 engines, 1 TL, 1 squad, 3 ambulances, 1 battalion chief, probably 10 or so crash trucks, and a bunch of other specialized equipment. I'm not sure exactly what you mean when you ask did Chicago move any units to the airport itself. Chicago doesn't use mutual aid from surrounding depts unless the incident goes to a 5-11 with multiple specials, then they will activate MABAS to surrounding depts for change of quarters to send equipment to the depleted Chicago fire houses (though this unique geogrpahical area of the city may be different). However, squad 7 often is on a MABAS card for some of the surrounding towns and will respond to their fires.
